For the second year in a row, the Single-A Lowell Spinners have brought back their politically correct and politically incorrect promotions. In my opinion, minor league teams have the most creative promos out of anybody in the sports world and this one is no different. Check out the...

Last night's win over Seattle gave Jonathan Papelbon his 30th save this season. By reaching that mark he has become the ONLY Red Sox pitcher in history to get 30 or more in 3 straight seasons. The 30-30-30 group is now being called 'The Papelbon Club.' Here is what Jonathan...

As the trade deadline gets closer, the Red Sox have sent out a few feelers in an attempt to bolster their bullpen. One of the biggest names mentioned has been Brian Fuentes. Brian has taken over the closer role in Colorado and has put up decent numbers in his career (3.50 ERA, 439...

This is one of the more amusing Manny Ramirez stories I've read (mainly because it doesn't involve turning a double into a single, or smacking an old man.)
David Ortiz inches closer to returning

While Jon Lester was baffling the easily-baffleable Seattle Mariners, David Ortiz was taking another step towards full recovery from his injury. Instead of playing in Triple-A Pawtucket (where he bought the team goat tacos and other gross sounding food), he was taking his swings with...

The Red Sox have lost their one solid point in the bullpen (besides Jonathan Papelbon) for at least 15 days. David Aardsma is suffering from an undisclosed leg injury and has been put on the disabled list. His numbers this season include a 2.75 ERA and an impressive 41 strikeouts in...

Big Papi had his first rehab start with the Pawtucket Red Sox last night; however, he had jaws dropping before the game even started. Much like the other night before the All-Star Game, Ortiz took full advantage of his time in the batting cage. He managed to launch 11 balls out of...

The Sox have announced that they have officially signed 1st round draft choice Casey Kelly. Kelly, taken as the 30th pick, was a two sport star (football and baseball) for Sarasota High School and had previously committed to playing for Tennessee. The Sox had faith that they could...

J.D. Drew didn't waste much time before taking advantage of his very first All-Star game appearance. He started off his night by roping a line drive over the wall in right for a 2 run homerun against NL ERA leader Edinson Volquez. Drew ended the night 2-4, adding a single and a...

Yesterday at Yankee Stadium was the annual 'All-Star Media Day.' Once again Manny Ramirez didn't feel like showing up to answer questions. This was nothing new as he hasn't popped in for 'Media Day' since 2004 and probably will never come again unless he'...

We mentioned the other day that 5 Pawtucket players have been elected to participate in the International League's All-Star Game. Among them was RHP Charlie Zink, who is leading all starters (with 100+ IP) with a 2.22 ERA. Unfortunately because Zink pitched last night, the IL decided...

All it took was two swings of the bat to morph OF Che-Hsuan Lin from an obscure Single-A prospect into a slightly less obscure Single-A prospect. Lin, representing the Red Sox in Sunday's 'XM All-Star Futures Game,' went 2-2 in the game and was named the MVP. His two hits...

Today's win over the Orioles not only helped the Red Sox reclaim the top spot in the AL East but it also helped Jonathan Papelbon get his 100th career save. He is just the 3rd Red Sox closer to EVER reach that number.
Paps has 28 saves so far this season and only needs 33 more...

The Red Sox are heading into the All-Star break leading the AL East after today's 2-1 win against the Orioles. The team has a 1/2 game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays. TB has lost 7 straight while Boston is 7-3 in their last 10 games.
Maybe the Rays shouldn't have played "...

Jed Lowrie was recalled from Pawtucket today to take the place of Julio Lugo. Lugo, who crumpled to the ground in last night's game, will go on the DL with what is most likely a slight tear in his quad muscle.
Lowrie has a pretty decent .817 OPS in 17 games for the Red Sox this season.

Michael Bowden was #3 on my pre-season list of Red Sox pitching prospects and number 94 on Baseball America's 'Top 100 MLB Prospects' list for 2008. So far this season he's done nothing but put together a good case to increase his ranking on both lists. How good has...

There is no doubt about it, Jon Lester has been the ace of the Red Sox staff thus far. He has already thrown 2 complete game shut-outs (1 of them being a no-hitter). Of his 18 starts this season, 11 of them have been quality starts. That means 61% of the time he has gone 6+ innings...

Dear Tim McCarver,
I pay a ridiculous amount of money every month so that I can get NESN and NESNHD. I enjoy watching the Bruins but I buy cable solely for Red Sox games. This is why it makes me completely furious when the games are blacked out and I have to watch FOX. I tried overlaying...
