Love cleared to play, now it’s “up to him”
Phil Miller, sitting in for Jerry Zgoda today, reports:
His doctors are satisfied and his coach is ready. Only one more person has to give Kevin Love the go-ahead before he returns to the Wolves’ lineup: Kevin Love.
“I could go out there and compete right now, but as far as going out and feeling good, [...]

UPDATE: Love return Friday is possible
Kurt Rambis said before tonight’s game against Memphis that there’s a chance Kevin Love could play some Friday at New Orleans, if his New York City doctor approves tomorrow an X-ray taken today in the Twin Cities.

Love eyes Saturday return
Kevin Love is getting that fractured left hand X-rayed one more time this afternoon. He said he is confident this one will show his broken bone is fully healthy and he’ll be cleared to fully practice starting tomorrow.
If he gets the OK, he said a return Friday at New Orleans is probably asking too much, [...]

Love participates in contact practice, probably still days away
Kevin Love has participated in some portions of contract practice the last two days and will be re-evaluated by doctors tomorrow or Thursday.
Kurt Rambis said conditioning will be Love’s biggest issue and didn’t indicate that a return to game action is imminent (like, this week).
“He’s doing a great job running, but the wrestling aspect of [...]

Avoiding history: Wolves end losing streak at 15 games, 106-100 at Denver
Huh?
Go figure.
The Wolves hadn’t won since opening night.
The Nuggets hadn’t lost at home since last March (17 straight victories, including 7-0 this season).
So all your previously 1-15 Wolves do is produce a 31-12 third quarter that included an opening 14-0 run and ended their 15-game losing streak one loss shy of tying the franchise record.
The [...]

Wilkins in, Hollins out with record streak at stake against Nuggets
Tonight’s lineup shuffling — Damien Wilkins in, Ryan Hollins out — at Denver isn’t necessarily the change or changes Kurt Rambis has said he is contemplating.
Rather, it was made mostly for matchup considerations: Ryan Gomes started on Kenyon Martin. Rambis felt Wilkins’ experience would give him a fighting change against Carmelo Anthony.
Didn’...

Wolves head to Denver for Sunday’s game with record in reach
Phil Miller covered practice today and filed this after the Wolves worked out at Target Center before flying to Denver for tomorrow night’s game.
Saturday was the one-month anniversary of the Wolves’ only victory, and they marked the occasion with “one of the best practices we’ve had all season,” said point guard Ramon Sessions said.
So will [...]

It’s a late one: Suns at Wolves
ESPN isn’t here for tonight’s 8:30 p.m. game against the Suns.
But a bunch of fabulously looking people are.
Tonight is giveaway night: 5,000 eyeglasses like the ones Kurt Rambis wore long ago as a player were given away before the game. Everyone from assistant coach Reggie Theus (before the game) to the Timberwolves dancers and Kevin [...]

Franchise worst 1-14 season start after 124-111 loss to Nuggets
Phil Miller covered the game tonight at Target Center. Here are his thoughts and notes from tonight’s 124-111 loss to Denver.
– Al Jefferson had 14 points and 12 rebounds on Wednesday, but it sure didn’t look like much fun. Kenyon Martin and Nene are a formidable, physical inside presence, and while Jefferson insists his 2-for-11 [...]

Now 1-13 after 91-87 loss to Clippers in L.A.
It was kind of fitting that Sean Rooks sat next to me on the baseline at Staples Center tonight.
The last time before tonight a Wolves team started a season 1-13, Rooks played on the 1994-95 team whose future was built around, ahem, J.R. Rider and Christian Laettner.
At least until a kid named Garnett arrived in [...]

Wolves-Suns bumped from ESPN, Friday’s game still 8:30 p.m.
Well, that’s what happens when you’re 1-12 with a 12-game losing streak…
The Wolves-Suns game Friday at Target Center was scheduled for an unusually late 8:30 p.m. tip as the second half of an ESPN Friday night doubleheader.
The game has been scratched from the ESPN schedule and replaced by the Oklahoma City-Milwaukee game that features Bucks [...]

