My talk with Bruce Allen
I had a telephone interview with Bruce Allen in advance of the combine. He didn’t have a whole lot of time but I still got some good insight into what the Redskins are up to.
The transcript of the conversation is after the jump. My article based on it is here:

Restricted Redskins
The Washington Redskins will have seven players who would have been unrestricted free agents but for changes in the system in the last year of the collective bargaining agreement. Now that players need six years in the league rather than four to be eligible for unfettered free agency QB Jason Campbell, S Reed Doughty, DT [...]

Gibbs, Snyder, Hogs speak about Grimm
Daniel M. Snyder
“Our Redskins fans have always appreciated the Hogs. This is a long deserved honor and we are proud to have Russ as a member of the Hall of Fame. Hopefully Russ is the first of the Hogs to be inducted in Canton representing one of the greatest offensive lines in NFL history.”

Russ Grimm, a guard for the Washington Redskins from 1981-1991, has been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
He was a guard on the 1980’s NFL Team of the Decade. Of the 22 offensive and defensive starters on that team, only four are not in the Hall of Fame and one of those four, [...]

Advice to Portis–Shutup
So Clinton Portis “definitely expects” to be back with the Washington Redskins in 2010.
“I know what I’m capable of doing, and I can’t wait to get back on the field next year to prove to people that I’m far from washed up or done,” Portis said on ESPN 2 last week.

Shanahan, not Vinny, made decision on 3-4
We haven’t heard much from Jim Haslett yet. There has been no introductory press conference for any of the coordinators or assistants, no media availability at all. But Comcast SportsNet has the audio clip above and, although it’s less than a minute, it’s interesting.
In regards to the switch from the 4-3 defense to a 3-4 [...]

Redskins 01.27.96—Fame catches up to Gibbs
It wasn’t a matter of if, it was a matter of when.
Joe Gibbs was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame on this date in 1996. There is no need to retell the record here, readers of this space are well familiar with it. To me, the accomplishment that set him apart from other [...]

Redskins 01.25.66—Otto Graham hired
The Redskins hire a former NFL quarterback who has some quirky ideas and no experience as an NFL coach. Sound familiar?
We’re not talking about Jim Zorn here, we’re talking about Otto Graham, who had a better career as a quarterback compared to Zorn but he was about as successful as a coach.
Here is the account [...]

Redskins add three coaches
The Redskins have hired three assistant coaches.
