Record Crowd Attends 2012 First Pitch Dinner

Baseball Begins Practice for 2012 Season
The defending Big Ten Champion Michigan State Spartan baseball team conducted its first official practice of the 2012 season Friday afternoon inside the Duffy Daugherty Football Building. MSU will practice for three weeks before taking on No. 11 St. John's on Opening Day Friday, Feb. 17 in Dunedin, Fla., for the Big Ten/Big East Challenge.

Torsten Boss Named Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American
Michigan State junior third baseman Torsten Boss has been named a third-team preseason Louisville Slugger All-American as selected by Collegiate Baseball. Boss, an All-Big Ten and All-Mideast Region first-team selection in 2011, helped lead the Spartans to a share of the Big Ten regular-season championship after hitting .370 with seven homers and 59 RBIs.

Kirk Gibson Named National League Manager of the Year
Former Michigan State All-American Kirk Gibson has been named the 2011 National League Manager of the Year, the Baseball Writers' Association of America announced Wednesday. In his first full season as a manager, Gibson led the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 94-68 record and an NL West title.

Second Annual `Clash at Comerica' Set for May 15, 2012
Through a partnership with the Detroit Tigers, the Central Michigan baseball program has announced it will host the second annual "Clash at Comerica" in Detroit versus Michigan State. Spartan Baseball Holiday Camp Information
The Spartan baseball program has announced dates and times for its upcoming holiday camps. On Saturday, Dec. 3, MSU will host an advanced hitting clinic from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Indoor Practice Facility. On Sunday, Dec. 4, there will be three camps available: kids camp (ages 8-13) from 9-11 a.m.; hitting camp from 12-2:30 p.m.; and pitching camp from 3-5 p.m. | Registration Form

Four Spartans Honored by American Baseball Coaches Association
Four Spartans have been honored by the American Baseball Coaches Association for their outstanding seasons in 2011. Jeff Holm was selected as an ABCA/Rawlings Third-Team All-American and was also a First-Team All-Mideast Region pick. Eckerle Receives Big Ten Conference Medal of Honor, Chester Brewer Leadership Award

Jeff Holm Named Third-Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball
Michigan State senior first baseman Jeff Holm has been named to the Louisville Slugger All-America Third Team, Collegiate Baseball newspaper announced on Thursday. Holm, the 2011 Big Ten Player of the Year, led the conference in RBIs with 61 and ranked second in batting average (.376) and homers (9).
