The Mets designated Claudio Vargas for assignment after last night disgraceful 11-0 loss to the lowly Seattle Mariners. Carlos Muniz was recalled to take his spot on the roster. I don't think this move had much to do with his disappointing performance in last night's game as...

"It's not the heat. It's the humility." - Yogi Berra
Those words must be going through Willie Randolph's head these days. His team is 30-33, 7 1/2 games out of first place and fading fast. The team has been struggling all year but gave a glimmer of hope with...

The Mets completed the final fine tuning of the roster yesterday to cut down to 25 men for today’s opening game of the 2008 regular season.
Orlando Hernandez, who went back to his trademark high leg kick in Saturday’s preseason finale, was put on the 15-day DL so he can...

Tonight's lineup was posted a little while ago. As noted earlier Brian Schneider is back from an injury.
Perhaps more notable is that Carlos Delgado is batting in the sixth slot in the order. Delgado has been horrific lately. I'm curious if this is in response to his .208 average...

The Mets have signed Claudio Vargas to a minor league deal. Vargas will report to extended spring training in Port St. Lucie before going to AAA New Orleans.
Given the state of the Mets rotation this is a good move. Depending on how long it takes Pedro Martinez to return and Orlando...
Pedro’s Pop = 4-6 Weeks

The pop in Pedro Martinez’s left hamstring turned out to be a strain that will keep the Mets number two starter on the disabled list for 4 to 6 weeks. That answers the question of making room for Nelson Figueroa who was recalled from AAA yesterday.
Figueroa, who pitched an inning...

That pop you heard last night may be more or less than what it sounded like. It came from the hamstring of Pedro Martinez and it will take an MRI to determine the extent of the damage. Martinez felt the pop in the fourth inning with the Mets down 4-3 after he allowed [...]

Johan Santana’s first start as a Met lived up to all the hype as the Mets scored a 7-2 win over the Florida Marlins on opening day. The stud offseason pickup who will make more money this season than the whole Marlins team pitched 7 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits while [...]

The Mets won 8-2 last night. They beat the Phillies. Forgive me for not being more enthusiastic but Philadelphia was without their spark plug, Jimmy Rollins and committed 4 errors in the game which led to 6 unearned runs. This wasn't so much the Mets winning as it was the Phillies losing. [...]

Can somebody please tell me why Scott Schoeneweis is still pitching for the Mets? He blew another game yesterday. It was his first loss of the year but since he's been with the team he has gone 0-3 with a 5.04 ERA. The obvious answer is that he's under contract. But [...]

It was a sad day for the Mets offense yesterday. The closest they came to scoring through much of the game was when Johan Santana reached third base after hitting a double. They would end up scoring one run in the ninth inning of the 3-1 loss but Santana’s two bagger would be [...]

Yesterday the Mets signed Duaner Sánchez to a 1 year contract worth $850,000. This is a potentially big signing if Sánchez can rebound from injuries that have kept him on the shelf the last year and a half.
The Mets also signed Juan Padilla to a minor league deal.
