Looking Ahead To September

Let’s forget for a moment that the lockout is brand new and the presiding judge has yet to rule on anything being thrown at him.  But let’s also realize that the lockout could potentially keep players out of training facilities for the entire summer months and into the start of training camp.  No mini-camps, no rookie camps, no passing out the playbooks, no nothing...

So What’s Next?

The NFL announced last night that it formally issued a “lockout” leaving the players, for now, without jobs and shutting down NFL business all together except for the NFL Draft in April. The league says the lockout was a forced measure that was preempted by the NFLPA’s decertification earlier in the day.  In other words, take your pick as to who you want to believe...

What The League Was Willing To Give Up

The NFLPA, I’m personally convinced, wanted nothing short of litigation.  Why?  Simple, the NFL wanted to take back some of the money that they gave up years ago in the midnight ending CBA.  The NFLPA reps grandstanded and when push came to shove, all they could spew was “Show me your books”.  Even when the final minutes ticked off the mediation week deadline...

QBs & College Statistics – Do They matter?

My last article on PhinPhantic.com took a look at six 2nd tier QBs in this year’s NFL Draft.  I mainly compared their college statistics, but added some of my own analysis.  The article received quite a few comments prompting an interesting discussion.  First thing, I want to thank all who joined the discussion.  Second, I wanted to note that the main criticism of the analysis...

To The Players Of The NFL

To the players of the NFL, So the NFL owners wouldn’t give in and show you their books huh?  That sucks.  I mean, don’t feel bad, my boss wouldn’t open up their books and show me either.  In fact, they simply stared at me like I was crazy.  Imagine that.  Of course, I can’t sue them for that.  So now the NFL will likely try and lock all of you players...

CBA Talks End, Union Decertifies

The NFLPA filed for decertification today at 5:00 pm thus ending the two weeks of mediated talks and labor negotiations.  The NFLPA issued an ultimatum to the owners at 4:00 that they would agree to a bargaining extension if the league agreed to provide open books for the last 10 years.  Apparently, the NFL declined. The next move is simple, the now defunct NFLPA will move out...

NFLPA Certified Agent Gary Wichard Dies

If the name Gary Wichard sound familiar to you, it should.  Wichard was the representing agent for Jason Taylor when he left Miami for the New York Jets after Wichard took issue with Bill Parcells and presumably Jeff Ireland for trying to deal with Taylor one on one as opposed to going through JT’s agent.  Wichard has been confirmed to have died today. The reasons surrounding...

CBA Negotiations Falling Apart

Most of the NFL fans are about done with CBA negotiations, talk of 18 game schedules, 9 billion dollar revenue pots, and just about anything else that is going on between the NFL and NFLPA.  I have to say, that I’m getting tired of finding there is only that to cover when I should be writing about the Dolphins new free agent additions.  After a week of mediated negotiations...

Pat White: Two Time Loser

O.k. don’t crucify me, the title was simply instituted to irritate the Pat White supporters out there.  I don’t know the kid anymore than I know Dan Marino. For all I know he could be one helluva philanthropist.  Of course with the money he took from Miami he should be.  Anyways, I digress, the former 2nd round bust for the Miami Dolphins, a player who should go down...

WTF – OJ Signs With The Redskins

I know I am mad late in catching up with what has been going on for the past few weeks (I have been placed on the Phinphantic IR list), but the first thing I wanted to do was express my frustration once again on the lack of motivation of going after O.J. OJ is now paired with one of the best athletes in the NFL; LaRon Landry.  OJ does have huge shoes to fill replacing the best Free...

Drafting a QB in the 2011 NFL Draft

Drafting a QB in the 2011 NFL Draft seems to be one of the most controversial position selections.  Most “experts” believe that the top two QBs in the draft are Blaine Gabbert (Missouri) and Cam Newton (Auburn).  The “experts” believe that these two QBs will likely not be available when the Dolphins pick at #15.  That is fine with me because I believe that the Dolphins...

Hurry Up Already!

Another day has passed, and NFL fans across the planet still have no idea when a new CBA will be signed and implemented.  All we have learned the past two weeks is that the Owners and Players Union are meeting, and trying to get a deal done.  We have no idea what the discussions are about, we have no idea how far apart the sides are on any of the issues, all we know is they are...

Can The Dolphins Coach A Rookie QB?

The Miami Dolphins have been searching for a star signal caller for more than I frankly care to remember.  Many fans and media alike believe that the Dolphins search for a QB should start and end this off-season.  While Chad Henne still holds the reigns as the incumbent starter, a rookie and/or a veteran will pay dividends to the development of Henne who has not had to “compete”...

Top 10 Prospects: Wide Receiver

Over the next couple of weeks and leading up to the draft, I will be taking a look at each position, if the Dolphins have a need to upgrade that position in the draft, and who are the top 10 prospects going in. Remember, this is only one man’s opinion. This is the third of such posts and today we will look at the wide receiver position.

Forward Progress

(by Remy Stark not #1vikingsfan – ops?) Ladies and gentlemen let us try and forget about the impending doom that is the 2011 lockout and pretend everything is fine. I for one do not wish to cry in front of others so this is the only way I can get by. There WILL be a 2011 season! With the recent re-signing of Incognito I decided it would be a good idea to try and look at where...

The Draft: BPA Vs. Need

The 2010 NFL season is over and despite the lack of a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) as of this writing, the 2011 NFL draft will go on as scheduled on April 28-30th at the Radio City Hall, N.Y. Make no mistake, this event is the building block of all NFL teams. Owners of these teams send all of their brain trusts to the college combine to try and determine who, of the hundreds...

1 Week Extension On Labor Deal

This will likely be the last extension before a lockout or the union files to decertify.  Unofficially, the NFLPA Executive Committee must formally approve the extension, the two sides have agreed to extend the deadline to March 11th at 5:00 pm (likely central time). Various reports say that both sides have given a little in their stances in an effort to make headway in what appeared...

24 Hour Extension Now Down To 8 & Phins News

The NFL and the NFLPA agreed to a 24 hour extension shortly after 5:30 eastern time.  That extension is now down to about 8 hours...and counting. There is as much divide outside of the labor discussions as apparently between the two actually negotiating.  Whispers say that they are close to an agreement while other whispers hint at nothing short of a lockout or decertified union...
