Brad Stuart’s hit on Justin Williams was fantastic (Video)
Boom. Shoulder to shoulder. Didn’t launch. Kept arms and elbows in. As good a hockey play as you’ll see. “DISCIPLINE US FOR THAT!” — Doug Wilson, somewhere drunk probably.

Sharks fined $100k for GM comments
The San Jose Sharks were fined the huge sum of $100,000 for GM Doug Wilson's comments on the Raffi Torres suspension. What did he say?
Chris Young comes off DL; A’s DFA Daric Barton
The good news: Chris Young is a step closer to returning to the lineup, as the A’s reinstated the outfielder from the DL on Saturday. The bad news (well, for one person): the A’s had to once again designate first baseman Daric Barton for assignment to make room for Young.
In eight games since returning to the A’s on May 8, Barton, what’s new, hit a woeful .143/.217/.286...
Martin Havlat back for Sharks in Game 3
Martin Havlat has been missing from action since he went down with an undisclosed lower-body injury in Game 1 of the first-round series against the Canucks. But Havlat is expected to be back in the Sharks lineup in Game 3 Saturday against the Kings.
And not a moment too soon.
In an 0-2 hole, the Sharks need whatever help they can get on their lines, with Adam Burish out for the...
Brett Anderson out for 4 weeks with stress fracture in right foot
Turns out Brett Anderson’s injury status is far worse than believed. The A’s opening day starter, already nursing a sprained right ankle, will be out for at least the next four weeks with what the team called stress fracture in his right foot. Officially it’s a navicular stress fracture and will require rest and wearing a walking boot.

Ex-Raiders RB Mike Goodson arrested on drug and weapons charges
You remember Mike Goodson, don’t you? He was with the Raiders last season — his only season in Oakland — and saw time in the Raiders backfield behind Darren McFadden. It was a brief stay, but he had a decent year, averaging 6.3 yards per carry when he wasn’t hurt—good enough to get $7 million ($1.925 million guaranteed) from the Jets in free agency in March.
Well, his...
Sharks GM Doug Wilson ‘strongly disagrees’ with Raffi Torres suspension in statement
On Thursday the NHL suspended Sharks winger Raffi Torres for the remainder of San Jose’s second round series against the Kings for a hit on Jarret Stoll in Game 1. We concluded the punishment was a bit of an overreaction by the NHL, a penalty that seemed to discipline the player more for his past rather than the offense in question. If you thought you were mad, imagine how Sharks...
Warriors returned to court to thank fans after Game 6 loss (Video)
The Warriors had just lost Game 6 to the Spurs. They were eliminated from the playoffs. The season was over. The players, crestfallen, headed to the locker room, walking off the court for the final time this season. But taking a page out of the script of “Little Big League,” they, led by fearless leader Stephen Curry, returned to the floor, where a large chunk of fans remained...
Warriors season comes to an end on but greater things remain on horizon
And so the big red curtain closes on another Warriors season. Or maybe it was a big yellow curtain. At any rate, the Warriors’ stirring 2012-2013 campaign and an equally thrilling postseason run came to an end as the Spurs took Game 6, 94-82, and the series, 4-2, Thursday night in Oakland.
On a night the Spurs didn’t get much from Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili (combined 4-of...
Raffi Torres suspended for remainder of 2nd round vs. Kings
It took long enough, but after a Thursday morning hearing with Raffi Torres in New York, the NHL officially announced that the Sharks forward is suspended for the remainder of the second round for his much-scrutinized hit on Jarret Stoll in Game 1.
Stoll did not return to the game and is a scratch for Game 2. And Torres certainly has “one of those” reputations. But was malice...
Rolando McClain explains his decision to retire
Rolando McClain surprised everybody on Wednesday when he decided to retire from football. The announcement confused many, as it came with no explanation. But on Thursday McClain answered those questions in a statement he released. The primary reason from stepping away? Trying to get his life back in order. So, that’s commendable.
Here’s the entire statement, per Vic Tafur:

