Fot the Last Time, Suh did not Throw a Punch

I was pretty steamed after the pathetically one-sided commentary from Dan Dierdorf during last night’s broadcast and the complete falsehood of ESPN’s highlights regarding Suh’s role in a scuffle last night.  Now PFT has chimed in and I was expecting a moment of sanity, but instead Mike Florio has regrettably fumbled his opportunity to end this foolishness and...

Thoughts on Lions 34-10 Victory

There are a lot of newsworthy items left in the wake of the Lions’ 34-10 victory last night.  The Lions’ starters playing extremely well, Matthew Stafford taking his first hit, the latest media driven smear of Ndamukong Suh and the search for a running game to name a few. I’ll start with the Suh situation.  Last night Logan Mankins grabbed Lawrence Jackson by...

Jahvid Best who missed two days of practice following a concussion received last Friday in the win at Cleveland was ruled out of the Lions game against the Patriots according to Paula Pasche of the Oakland Press. It’s a precautionary measure for Best who had concussion issues in college.

Lions Rookie Titus Young Making Progress

The Lions have been proof positive of one of the many reasons draft grades in April make no sense, injuries.  The Lions were praised as having a draft to be reckoned with, but with two weeks until the season kicks off the Lions prized rookie class consists of 5th rounder Doug Hogue and 7th rounder Johnny Culbreath on the field. 1st round pick Nick Fairley is still recovering from...

Lions Putting DeAndre Levy at Outside Linebacker

The Free Press reports that the Lions are pushing DeAndre Levy to OLB. Gunther Cunningham may be prone to hyperbole, but the Lions defensive coordinator wasn’t exaggerating Wednesday when he explained in one word what this year’s linebacking corps can do that last year’s couldn’t: Everything. “I’m really happy with the linebacker situation and...

Lions Monday Night Game Sells Out in 12 Minutes

Everybody knew that Detroit has been starving for a nationally televised game (other than the traditional Thanksgiving Day game) and with individual game tickets going up for sale this morning, there is tangible proof of that hunger. The tickets for the Lions’ Monday Night Football game on October 10th sold out in twelve minutes per Ticketmaster.com. Clearly, Detroit is ready...

2nd Preseason Game Quick Glance

Here are a few quick thoughts after the Lions 30-28 preseason win over the Browns.  I am still reviewing the game for more in depth analysis.  I blame NFL Network for re-airing Eagles vs Steelers 4 times before showing Lions vs Browns for the first time. I kept hearing the Lions were losing when all their starters left the game late in the second quarter.  That was false, the...

Lions Look to Keep Momentum Going in Cleveland

The Lions and Browns each hope to build off impressive 2011 preseason debuts when the two teams square off Friday at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The Browns got the Pat Shurmur era off to a very good start, with the club outperforming the defending world champion Packers in its first outing under its new head coach. Cleveland came through with a 27-17 home victory over the Packers last...

Suh via Twitter: Fined $20,000 for Hit on Dalton

Ndamukong Suh is not a dirty player, he’s an aggressive one, but apparently the NFL doesn’t differentiate.  Suh tweeted today that he received a $20,000 fine for his hit on Dalton, which I believe is a little excessive. PFT calls Suh a “repeat offender” because of the fines he’s faced for hits on Jake Delhomme and Jay Cutler.  The Delhomme fine was...

Lions at Low End of NFL for Salary Cap Space

NBC’s Pro Football Talk website listed current salary cap space for all 32 NFL teams today. They range from the Chiefs at $33 million to the Rams at a scarce $270,000. Just a few notches up from the bottom sit the Detroit Lions. According to the report, they currently have $1.1 million in cap space. Just before the free agency feeding frenzy began a few weeks ago, ESPN’s John...

Suh Says He Hits Hard But Isn’t a Dirty Player

Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is convinced he is not a dirty player. “There’s always a fine line of dirtiness and a fine line of aggressiveness,” he told Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press Sunday. “I know to this point that in my own heart that I haven’t crossed that line by any means.” Fellow defensive tackle Corey Williams emphatizes with Suh. “It...

