Hanging Up the Spikes

I started the Baseball Lab a few months ago (late last winter) and for the most part have enjoyed just about every minute of it. Fantasy baseball is exciting and challenging, and the competition drives me, as silly as that sounds, but at the same time I know most of you are nodding...

Whoops, I should have finished the Top 10

And by the way, the race for #1 overall was not close. Schmidt truly was in a class by himself in 1981, with the best overall HR rate above average and RBI rate above average of any player in the study. He was also well above average in Batting Average and Runs scored, and his 12 SB...

Be Your Own Scout

I am ashamed to say that I had not had the opportunity to see Fausto Carmona pitch until last night. As a result, I looked at the numbers and saw somebody (through the end of June) strike out just 48 batters in 96 innings (4.5 K/9). Numbers that are not in the least bit impressive...

The Baseball Lab's Seasons

It was a season of blunders, misfortunes, and success - probably all of which will happen if you play in enough leagues. I was satisfied with my "baseball lab" teams, but dissatisfied in the personal league that means the most to me. In truth, I only post this to be palms...

Fantasy Baseball - Toss your 5th, 6th, and 7th starters to the curb

The odds of making good on a draft pick for your 5th, 6th, or 7th starting pitcher is terrible. Same with your 5th outfielder. Next time, spend the minimum and focus on the waiver wire. Here's proof looking back at 2007.
