Touching on All ASU Sports

We had an eventful ASU sports weekend, but mostly for the wrong reasons. We might as well start with the good.Basketball Looking LegitI had the pleasure of attending the ASU-San Fransisco basketball game on Friday night. ASU rolled the Dons (greatest nickname ever?) 104-65 in a display of three point shooting I don't think I have ever seen from a Sun Devil team. The team combined...

Herb Sendek: ASU's MVP

Who do you think the MVP of ASU basketball is going to be this year?Eric Boateng? The senior center has looked good so far and put up 21-12 against TCU, but I'm not ready to trust him yet.Derek Glasser? The senior leader is probably this team's best player, but his numbers won't wow anyone.Rihards Kuksiks? He is their best scorer. Ty Abbot? He is a decent three point...

Was Bill Belichick Really That Wrong?

Was Bill Belichick really that insane for going for it on fourth and two, up 6 with the ball on his 28 yard line? You've probably heard almost every side of this story because it dominated football discourse on Sunday night and Monday. In case you still have no idea what I am talking about, check it:Was Bill Belichick's decision stupid? Probably. It was the type of decision...

Three Not-So-Quick Arizona Sports Takes

I have three Arizona related sports takes to get to. I don't have time to make them three separate articles, because I'm in grad school. Grad school in November is like the baseball post season, every mistake is magnified. To keep up with the analogy, the difference between grad school and undergraduate school is like the difference between the regular season and post-season...

Firing up the Cardinals bandwagon...

It's true, the season began with a not-so-subtle disappointment against the Fighting Singletaries - the same day that the NFC Championship banner was unfurled at University of Phoenix Glendale Campus Stadium. The inexplicable opening loss was followed up at home by a more-splicable defeat to the Colts. At that point of the season, the 09 Cards were playing like the 08 rendition...

Farewell Friends

Our beloved Tecmo Blog had a fantastic run, but we have hit quite the productivity speed bump and it looks as though it has come to an end. It can be tough for all of us to keep up in this ever busy world we have. I want to thank all you readers for sticking with us throughout the two years we ran this blog, we did it for you (and for us!). I still feel the urge to write about college...

What's Happened to My Tecmo Blog?

It has been 16 days since Tecmo Blog has last come to you with a new post. That is the record for our longest drought ever. I didn't have much to say about the Conference finals in the NBA, I leave any NBA finals talk to the two Laker experts of the Tecmo Blog and I don't care to discuss how the Diamondbacks are literally throwing away their season. Now, I have come back...

Game Seven Thoughts

I know game one of the Eastern Conference Finals started tonight (in fact its the 3rd quarter as I am writing this) but I have a few thoughts on the game sevens we saw on Sunday and Monday. Was game seven of the Cleveland-Boston series not the most glorified game of one on one we've ever seen? I feel as though we need to give that game a name, like the LeBron-Paul Pierce game...

What the Hell Happened To . . . .

Hooray! This is Tecmo Blog's 500th post! With that in mind lets play a little game of "What the Hell Happened To . . " NL West StyleWhat the Hell Happened to Eric ByrnesStat Line: .214-3-15, .275 OBPHad a breakout year last year and was signed to a three year, $30 million contract. He has struggled ever since signing this contract. Byrnes has been terrible. His plate...

Matt Harpring: Tough Guy!

I think this clip sums up the Utah Jazz nicely. After what can only be considered the weakest flagrant 2 ever, watch closely for Matt Harpring’s response. When a teammate goes down, Matt does what any good teammate should do: runs to the referee!! What’s funny about this is you see Pau try and hold him back because he thought Harpring was going after Turiaf. But then Pau...

Farewell, Mike

To say Mike D'Antoni is headed off to greener pastures is a stretch, he is just switching from one marquee NBA team on a down slide to another marquee NBA team that has managed to fall past rock bottom. In New York D'Antoni's greatest asset won't be his beautiful style or knack to win tons of regular season games, his greatest asset will be that he is not his predecessor...

Let's Speculate

It looks like the Suns are in the market for a new head coach, so let's do a Tecmo Blog favorite and speculate who this new head coach may be! Many people think it is going to be a low budget coach because Robert Sarver is cheap. Never mind the fact that Sarver is only one of the few owners in the league paying the luxury tax, gave huge contracts to Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire,...

Ten Random Musings

So I ran and hid from the Blogesphere like a little baby when the Suns went down 3-0. To be fair, I can not really write rationally when it comes to playoff series involving the Sterns (ooops, Spurs. Oh there I go again!) Plus, I have a million other sports thoughts to deal to you, so I decided to give you random musings!Welcome to the Boris Diaw coming out party! I really thought...

NBA Playoff Preview BlogCast

The NBA playoffs are upon us. With the super exciting and jam packed 41 days ahead of us we at the Tecmo Blog decided it was mandatory to put out a podcast. Oh, and everyone else is doing it! So why would you listen to this playoff preview podcast over other playoff preview podcast? I guarantee you no one on the internet mentions Ramon Sessions in their playoff preview podcast as...

If this is real, I don't know if I've seen anything more impressive. Ever. For the record, there is no way this is real.

Should the Olympics be Boycotted?

The Olympics have come under attack lately because of China's involvement in suppressing Tibet's protests against China's rule over their country. I don't know a ton of details on the story, except for the fact that China's dealings of these protests have caused subsequent protests from human rights activists. China taking extreme measures when it comes to ending...

Bayless Escapes Tuscon

Jerryd Bayless is going pro! This is fantastic news for us at the Tecmo Blog who had to deal with the conflicting emotions of our love for Jerryd Bayless (he went to my high school) and our hatred of the University of Arizona. Now we just have to find a way to get him on the Suns . . .

Matt Leinart = American Hero

Why are we so up in arms over Matt Leinart, a young, rich, famous, good looking guy partying with girls while taking beer bongs? People say he should be trying to be better at football, but does this mean he can do nothing but study film and work out? People say he has an image problem. I hardly call chilling in a hot tube with a bunch of young, attractive girls an image problem...

Why everyone hates Duke, as told in 15 seconds

You might have seen Gerald Henderson's cheap shot/flop combo early this week, but MJD at Yahoo! Sports pointed out that on that same play, Kyle Singler got in on the fun with a purple nurple of the WVU point guard. I've never been one to pile on Duke, but watching this video makes me think that I should.