CB Wright Hurts Leg in Practice

Lions cornerback Eric Wright has injured his right leg. Wright took himself out of practice Monday morning and had the inside of his right leg stretched. He went back in, then took himself out a few plays later. The projected starter later had his right groin wrapped with ice. Chris Houston, the other starting cornerback, is also injured. Aaron Berry and Brandon McDonald have been...

Detroit Lions Preseason Week 1 Stock Report

In a typical NFL season, the preseason is met with the same enthusiasm as commercials with most fans.  It’s necessary to sit through until the good stuff comes back on.  However, to the more observant and hardcore fans the preseason is the only opportunity to see the roster take shape before the regular season starts. That undrafted rookie that you’ve heard is turning...

Suh To Likley Face a Heavy Fine for Hitting Bengals QB Dalton

Last year, Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh nearly beheaded then Browns quarterback Jake Delhomme in a preseason game. In Friday’s exhibition opener, Suh grabbed Bengals’ quarterback Andy Dalton by the head and threw him to the ground. Suh was given a 15-yard roughing-the-passer penalty. Look for Commissioner Roger Goodell to fine Suh for the incident, and maybe...

Schwartz Wants More Discipline from Defensive Line

Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press reports the Lions’ defense proved impressive Friday night, intimidating and a little undisciplined while racking up three personal fouls in the first half of a 34-3 win over Cincinnati. Ndamukong Suh tore off quarterback Andy Dalton’s helmet while slamming him to the ground, and linebacker Stephen Tulloch made a late hit that...

Cris Carter: WRONG

Since word came out this morning that former Viking receiver and current ESPN “analyst” Cris Carter excluded Calvin Johnson from his top 6 receivers in the league list, there has been quite a bit of backlash.  There is a good reason for the backlash, Cris Carter is wrong. I know it’s his own personal list and he’s entitled to his opinion, but since his opinion contains a...

Lions First Preseason Test Begins vs Bengals

From: Sports Network The Cincinnati Bengals viewed Andy Dalton as both the present and the future at quarterback when they chose the former TCU star in the second round of this year’s draft. The rookie gets his first chance to prove his new team right in Friday’s 2011 preseason opener against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. With Carson Palmer at home hoping for a trade...

WR Titus Young Hampered by Leg Injury

Rookie wide receiver Titus Young still hasn’t put in a full day at practice since training camp began due to a leg injury. Young tried some limited drills Tuesday, but he was back in the trainer’s room for Wednesday’s practice. At this point, we’re not sure Young is even a lock to open the year as Detroit’s third receiver. He’s got weeks to stay ahead of Rashied Davis...

OT Tony Ugoh Thinking of Retiring

According to Tom Kowalski of MLive.com, Lions offensive tackle Tony Ugoh was absent from training camp Wednesday because he is considering retiring. Ugoh is not expected to make the Lions final roster. He has a boatload of talent but has been considered an underachiever since the Colts drafted him with the 42nd pick in the 2007 draft. Indy gave up on him last September and the...

Lions Bring in Two Backs to Fill Leshoure’s Void

The Lions have added free agent running backs Mike Bell and Jerome Harrison in an effort to replace the void created by Mikel Leshoure’s injury.  Both players have had a moderate amount of success in the recent past, but ended up buried on depth charts last season. Harrison has an exceptional run to close out the 2009 season racking up 550+ yards and five touchdowns over the...

Mikel LeShoure is Out for the Year

Tim Twentyman reported via Twitter that Mikel LeShoure tore his Achilles and will miss the 2011 season.  Per Coach Schwartz, LeShoure is expected to have surgery tomorrow. LeShoure’s injury is a huge blow to the Lions’ offense as they now need to fill the short yardage and four minute offense void.  No word on if the Lions plan to sign somebody,  swing a trade or replace...

Twitter Abuzz Regarding Mikel LeShoure Injury

Twitter just blew up with reports of a potentially serious lower leg injury to Lions rookie running back Mikel LeShoure.  The injury appears to be in the ankle/Achilles. LeShoure was carted off the field and joins a growing list of Lions with injury concerns, including first round pick Nick Fairley.
