Canucks Need More Goals

from Mark Spector of Sportsnet, There are no secrets why the Vancouver Canucks are behind the San Jose Sharks 2-0 in this series, why their season hangs by a thread heading into the toughest building in the National Hockey League this season. It’s production — or a lack thereof. It is, first and foremost, the waning Sedin twins. It’s Alex Burrows. Whatever...

Pressure On The Penguins

from CBC Sports, With the series even, the first playoff game in six years will be played at Nassau Coliseum on Sunday. The pressure will most certainly be on the Penguins come Sunday. Unanimous favorites to emerge from the conference, the Penguins have lost three consecutive series and will feel significant pressure should they fall in Game 3. Troubling to the Penguins...

Best Non-Playoff Team

It is kind of a backhanded compliment to be the best team that missed the playoffs (it's a lot like being the prettiest fat girl in school).  Nevertheless as I watch the playoffs there are a few teams that look like they have been lucky to make the playoffs.  They managed to fluke their way in after 48 games, but I doubt they would make playoffs in a full length 82 game season...

Kelly Hrudey And His Youngest Daughter Address Her Mental Illness

from Joe O'Connor of the National Post, Kelly Hrudey used to catch his youngest daughter blinking, blinking one eye, then the other, and then both, and then blinking some more. She was about 11 years old at the time and the former NHL goaltender and affable Hockey Night in Canada host did not think too much about Kaitlin’s blinking since, when he would ask her about it...

Shanahan Made The Right Call On The Suspension Of Gryba

from Damien Cox of the Toronto Star, Having dumped on Brendan Shanahan for going on two years now, I feel compelled to congratulate him when he gets one right. And I think he nailed it on Eric Gryba. Well, let me back off that just a bit, since I believe all NHL suspensions are, in general, far too short, which is why there are so many of them. Give Andrew Ference 10...

Kings Have Yet To Find A Way To Win

from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail, So now, here we are in 2013 and, two games in, it has been a complete reversal of fortune for all the Kings men. All the games that they found a way to win last year, they found a way to lose against the Blues. In the opener, a turnover by Quick led to a shorthanded unassisted goal by the Blues’ Alex Steen and 1-0 series lead...

Who Will Replace DeKeyser?

from Chuck Pleiness of Red Wings Front, Babcock said before the playoffs that signing DeKeyser was the reason the Wings reached the playoffs for a 22nd consecutive season. “He’s a kid, don’t get me wrong, but he’s a good player, so that’s a big blow for our team,” Babcock said. “But there are other guys that have been working hard, Lash, Colaiacovo have been...

Video- Dustin Brown On The Hunt

Lots of buzz in Canada about the Gryba hit, but little on Dustin Brown's targeting of Jaden Schwartz. The intent on that play looked brutal. — Jason Kay (@JKTHN) May 3, 2013

Dominating Mule

from Craig Custance of ESPN (paid subscription), On his second goal, he took a pass from Zetterberg behind Hiller and drove to the net untouched, stuffing it past the Ducks goalie. Franzen beat a stationary Winnik to the front of the net, proving how dangerous he can be in that spot if Ducks defenders don't put a body on him. And that's the challenge moving forward...

Discussing Bob Cole

from Sean Fitz-Gerald of the National Post, On some nights, it seems to slice into the very fabric of the country. Canadians, watching the same broadcast, hear two very different voices. Some hear a man lost, wandering two steps behind the play, in a game that has passed him by. Others evangelize the voice of a legend. And now, in the age of Twitter, it is possible to watch...

LA Kings Looking For Their Offense

from Helene Elliott of the LA Times, Quick was good enough. He stopped 23 shots and, before Jackman's effort, yielded only a goal that caromed off Patrik Berglund's foot at 3:44 of the third period. The Kings' offense, though, wasn't nearly adequate. The Kings have scored two goals on Brian Elliott in two games: one after Quick was pulled for an extra skater...

Rangers Not Good Enough Against The Caps

from Larry Brooks of the New York Post, The Rangers are all wearing t-shirts with the message “Stay Positive” across their chests, and for the most part that’s what they were following last night’s 3-1 defeat to the Capitals in Game 1 of the first-round series. There was much talk about having done “a lot of good things,” and that wasn’t entirely off-base regarding...

Ducks/Wings Series Could Be Classic

from Craig Custance of ESPN, Even as Detroit opened a three-goal lead, Boudreau and the Ducks kept pushing. “They were always talking about, Get one and we can get two,” Boudreau said. “Get one and we can get two.” By the time Bobby Ryan tied the game late in the third period, it felt like an inevitability. The push from the Ducks got stronger and stronger as...
