It was not pretty…
I had said in my preview between arc rivals that one thing that the Heels needed to do is not let the Blue Devils’ role players become super stars. Unfortunately that is what happened, mixed in with the fact that UNC could not score again, and that led to #1 North Carolina (26-7) losing big to #2 Duke (30-4) by the final of 75 tp 58. This ends the ACC post season tournament...

Rivalry game, third act
What’s there to say about this game, it’s once again #1 seed North Carolina (26-6) against #2 seed Duke (29-4), it’s two Top 10 teams, the two teams are basically the cream of the cream when it comes to the Atlantic Coast Conference. It’s arc rivals, 8.5 miles apart, going at it for the third time in a season, with both having a decisive win and a decisive...

Upon further review (UNC/Clemson)
The more I re-watched the game between UNC and Clemson the more I have to admit that what Harrison Barnes can do very few others will be able to duplicate. And by that I mean whether they come to Carolina or go elsewhere for their college career. With the reality that the new CBA might take out the “one and done” what we saw yesterday we might never see again in the ACC...

Pushing the Envelop (03/13/11)
On tonight’s episode of “Pushing the Envelope” (which you can listen to on CLNS Radio live at 8 pm EST or tomorrow on ITunes) we are going to do wall to wall coverage on the tournamen brackets that will have come out just a couple of hours before we go on the air. My guest will be Gus Fraley (@CoachGusFraley on twitter), coach at Chapel Hill High School passionate...

Comeback, take two!
If this is the pattern that UNC is going to keep with, giving huge leads and then take them back to win the game, two things might happen: the Heels will get burnt sooner or later and I might just have a heart attack in following them during March Madness. For the second time in two games head coach Roy Williams’ squad decided to give the other side a lot of hope and a double...

#1 North Carolina vs #4 Clemson
Looking forward to this afternoon’s game between #1 North Carolina (26-5 ~ 14-2 in the ACC) and #4 Clemson (21-10 ~ 9-7 in the ACC) one might think that with the Heels coming off an emotional game and having beaten the Tigers twice this season this should be another W. But we all know that when it comes to the post season all of that goes out the window and so the reality is...

Two out of three ain’t bad, but I am 7 out 8!
While I had a perfect Day One picking the games of the ACC Tournament, in Day Two I went three for four, which is still pretty good considering how lousy I am at picking games. I got the UNC/Miami game, but definitely was way off on thinking that the Tar Herls would have an easy game of it. I did however make the right call on Virginia Tech being my upset, as well as Duke taking...

After a further look (UNC vs Miami)
I have re-watched the UNC/Miami game, as I usually do, and have some more thoughts about it, and here they come. For quite sometimes this team hasn’t needed motivation in order to play well, but for some reason yesterday was a different story. So why could that be? Well, my theory is pretty simple: a Carolina team who had played just one game in the last xx days going up against...

Close call anyone?
Well, my prediction of an easy win by the Tar Heels was way off, but one thing is to be said: if you are going to have the lead only once in the game make sure you have it with 0:00.1 seconds to go. Cause that is exactly what happened in the game between #1 North Carolina and #9 Miami, with the final score being 61 to 59 and the Heels getting that lead with less than 1 tick left...

ACC Tournament (Day Two)
Day two has arrived for the ACC Tournament and that means another four games to watch (starting at noon with UNC vs Miami) and to write about (in this post). For the Heels preview check out my post here, for the rest of the games read below about them. And while I am at it, check out scacchoops‘s web site, where I am one of 60+ people that is still perfect in the ACC Tournament...

#1 UNC vs #9 Miami
Believe it or not, as you can check out from my Day One preview post the first four games went according to plans, which is good for my ego, going 4 and 0, but could also be worrysome as we all wait for UNC to take the court at noon today. Why do I say that? Because it’s seems to me that when the first day goes smooth and no upsets happen, the second one has a couple. of games...

Day One goes as planned (for me anyways)…
First off let me just say that it feels good to go 4 and 0 in the first day of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament. Usually by this time I am moping as I do the post because I am either 2 and 2 or worst. However, as we all know it, the real part of the tournament begins today, as the top four seeds get their feet wet and play their first game. This is where the bubble teams...

