La Salle at Virginia 11/28/2014 9:30:00 PM | TV:NBCSN | LIVE STATSI’m not terribly familiar with La Salle’s basketball program, only knowing for sure that they spent most of their 15-year NBA career with the Indiana Pacers. The Explorers went 15-16 last season, but we’re just two years removed from them winning three NCAA Tournament games (with an asterisk, one ...
Pitt was thoroughly embarrassed in a disappointing showing in the Maui Invitational against San Diego State in an ugly 17-point loss. And in case you weren't sure if the Panthers realized how bad they looked, at least one player did.
In fact, Mike Young credited that to the team putting forth a big effort against Kansas State to win third place in the tournament.
What a difference a game makes.
I use that phrase a lot, but it was really applicable tonight. After several lackluster performances against Samford, Hawaii, and last night, San Diego State, Pitt wasn't quite left for dead, but there was a considerable amount of angst over the state of the team (and even, by some, the program as a whole). Everything's not quite right in the world...
Last Week: 5-2 Overall: 77-26
Virginia vs. Virginia Tech
After stuffing yourself with leftover turkey and surviving ravenous crowds at your local mall, you get sit down and watch some Friday night football. And you get what ends up being a pretty meaningful game between two very mediocre teams. The winner goes bowling, and the loser stays home. The Hokies have won the last 11...
Back in 2003, there was legitimate palpable excitement for this game. Actually, there was legitimate palpable excitement for the program in general, the result of having a coach that came in and actually had more or less immediate success. But the VT game had a very distinctive this-is-our-time feeling to it, which persisted even though VT was 8-3 and ranked, and UVA was...

Not a great night for the ACC once again. Pitt didn't compete against San Diego State in Maui and Virginia Tech never had a shot against Northern Iowa. Syracuse and Virginia rolled past cupcakes, while Miami avoided a tricky back-to-back game at Charlotte to win 77-74.
FSU beat The Citadel without Aaron Thomas and Devon Bookert. Thomas is still recovering from the dizzy...
Mount St. Mary's at Wake Forest 11/26/2014 7:00:00 PM | TV: | LIVE STATSThe Demon Deacons square off against Mount St. Mary's Wednesday night in Winston-Salem
Following a dominant performance over an overmatched Nicholls State team on Monday, Wake looks to continue their winning ways as Mount St. Mary's rolls into town for a pre-Thanksgiving contest Wednesday night. The...
Butler at UNC 11/26/2014 12:00:00 PM | TV:ESPN2 | LIVE STATSAfter two fairly easy wins at home and a slightly tougher test on the road against Davidson, the Tar Heels take a 3-0 record into a Wednesday match-up against Butler in the quarterfinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament.
If this match-up between UNC and Butler in November being played at a warm location rings...
Not much to say here, folks. Plus, I mean, it's after midnight, anyway.
Pitt was beaten pretty soundly by San Diego State tonight (okay, fine, last night), 74-57, in the Maui Invitational semifinals. The Panthers had a tall order in the Aztecs, who are ranked No. 15 in the country, but I'm not sure most people expected the blowout that would ensue.
This, though, is what happens when...
Tonight’s 79-36 win lacked any real drama, so one was left to manufacture some in order to keep things interesting. In order:
Would Justin Anderson ever miss?
Would we double up our hapless opponent, or would CTB pump the brakes?
Would everyone who played score?
Would Maleek Frazier get his first career points?
No. Justin made all seven of his...
Pittsburgh at San Diego State 11/25/2014 10:00:00 PM | TV:ESPN | LIVE STATSWhat kind of test will the Pittsburgh Panthers face tonight against San Diego State?
Despite, their stumble against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, the Pittsburgh Panthers rebounded nicely against the Chaminade Silverswords in the opening round of the Maui Invitational. Things will get much harder as...
Tennessee State at Virginia 11/25/2014 7:00:00 PM | TV: | LIVE STATSThis is not East Tennessee State, Middle Tennessee State, or the University of Tennessee. It’s Tennessee State University, one-time home to Oprah Winfrey, Rufus Thomas, and the messages in Anthony Mason’s hair.
