Hey there! It's been a while since I've posted.. I'm gonna try to change this.I'm a sports fan and I think writing from a fan's point of view is fun at times... not being a writer, it's good exercise. So Len Barrie, part owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning has been giving an ultimatum by Gary Bettman to come up with 10 Million dollars to prove he can still be an...

RDS reports that Stefan Legein is back
RDS is reporting that Stefan Legein is coming "out of retirement".The 20 year old is expected to report to Columbus in January and play in Syracuse in the AHL.When hearing of his retirement, I was floored... but I guess sometimes the drive and total commitment it takes to become a pro athlete must really be intense.Glad to see that Stefan is back in hockey. We'll see his talents...

Big changes for the Raptors - Sam is out
Wow. After a slow start to the season Bryan Colangelo has made a decision to shake up his team.Sam Mitchell has been let go.Not following the Raps quite as much as the past years (that is changing as I write this) I didn't see this coming.Mitchell coached the raps through some hard times and also through some recent good times.I loved the way Mitchell handled the media.Turning the page in

Kyle Wellwood gets waived in Vancouver
The Vancouver Canucks had picked up Wellwood off waivers.... and now they put him on waivers.I remember hearing the reports of Wellwood not being in the best of shape coming into camp, which surprised me as I thought that he would try to jolt his career seeing that he's only got a one year deal and being in a new organisation like the Canucks.(Sportsnet article)

Think Joe Elliot of Def Leppard dissed the NHL?
I watched the opening night ceremonies last week and I did see most of the televised performance by Def Leppard.I remember the moment that Joe Elliot puts the cup upside down.... and just kinda shrugged his shoulders after someone put it right side up... he said something like "what do we know, we're soccer boys".Maybe getting soccer boys to play was the wrong move...

Kevin Bieksa injury not serious
Gotta feel for Kevin Bieksa wanting to turn the page on last season's injury bug and in the first couple of games of the season finds himself on the IR...Bieksa should be an important part of the Canucks lineup this year. Going back to the 2006-2007 season where he had a pretty strong year, last year was certainly disappointing for Bieksa and most of the defensive core of the...

New NHL season and hello again!
Well, I'm almost ashamed that it's taken this long for me to write a blog post. I've never really let this blog go... well ok, I kinda did... but I figured I would (at some point) start writting again. So, basically all of my summer I had it in the back of my mind that I simply couldn't wait to get this new NHL season underway. As training camps approached I was stuck...

DiPietro in the house??
Well... after loosing the first 3 games, the NY Islanders won. And their "big deal" guy wasn't in the house.DiPietro was injured. One has to wonder.... such long term deals carry such a high risk at different levels.I'm finding myself hopeful for the NY Islanders on this one...

Habs make some key errors
The game just finished.Buffalo VS Montreal.I was looking forward to the game, 2 fast skating teams.... promise for some heavy shootin' hockey. At the start of the game, I was impressed with Montreal's level of play... Buffalo didn't get a shot on goal for roughly the first 10 minutes. Montreal had a f...

Lot's of NHL movement
HuetI was very happy to see Huet stay in Montreal.A 2 year deal. Of course, Huet played his heart out last season, working his way into the number 1 spot. I wonder what they will do with Aebisher, who is also quite skilled... they could even bring in young Price for a few games.(Article on the Habs ...

Canes, the Cup and the NHL
Although I was really rooting for the Edmonton Oilers this playoff season.... it was a tremedous playoff...The level of hockey was very entertaining. I, for one love the new rules. The hockey was faster on average, the higher skilled players got to play more and there were still some great checking.I...

NHL Finals
I watched the first game of the NHL finals.I knew it should be intense, and I think it was. Chris Neil and Brad May looked like they wanted to dance. And there were some pretty hard hits.I was however under the impression that the wait in between games was a bit too long. I found in some cases that t...

Hurricanes hit the Oilers
In what seemed like a game where the Oilers were gonna stomp on Carolina, the Hurricanes certainly stepped up in the 3rd period...Up to the 3rd, I found that Edmonton was really outworking the Canes... they were hitting.I particularly liked what Kelley Hrudy said in the pre-game.... that since Edmont...

Sam Mitchell - NBA Coach of the year!
I was very happy to hear the news that Sam Mitchell has been awarded the Red Auerbach Trophy...The raptors started the season slow.... all kinds of rumours circled around, but the team really gelled.I think Mitchell is a great coach.