Seniority at the ACC Tournament
I heard on the radio that out of the nine head coaches (as three have not yet taken part in the tournament before this season) only a trio had a winning record in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament. While that something I could easily believe, what I had a lot harder time wrapping around was that Sidney Lowe, N.C. State’s head coach that will probably be gone as soon...

ACC Tournament (Day One)
As the Tar Heels (and other three team from the conference) take the day off it is time for the ACC to begin their cocktail party post-season tournament. Of course for those like me this is true beginning of March Madness, because today the games start, go until Sunday, then the selection committee will tell us who goes where and in what seed and finally we have three days to get...

Beckoning the BCS…
Just a quick wrap-up about Beckoning the BCS that was on Tuesday night. I had four great guests that all talked about March Madness, and we surely went over most anything/everything that could be discussed about the Big Dance. The first guest was Clark Nelson (twitter: @ACCSECBlog) from The ACC & SEC Blog and ChuckOliver.net. With Clark it was all about the SouthEastern Conference...

Coach Williams, Henson & Barnes all honored
I think that head coach Roy Williams winning Coach of the Year honors really does not tell the story unless you follow the Tar Heels closely. Last year, with the team not doing anything a lot of people thought that coach Williams wasn’t able to get a hold of the team. This year, with a very young team, with all the defections, you have to admit that Roy Williams clearly had...

Let it go LD, let it go!
When I saw the video that Larry Drew II did and the comments he said in it (and no I am not going to link to it, cause personally I am not going to give that young man any more publicity) all I could think is “let it go”. Yes, let it go Larry, it was your decision to leave (be it alone or with the advice of others), it was your decision not to work with your team during...

Robbed!
I could hear Rodney Dangerfield saying “I get no respect” when I read that the Tar Heels were robbed in the All-ACC voting. As the article goes on to say: “Never before has an outright regular-season ACC champ failed to have a player on the first unit.” And personally, with Tyler Zeller, John Henson and Harrison Barnes all on the second team this truly feels...

It’s Tournament time, well ACC Tourney anyways
So, after a roller coaster of a season, the Tar Heels are the ACC Regular Season Champs. However, in what is the whacky world of college basketball, we all know that for the most part the conferences crown their Champions not on what they did during the full length of a season, but rather on a tournament that means a lot to teams needing to get into the NCAA Tournament the following...

Pushing the Envelope (3rd Episode)
Tonight on “Pushing the Envelope” we once again look at a subject that not too many people like to discuss: the AAU Basketball System. I will ask my two guests, Alex Schwartz and Jeff Borzello, what is the good side of AAU and what is the bad side of it as well. And of course “in the end is it a good or a bad thing” for both the kids, the high schools and...

ACC Champs!
While not being a fan of cliches I will begin this post with one: “What a difference a year (or season) makes”. Why do I say that? Simple, how did you feel the last regular game of the `09-`10 season, as Duke basically did what they wanted at Cameron Indoor Stadium, winning the game by 32! Now, last night’s game at the Dean Dome didn’t have the same margin...

Happy Birthday Dean Smith…
Dean Edwards Smith was born 80 years ago, and while he is known for the many victories on the basketball court, he should be also known for the many things he has done outside of the game. In his 36 year as the head coach for the Tar Heels coach Smith took his squads 11 times to the Final Four and twice won it all, the first time with a freshman named Michael Jordan! He holds the...

With one week to go…
If this was the swan song for Sidney as the head coach of the Wolfpack he sure made it pretty interesting. In the end, thanks to yet again another end of the game run by freshman Harrison Barnes, it was North Carolina taking this one by a dozen, with the final score being 75 to 63. While the score seems a bit close for two teams headed in the opposite direction, N.C. State 15 and...

UNC wins a close one
The last time that North Carolina and Boston College met it was an away game for the Tar Heels and they pounded their opponents for over 100 points in the match up, with the final being 106 to 74. Less than three weeks later the two teams met up again, in the friendly compound of the Dean Dome and this time the two squads could not combine to score the amount of points that the Heels...