Raiders sign outspoken punter Chris Kluwe
The Raiders have reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with punter Chris Kluwe.
Kluwe, who was released by the Vikings on May 6, will compete with Marquette King to replace Shane Lechler, who’s since moved on to the Texans. Kluwe has gained notoriety in the last half year for being a staunch ansd vocal supporter of gay rights.
Here’s what he told former Ravens linebacker and...
Raiders sign Josh Cribbs
After a contract offer had been made last week, the Raiders have reportedly signed wide receiver/ace return specialist/Betty White’s friend Josh Cribbs. The deal is reportedly for one year.
Cribbs will give the Raiders a veteran option in an unproved corps of receivers as well as enhance the return game. The Raiders finished last in average punt return yardage in 2012. Cribbs has...
Raffi Torres to meet with NHL after hit on Jarret Stoll
Was that hit by Raffi Torres on Jarret Stoll in the Tuesday’s Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals illegal? Granted, Torres’ reputation as a dirty player precedes him, and Stoll did not return to the ice after the blow. Torres has made strides to repair his image and change the way he plays since being hit with a 25-game suspension for a devastating hit on Marion Hossa...

In a strange and surprising move, former Raiders linebacker and recurring police blotter subject Rolando McClain has retired from the NFL at age 23.
From NFL.com:
“Rolando let me know that he plans to retire from the NFL,” Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said Wednesday. “We have placed him on the Reserve/Retired list.”
As with all the other headline grabbing incidents...

Oh, look: Melky Cabrera finally got his Giants World Series ring
Ex-Giants outfielder and budding web developer Melky Cabrera finally received his 2012 World Series ring (pictured above) in a private meeting with Bruce Bochy prior to the Giants’ tilt with Cabrera’s new team, the Blue Jays, in Toronto on Tuesday. Just to jog your memory: after a hilarious and disgraceful steroid suspension, Cabrera played in as many playoffs games last year...
Stephen Curry’s ankle ‘ready to go’ for Game 5
Stephen Curry ankle watch day 5,963 brings good news for the Warriors.
The breakout star of these playoffs, Curry told reporters on Tuesday that the condition of his sprained ankle is much improved from when he was clearly limited by it throughout Game 4 on Sunday.
“Ready to go tonight,” Curry said. “It feels a whole lot better than it did before Game 4, so that’s all I...
Report: Raiders offer contract to Charles Woodson
Interesting, nostalgic-laden news coming from ESPN’s Josina Anderson on Tuesday regarding the Raiders:
Charles Woodson’s agent Carl Poston also told me the #Raiders just sent him an initial offer for Woodson as well.
— Josina Anderson (@JosinaAnderson) May 14, 2013
Not surprisingly, the Raiders haven’t commented officially as to whether there’s any validity to the report...
Harrison Barnes named to All-Rookie First Team
All the tanking the Warriors did towards the end of last season? As ugly as it was, it turns out it’s proven to be worth it so far. Going into tank mode, of course, was to keep the seventh overall pick from falling into the hands of the Jazz. The Warriors succeeded, albeit in shady fashion, and they used the pick to draft Harrison Barnes.
A bunch of nasty dunks during the regular...
Eric Reid’s impact for 49ers
This sponsored post is courtesy of FanDuel.com
The San Francisco 49ers made a playoff run last season thanks in large part to their highly-ranked defense. With most of those players returning, there were not a lot of spots open for newcomers. However, Eric Reid, the team’s first round draft pick out of LSU, is expecting to earn a starting role pretty much right from the beginning...
Surgery possible for Josh Reddick’s wrist?
Josh Reddick has been on the 15-day DL since last Wednesday. And while he’s hopeful his right wrist will be ready by the time he’s first eligible to return to the active roster, the outfielder isn’t totally ruling out surgery as a potential outcome.
Per Steve Corkran:
“I’m not going to say, ‘OK, I need surgery,’ but I’m also not going to rule that out,” Reddick...
