Nicklas Lidstrom on ‘teasers’’

Via RedWingsFeed, former Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom's in Gothenburg, Sweden today to take part in a photo shoot for a clothing line (seriously), and Goteborgs-Tidingen's Johan Skold asked Lidstrom about the role of a "retstickor"--literally translated, a "teaser," or what we might call "instigators" or "shift disturbers"--in...

Fredo’s Back Soon, And This Time For Good

How long before we see this?  "Getting Carlo back is just like kicking some tires at the deadline and coming away with a special player, a special man, really. I like our team." Ken Holland's big offseason splash is on the verge of returning, essentially guaranteeing the Wings one period of excellence before he gets hurt again. Defenceman Carlo Colaiacovo also...

Keep Moving Forward

When it comes to the New York Rangers as a franchise, we have seen many consistent themes each and every season. One of those themes has to do with streaking. Going into Thursday night's game against the Florida Panthers, the Blueshirts have won two straight games in beating the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night and the New Jersey Devils last night. With the two victories...

Buying Time In The Faceoff Circle

from Jesse Spector of The Sporting News, “On every icing, the winger goes in (for the draw) and gets thrown out on purpose,” Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. “You see that everywhere you go. He’s getting thrown out so the center can take the draw and it buys five more seconds (after a team is not allowed to make a line change following an icing). That should be a rule...

Red Wings will bring prospect Calle Jarnkrok to Detroit to visit, not play

Red Wings prospect Calle Jarnkrok's Swedish team, Brynas IF, won't repeat as Swedish Eliteserien champions. They were ingloriously swept from the playoffs by Skelleftea AIK on Monday, leaving Jarnkrok's future up in the air. The Wings signed him a year ago, but chose to loan him to Brynas for the Eliteserien season, and the Swedish-language newspapers have assumed that...

Talking With Bobby Orr

from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail, “I’ll tell you a true story that happened the other day,” said Orr, chuckling as he gets rolling. “We had a mixed member-guest-couples event at our golf course and I’m walking down the corridor to the men’s locker room and there was a board set up there, listing all the teams. A couple of ladies were standing there and...

All Chuck Fletcher

from Dan Rosen of NHL.com, A lot of general managers will say they look at the Detroit Red Wings as the model for consistency as a franchise. As a younger GM with experience working in the League for several teams, does that play with you as well and do you want to model your team after the Red Wings? "I think so, but it's a pretty tough path to duplicate their...

Therrien Not Happy With Subban’s High-Sticking Penalty

from Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette, P.K. Subban says there’s no worse feeling than sitting in the penalty box when the opposition scores the winning goal. That was the situation Tuesday night in overtime when Subban had a front-row seat as Steve Ott banged home a rebound to give the Buffalo Sabres a 3-2 win over the Canadiens at the Bell Centre. Subban’s reaction...

Bobby Orr 65 Years Young Today

And I was only 14 years old in 1970 when this documentary came out on Bobby Orr at the age of 22. There is no doubt about it, the greatest defenseman I have seen and would be in my top 3 all-time hockey players if he would have been able to play a little longer. Orr changed the game and his skating ability was like no other.

GDT - Game 30: Red Wings (14-10-5) host Wild (16-10-2) 7:30

The Western Conference standings are tighter than Adrian Dantley's wallet.  The Wings 33 pts have them holding onto the 7th spot at the moment, 3 pts out of 4th place, and only 3 pts in front of 10th place CBJ.  Jobu was apparently in charge of Tuesday's practice;  Eaves is questionable after being hit in the mellon by a puck, Datsyuk has the flu, and Hank has the runs...

Pick Six: Out of their Minds

In an abbreviated season, there were bound to be even more players than normal that would be performing well beyond their preseason projections. Some of these players may be available in your league, although this is more of an assessment of whether these players will continue a pace that is simply out of their minds, as well as a comparison with other noteworthy players. Just like...

Worst +/- Rating

Brian Campbell of the Florida Panthers has the worst +/- rating in the NHL.  He has a -18 rating.  He is also the ice time player in the league this season.  He has played almost 25 more minutes than Ilya Kovalchuk, who is second in ice time in the league.  These two numbers go together when you consider that Florida is the last place team in the NHL with the worst +/- rating...

Bouillon back?

As per RDS during the intermission this evening, the Canadiens are currently working on an extension for defenceman Francis Bouillon. This may come as a surprise to many, as Boullon is seen as a depth player on the Habs, but he's a fan favourite, a hard worker, and never complains about his role. I suspect Bergevin is approaching this with the understanding Bouillon may be...

It’s The Time Of Season To Talk Trades

The latest from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, • The New York Rangers have been on the lookout for a top-four, right-handed defenseman and a source told me Tuesday that the Blueshirts have interest in veteran Dan Boyle from the Sharks. There’s an obvious connection there, with Rangers head coach John Tortorella having Boyle in Tampa when both won the Stanley Cup in 2004. ...

The Leafs Trade Deadline Plan

from Jeff Simmons of Sportsnet, With five losses in a row, many have wondered whether the Leafs will be buyers or sellers at the April 3 trade deadline. $10M In Malkin’s Future

from Chris Johnston of Sportsnet, ... this summer will probably see a NHL player sign a deal that averages at least $10 million per season for the first time in roughly a decade. What’s Happened With The Canucks?

from Mark Spector of Sportsnet, Sometimes you just get “The Feeling” about a team. That perhaps, this is just not its time. Or, when you are Alain Vigneault, that this might be the end of your time.
