The Fab Five Screening (Notes, Photos, Etc.)
A big thanks to my friends at Moe’s/Underground Printing. This afternoon I joined a couple hundred folks to catch a pre-screening of ESPN’s Fab Five documentary. Good news/bad news/good news: it was scheduled right during the Ohio State game today. (Jalen arranged for a TV during the reception so folks could catch the last few minutes of the game—no one really bothered...

Broom! (Goes the Dynamite) Michigan 70, MSU 63
What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon, don’t you think? Bullets:
It has been amazing to witness the young guys, especially Morgan, Hardaway & Morris, maturing and improving since the start of the season. It’s tangible progress before our eyes so hats off to the entire coaching staff and of course the team.
I actually give some credit...

eBay Watch: Bo Enjoys Beating Spartans (1974)
I love this wire photo of Bo that popped up on eBay recently. A photog caught Schembechler in final few minutes of the 1974 game against Michigan State.
Bo is hunched down and he appears to crank out a slight grin as he gazes up at the stadium clock. Love it:
Let’s hope we get a similar grin from Coach Beilein at Crisler this afternoon.

eBay Watch: Gerald Ford Snaps! (1974)
Check out this shot of President Ford at a Portland, Oregon charity event from the eBay auction this week:
It was a fundraiser held at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, and Ford donated the autographed ball and even hiked it to the winner, Mr. Ambrose Cronin, who forked over $2,700 for the righteous pigskin.
The former Michigan center is no stranger to snapping the ball...

Let Him Pass
I just returned from a nice vacation in much warmer climates. On the way home from DTW (after enduring a power outage that locked me and many others inside the airport parking structure for 45 minutes—yes, they held us hostage while they figured out how to charge us for parking given cc’s wouldn’t process) I caught the end of the excellent Minnesota hoops game on WTKA...

Mental Prep for Wednesday
You been there I’m sure. You’re out of the country, or out of TV coverage or for whatever reason, you can’t catch of feed or regular updates from an important game. You feel helpless & the bits of data you find are precious.
I could be found refreshing the final couple minutes of the Iowa game on ScoreMobile, trying to piece together what was going on...

Gearing Up for Augusta: Lion Kim Interview
From 2010-11 Michigan Men’s Golf yearbook – U-M Media Relations
I recently caught up with Michigan senior golfer Lion Kim and he sounds like he’s ready.
In about eight weeks Kim will tee it up at Augusta National against the world’s best golfers. Back in July the 21 year-old took down the field at the U.S. Amateur Public Links and took home both a magnificent silver...

The last airing (before they run Archie Griffin #4 tonight at 9am) will be today at 2:30pm today locally. You can watch the first couple minutes of the show here.
A few folks have fired over questions about the episode and I’d thought...

Viva Michigan Helmet Stickers!?
Near the end of Wojo’s extensive Q&A with Coach Hoke was this exchange:
Q. Many fans crave a return to old Michigan ways. You’ve talked about being tough in the trenches, having a pounding defense. What about the little traditions, like helmet stickers again?
A. I don’t know about the helmet stickers yet. I’m gonna get some counsel from ex-players, from coach...

It Had to Happen
Nearly three years ago to the day I submitted a mgoblog guest post talking about the 100-year Michigan football anniversary event held in 1979. Former player Willis Ward attended the celebration held at Chrysler errr, Crisler Arena. I mentioned this:
Willis Ward: The African-American end and U-M track star was Gerald Ford’s roommate for road games and a member...

Rich Rod Didn’t make it to Zihuatanejo (Cowherd audio 02-09)
Rich Rodriguez joined Colin Cowherd this afternoon and talked about a few NFL draft prospects in the Big Ten.
I pick up the audio where he’s discussing Steve Schilling (and he mentioned Perry Dorrestein). Then Cowherd asks about the final days at Michigan which he likens it to Shawshank – he tunneled through the foul crap/drama, but didn’t make it to the good stuff...

High Street Blues (‘82 Daily arrests – Part Two)
If you haven’t, take a look at the first post on the events & aftermath of the 1982 jailing of then-Michigan Daily editor Bob ‘Wojo’ Wojnowski and photographer Brian Masck in Columbus, the night before The Game that season. Bob’s 1983 opinion piece on all of this is one for the books.
You may have heard Wojo comment recall that night over the years, but I’m not...

Low Point on High Street (1982)
I’ve been digging out a few interesting old stories on the periphery of Michigan football in recent days and here’s another story I think you’ll like.
You know Bob Wojnowski of course, the long time Detroit News columnist and the Nutter Butter-gobbling co-host of the great ‘Stoney and Wojo’ radio show from 1995 to 2009.
Wojo is a Michigan grad and cut his journalistic...

Michael Taylor Wants His Cornflakes (WTKA audio)
Turns out the WTKA afternoon show on Thursday was just as exciting as the morning show. Michael Taylor dialed up Jeff DeFran and went off on a spittle-filled rant, furious about the hiring of Curt Mallory over Taylor’s preference Corwin Brown. Clip:
.
Obviously Taylor knows something about the matter and has been in touch with Brown, who Taylor says is “hurt”....

The Duck Bribe of 1960
I stubbed my toe on this interesting nugget of Michigan football history recently. It turns out that there was a foiled attempt by wiseguys to bribe an Oregon player prior to game against the Wolverines in the 1960 season opener.
The failed fixing attempt was revealed to the media after the Wolverines’ 21-0 victory over the Ducks on September 24, 1960.
Here’s...
