How many points will Virginia allow ACC teams to score?

Virginia's performance against Harvard on Sunday was quite impressive.  UVA allowed just 8 points and one made field goal in the first half and just 27 points for the game.  According to DBR, Harvard starters made just 1 field goal for the entire game.  Of course, this game wasn't an anomaly as Virginia held Rutgers to just 26 points earlier in the season.  That got me thinking...

ACC Morning Linkfest 12/22/2014 with Game Sim Predictions

ACC basketball teams split two games on Sunday with UVA topping Harvard in a dominating performance and BC dropping a disappointing game to USC at home.  Virginia allowed Harvard to score just 1 field goal in the first half and defeated the Ivy League school 76-27.  Virginia is playing as well as anyone in the nation at the moment. Boston College didn't have the same luck as the...

ACC Bubble Analysis for 12/21/2014

Which ACC teams made positive moves this week in our ACC Bubble Analysis? As more games are played you’ll see the RPI come more in line with the Selections… Now about those bubble teams… In my ranking system, any RPI top (100) win is a good win and any RPI top (50) obviously worth more. Any losses outside the RPI top (100) is considered a bad loss, and outside the RPI (150...

ACC Suspends Louisville's Montrezl Harrell

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference has issued a one game suspension to Louisville's Montrezl Harrell after he received a flagrant foul two during the Cardinals’ game against Western Kentucky on Saturday.  The suspension will be served by Harrell in Louisville's next game against CSU-Northridge on Tuesday. The ACC considers the matter closed and will not have further comment.

Virginia leaves Crimson seeing red

One of my suitemates freshman year had a massive pet snake, and the pleasure he took in watching it eat was a little discomfiting to the rest of us. I didn’t get it until the last few seasons of Virginia basketball, where the way Tony Bennett’s guys squeeze the life out of opposing offenses is awesome, but can be a little hard to take if you don’t love them. Harvard had no...

Pitt defeats Oakland 81-77 in Overtime

The Panthers needed overtime to beat Oakland for the second straight time. Just like in the previous meeting between the Oakland Grizzlies and the Pitt Panthers, overtime was required to decide a winner. And just like in the 2012 meeting, the Panthers emerged victorious. Pitt defeated Oakland 81-77 in what really was a game they had no business winning. The Panthers trailed for 27...

ACC Morning Linkfest 12/20/2014 with Game Sim Predictions

Just a quick post for the day.  The ACC lost both games on Friday night with Clemson losing to South Carolina by 23 and Miami losing to Eastern Kentucky by 28.  Miami's loss in particular was a disappointing effort in which they were outscored in the 2nd half 45-19.  The loss wasn't exactly of "Chaminade classification" though, EKU was ranked #64 on the NCAAGameSim.com rankings...

Virginia takes down Cleveland State

Cleveland State isn’t a bad basketball team. That much was on display at times last night, like when they held us to 8-20 shooting in the first half, or scored 36 points in the second. Unfortunately for them, each of these outbursts on one end were accompanied by slumps (making two of their first 17 shots, allowing 39 to us) on the other. Malcolm Brogdon and Justin Anderson scored...

Takeaways from Duke's win over UConn

A couple of takeaways from last night: Tyus Jones & Amile Jefferson will always find ways to impact the game.Tyus may not always be on with his shot but what he does do is force the issue, Jones was 9-10 from the free throw line. That is a huge stat and shows that with the ball in his hands even in a low scoring game he will find a way. Amile is a guy that is going to fight...

Duke Slugs it Out With UConn, wins 66-56

Duke grits out a tough game against UCONN and gets the win 66-56. Duke played a very hungry and pesky UCONN team lead by Ryan Boatright who scored 22 of this teams 56 points. Boatright was also responsible for 4 steals and kept Duke off-balance on both ends of the floor. Duke turned the ball over 19 times and while some were unforced most were attributable to a very wily UCONN...

ACC Morning Linkfest 12/18/2014 with Game Sim Predictions

The ACC had 3 double-digit wins (well, almost) on Wednesday night.  The best of the three came from NC State who bounced back from their loss to Wofford by beating Tennessee 65-56.  Ok, not double-digits, but close enough for the intro.  Ralston Turner was the star for the Pack, scoring 33 points and making 8 3's on the night.  The Pack posted an offensive efficiency of 137...

Jamie Dixon comments on Steve Pederson leaving Pitt

Steve Pederson and Pitt 'mutually' agreed to part ways on Wednesday and with the news that Paul Chryst was leaving for Wisconsin, it's been a busy day. Buried in between all of that as the fact that Pitt actually had a basketball game against Manhattan tonight. The Panthers won and one of our writers, Aron, was down with the media for the contest and afterwards, Pederson leaving...

Pitt defeats Manhattan 65-56

It wasn't pretty but a win is a win as the Panthers improve to 7-3 on the season. While it is a tough thing to do, taking each game one at a time might be the best approach with this Pitt basketball team. This game, the Panthers defeated the Manhattan Jaspers 65-56 in what certainly was not a pretty win, but a win nonetheless.   While Manhattan is now 2-7 and not going to make too...

Steve Pederson out as Pitt athletic director

Coaching search will answer questions about Pitt administration

Pitt's approach to this coaching vacancy will say a lot about the administration. The University of Pittsburgh is about to conduct their fourth head football coaching search and subsequent hire since the year 2010. The tenures of Mike Haywood, Todd Graham, and Paul Chryst have since passed, and the program is no better off now than when the school let go of Dave Wannstedt. The former...

Duke plays poorly versus Elon; Was it rust?

Duke hadn’t played in 11 days before their match up against Elon last night, and I heard a lot of talk about rust after the 75-62 victory. Besides turnovers, though, the stats from the game might not speak to rust as much as expected. Many point to Duke’s shoddy three point percentage, and I agree that many of the shots were wide open. But three pointers are fickle, and...
