The University of New Mexico baseball team was recently picked to finish second in the Mountain West by Baseball America. The second-place prediction is one better than the third-place prediction the Lobos received in the 2012 Mountain West Preseason Poll last week.

Dallas, Texas --- University of New Mexico President Dr. David J. Schmidly has announced that UNM will partner with 15 other institutions for form a new intercollegiate athletic association that would begin competition in the 2013-14 academic year.

The Lobo men's soccer program has added former standout Dom Romero to its staff. Romero will replace former assistant coach and volunteer coach Chris Cartlidge, effective immediately.

It was a fitting end to a thrilling weekend for Erica Beach and her Lobos as they claimed another win, this time defeating Texas State, 5-3. New Mexico softball is off to its best start since the 1993 season when the Lobos, under head coach Susan Craig, won six straight.

The outdoors may have been cold, but inside the bubble the Lobos were on fire as they defeated South Alabama with a score of 6-1. The Lobos record improved to 6-2 winning all six matches at home.

The University of New Mexico ski team had two of its Alpine skiers pick up RMISA Skier of the Week honors. Kate Williams earned the honor for her performances at the Alaska Anchorage Invitational and Joonas Rasanen earned his honor for his display at the Seawolf Invitational.

Erica Beach's Lobos improved to 4-0 overall with two more wins over Idaho State and Northwestern on day two of the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. New Mexico began Saturday by clinching a 9-8 victory over Idaho State in the early afternoon and finished with a 13-5 five-inning rout of Northwestern later in the evening.

Even though only ten distance runners made the trip to the Husky Classic in Seattle, the University of New Mexico track and field squad made a record-breaking splash in Rain City.

After two long weeks in Alaska the University of New Mexico ski team finished out competition at the Seawolf Invitational with a solid performance from the Alpine team. The Alpine skiers helped the Lobos move up from fifth place to fourth place on the final day, thanks in part to the men having, quite possibly, their best slalom performance of the season. "I've said it hundred times. They told me all about it. You can't really understand it, unless you have actually played here. That is one of my favorite things about being here in New Mexico is the fans and certainly playing in The Pit. It gets loud and it gets us pumped up. It is a lot of fun and I was not ready for it until I got here. I'm happy I'm here."

A.J. Hardeman scored five of his nine points to kick start a 13-2 run that propelled New Mexico to a 48-38 victory over Wyoming on Saturday.

"It was a pretty good day. I got on some bigger poles that I've been getting on in practice, and was hoping to clear somewhere in the 13-[foot range]. I just picked up my pole and went and it felt pretty good."

Competing against some of the premier institutions across the nation, the University of New Mexico track and field team posted a number of the fastest, highest, and farthest performances at the Albuquerque Convention Center this Friday, including two new school records.

New Mexico's Caroline Durbin has become a defensive target for UNM's opponents and that should be the case Saturday in Laramie when the Lobos tip with the improving Wyoming Cowgirls.

Steve Alford's Lobos are a game off the Mountain West lead and a win Saturday in The Pit over the efficient Wyoming Cowboys could give UNM a share of that lead.