Wolves lose 12th in a row, 106-78 at Portland
The first two times the Wolves and Blazers played in this 13-day stretch, the Blazers won by 23 points each time.
This time, for the third time since Nov. 8, they lost by 28 after leading briefly by a bucket with four minutes gone in the third quarter.
This is progress?
Kurt Rambis called it such after the [...]

Franchise record in sight: Wolves at Blazers
The Wolves are in the second quarter tonight — trailing by as many as 11 early, of course — at Portland, trying to avoid their 12th consecutive loss after their season-opening victory over still winless New Jersey.
Two more losses — tonight and Monday at the L.A. Clippers — will tie the Wolves for the franchise’s [...]

Love’s game return still probably three weeks away
Phil Miller’s got practice for me today because I’m already in Portland for the start of a quick two-game Western trip that starts tomorrow against the Blazers. Here’s what he reports about that X-ray Kevin Love had on his fractured left hand:
There’s been good healing progress. He’s probably two weeks away from participating in a [...]

Rockets at Wolves tonight
Al Jefferson’s back in the starting lineup and they’re just about set to tip it off at Target Center tonight, with the Wolves trying to end against Houston that 10-game losing streak.
Ryan Hollins is starting again at either center or power forward, whatever you want to designate him and designate Al. That leaves a Jefferson, [...]

Did a piece for the Web site and tomorrow’s Sports section on the mystery that is the triangle offense.

Al’s back
Sorry, I thought I’d posted this late this afternoon, but apparently it disappeared into the ether…
Al Jefferson was back at practice this afternoon, returning to practice shortly after it began this afternoon because his flight back from Florida was delayed.
He had been there since Thursday, arriving to see his ill grandmother just 30 minutes after [...]

Streak hits 10 straight, Wolves lose 97-87 to Grizzlies
OK, so the Wolves are three more losses away from tying the franchise’s worst start to a season, 1-13 in the 1994-95 season that led to Kevin Garnett being drafted fifth overall the next summer.
The Wolves, you might remember, were 1-10 at this time two seasons ago, in that first month playing without Kevin Garnett [...]

From David Kahn
David Kahn has written another letter to Wolves followers, this time with his team off to a 1-9 start that includes a nine-game losing streak.
Here it is…
Dear Timberwolves Fans and Supporters:
I am writing this to you while on the plane from Minneapolis to Memphis, on Friday night following our loss to Dallas. We are 1-9, [...]

Wolves lose ninth straight, 89-77 to Mavs
From Phil Miller, who covered tonight’s game at Target Center:
It’s hard for Kurt Rambis to get too angry, not when his players are so intent upon following his instructions. But one sequence in Friday’s chippy 89-77 loss to Dallas illustrated how much his team still has to learn.
Like, when to ignore him.
With roughly five minutes [...]

Jawai, Hollins in tonight against Mavs without Big Al
The Wolves are starting Nathan Jawai and Ryan Hollins — call ‘em power forward and center or vice versa, whatever you prefer — tonight with Al Jefferson gone for the next two games.
Jefferson is in Florida, where his grandmother — Annie Bell Randolph, 83 — died yesterday in Fort Lauderdale.
Jefferson is expected to rejoin the [...]

Must-see TV?: Ricky Rubio tomorrow on NBA TV
The Wolves are set to tip off against the Dallas Mavericks in a couple hours without either Al Jefferson or Kevin Love in the lineup.
If you can’t bear to watch what might happen in that one, you can check out Ricky Rubio playing for his Regal Barcelona team tomorrow at noon on NBA TV’s European [...]

Al Jefferson out at least two games
Jerry Zgoda is off and Phil Miller, the newest guy on our Wolves coverage team, reports that Al Jefferson will not play in games Friday night against Dallas at Target Center and Saturday in Memphis due to a family member’s illness in Florida. It’s expected he’ll return to the team early next week.
Jefferson, who [...]

We’ve been here before: Wolves 1-8 after 107-84 loss to Blazers
After all that change, the Wolves are right back where they were this time last season when Randy Wittman was coach, David Kahn was home in Portland contemplating his future and Kurt Rambis was fairly reveling in the start of what would be another Lakers’ championship season:
1-8, with an eight-game losing streak.
This time, Rambis inserted [...]