This game concludes a four game homestand for the ‘Hoos, after which the competition ramps...
It has been rare in the past few days, but the ACC had a perfect night on Tuesday. Believe it or not, the best win went to Clemson who defeated a top 100 Pomeroy team, LSU, 64-61. A new star may be emerging for Clemson, as freshman Donte Grantham got a start and finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals in the win. After losing to Winthrop and Gardner-Webb...
Pitt got back on track on Monday night with an 81-68 win over Chaminade. With the victory, they will advance to play the winner of BYU and San Diego State on Tuesday night.
Mike Young was clearly the best player on the court with 27 points and 15 rebounds. What was particularly refreshing was to not only see the team repeatedly go to him when many players weren't shooting well...
A lot of things are going on in the ACC right now. Football is in the homestretch, and Basketball is gearing up… We check in on the ACC bloggers now.
We’ll start with Virginia Blog StreakingtheLawn. In a scene of pure awesomeness, a Virginia student was caught singing to a goose during the Virginia\Miami football game. Streaking the Lawn has the interview. The man behind the...
Pitt running back James Conner suffered a hip injury in the team's game last week against Syracuse. In his press conference on Monday, head coach Paul Chryst says his status is still up in the air.
"We'll see how he goes," said Chryst. "After the game he felt alright, but obviously it (hip) was hurting him."
Chryst didn't rule out a return for Conner...
A fluke? A fluke?! You’ve got to be kidding me. I’ve heard many refer to Virginia’s 2013-2014 season using these exact words, or others very similar. And while they are ranked around #10 on average in top 25 polls right now and have even been picked to win it all by a couple of media members, I never seem to hear about Virginia when talking to fans about ACC title contenders...
Here are my rankings after week thirteen of ACC football.
1. Florida State (11-0) The Seminoles escaped another upset bid.
2. Georgia Tech (9-2) The Yellow Jackets have in state rival Georgia to close the season.
3. Louisville (8-3) The Cardinals had a nice win at Notre Dame.
4. Clemson (8-3) Tyshon Dye led the Tigers to an easy shutout win.
5. North Carolina (6-5) Once again, UNC...
Here are the numbers that stood out from week thirteen in ACC football.
0-Points scored in regulation by Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
4-Touchdowns accounted for by Marquise Williams.
4-Turnovers forced by Clemson.
43-Rushing attempts by Virginia.
52-Rushing attempts by Pitt.
On Sunday night, Miami won the Charleston Classic with an impressive 77-58 victory over Charlotte. Sheldon McClellan (19 pts), and Manu Lecomte (15 pts), and Angel Rodriguez (13 pts, 5 asts) led the Canes offensive attack. In a scheduling oddity, the Canes will leave Charleston and head to Charlotte to take on the 49ers for the 2nd straight game on Tuesday.
I checked out NC State...
I think one thing the playoffs have proven is that the regular season is not diminished. In fact the end of the regular season, and conference title games will have more interest in them than ever.
We’ll give each conference a relative strength value 1-10.
1) SEC – 9
The SEC lost one of their playoff contenders when Ole Miss was thumped by a 5 loss Arkansas team. Then conference’s...
Historically, the U is used to the defense being on their side. Unfortunately, Scott Stadium is not a Coral Gables courtroom, and a dominant Cavalier defense teamed with tough running from Khalek Shepherd and Taquan Mizzell for CML’s fourth win over Miami in five tries (versus seven in 34 against everyone else in the ACC), a win keeps both our postseason dream and London’s hopes...
While Duke picked up a win in the Coaches versus Cancer Classic, Saturday wasn't exactly a banner day for ACC basketball. FSU took another blackeye losing to Providence by 26 points while Virginia Tech lost to Appalachian State at home on a last second shot. That said, at least no one called a timeout without having any.
Duke defeated Stanford 70-59 behind the continued solid...
