Eagles Preseason is in the Books
The Eagles Preseason has come to a close with a meaningless record of 3-1. I know the games don't count but I still feel better with a winning record.
Thoughts?
1. Mike Vick still hasn't shown me that he can recognize the blitz. I like that he can run when needed but I still think he uses that option too often. Now that the offensive line is set I think he'll have more...

Eagles Lose Bad
The Eagles are far from the awful "Dream Team" label that has been thrust on them by the media. They've been trying to say that this isn't a dream team and they proved it last night in Pittsburgh. The score wasn't even as close as it ended up being. We only lost by 10 but it wasn't that close. Michael Vick looked scared, frankly, that the constant Pittsburgh...

Maclin Declared Healthy
In what was quite the mystery, Jeremy Maclin has been absent from practice and missed the entire training camp. No word was given on why he was missing, only that he had an "undisclosed illness". Speculation was rampant as everyone wanted to know what was up with arguably our best receiver. Finally today, Maclin' s camp announced that he was being tested for lymphoma...

Random Things I Think
So now with football (pre)season in full swing, I'm going to start a new feature called (for now) Things I Think. It's similar to parts of Peter King's MMQB and Shutdown Corner by MJD (no, not THAT MJD). It's a space where I can spout random football related things that I think are funny and post-worthy. I spend so much time here talking only about the Eagles that...

Eagles Win First Preseason Game
The Eagles played a decent game against a rusty-looking Ravens team last night, winning 13-6. Michael Vick and the first team offense looked sharp, despite playing without DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin. Newest Eagle Steve Smith also sat out, as he knee is still not 100%. The Eagles threw the ball 32 times and ran the ball 26 times. That is a huge number for Andy Reid but they...

Ronnie Brown Signs
The Eagles have their backup runningback/short yardage back. They have signed Ronnie Brown to a 1-year contract. I'll be curious to see how much the former Dolphin got for 1 year, as long as we didn't break the bank I'll count it as a good signing. We drafted Dion Lewis but you can't count on him to be a backup quite yet. In the NFL these days you need two running...

Bunk Traded… Again.
Brodrick Bunkley was traded to the Cleveland Browns for a 5th round draft pick next year. It seemed like a good trade to me since Bunk would have a chance to start in Pat Shurmur's new 4-3 defense. Also the Browns' staff is made up of almost all former Eagles. From Tom Heckert to Pat Shurmur the Browns apparently like what we do and therefore why wouldn't they want a...

Eagles Bolster Defense
The Eagles have made a ton of moves over the weekend and all of last week. If you missed any of it, here is a convenient list of Eagles' transactions:
Signed CB Nnamdi Asomugha (5 years, $60 million; $25 million guaranteed) - The big signing of the offseason, this guy instantly makes us favorites for the Super Bowl.
Signed DE Phillip Hunt - Last year's CFL defensive player...

Eagles Land Nnamdi
In a shocking turn of events, the Eagles have snatched the star cornerback from the Jets and the Cowboys. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the deal is worth $60 million over five years, with $25 million guaranteed. It's not a bad deal and really the Birds didn't break the bank. It's a similar deal to the one Asante Samuel signed a few years ago. The question now is, who starts...

Akers Is Gone
In a surprisingly depressing (for me) article, PFT.com is reporting that the San Francisco 49ers have signed free agent kicker David Akers to a contract, finally ending his run with the Eagles. Akers was a tremendously clutch kicker, though he ended his career here by missing two playoff field goals. He should be remembered though as an amazingly accurate and dependable kicker who...

Kolb Finally Traded
PFT.com is reporting (via Adam Caplan of FOXSports.com) that QB Kevin Kolb has been traded to the Arizona Cardinals for a second round pick and CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Rodgers-Cromartie was a Pro Bowler in 2009 and can be a playmaker in this defense.
It's quite the haul for Andy Reid and the Eagles, especially since Kolb only has a handful of starts in the NFL. Kolb can...

Eagles Sign Eight Picks
Finally the Eagles make an impact, even if it's only to sign their own picks. It's almost more news worthy to mention who they haven't signed:
23rd overall - Danny Watkins G
237th overall - Greg Lloyd LB
240th overall - Stanley Havili FB
And now the players who have:
54 - Jaiquawn Jarrett S
90 - Curtis Marsh CB
116 - Casey Matthews LB
120 - Alex Henery K
149 - Dion Lewis...

Lockout Over!
I figure I should fire up this machine to start blogging again now that the NFL Labor Battle is over. The Eagles report for training camp this Wednesday and they can start signing and trading tomorrow. Free agency itself doesn't start until Friday but we expect plenty of moves until then.
Speaking of moves, the Birds have rescinded the Transition Tag on kicker David Akers. The new...

Eagles Tabbing Ike?
While most sensible people (like me) are thinking the Eagles will go after premier cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, sources close to the team are saying they are looking at another guy, from much closer to home. Pittsburgh cornerback Ike Taylor is testing the open market and the Eagles could be his next spot. I can hear you guys now, saying that Ike is barely better than Joselio Hanson...

Free Agent Outlook
No, the lockout is still going, but I want to make sure everyone is ready for when it starts. Jeff Lurie, Joe Banner, Howie Roseman, and Andy Reid have all said that the Eagles have a plan in place and will aggressively attack free agency. I will be making up a handy chart on who (I think) the Eagles will go after. Let's start today with the Running Backs.
Running back is a position...

Eagles Not Interested in Nnamdi?
Did I read this right? Clarke Judge of CBSSports.com is reporting that a source close to the Birds is saying that the team is "indifferent" towards the star cornerback. Granted, Nnamdi is going to be 30 and usually there is a dip in his performance but didn't we say the same thing about Asante? Nnamdi's work ethic and devotion to his craft are second to none. I...

Not So Fast, Plax
In other news today (two posts in one day! Awesome!), the Plaxico Burress-To-Philly rumors have a flip side to talk about: Jeff McLane wrote on his Twitter account that the interest is totally on the side of Plaxico and not the Eagles, "Trust me on this." That's good, I will continue to say that he will be, at best, a #4 receiver. That's if he can beat out Riley...

That Was Fast
So apparently Michael Vick organized a Eagles-players practice session a while back and a ton of guys showed up to work out together. Nice idea, I know. Vick was the mastermind behind these practices and that showed a lot of leadership from the starting QB. Not long afterwards, the practices have dwindled down to a QB (not Vick) throwing to a WR. That's it. Mike Kafka and Jeremy...

Several Eagles Want Plaxico
With Plaxico Burress set to be released from prison on June 6th, speculation has begun as to what teams (if any) are interested in signing him. Michael Vick has spoken out on the subject to Ike Reese (yay Ike!) and Anthony Gargano of WIP that he wants the wideout in Midnight Green.
“I think certainly Plaxico is going to come out with a chip on his shoulder the same way I did and...

Danny Watkins is Eagles’ First Pick
In a wild first round last night. The Eagles stood pat and took their guy. That guy was Danny Watkins, the 26 year old Canadian offensive lineman from Baylor. I like the pick. Watkins is the kind of guy both Andy Reid and Howard Mudd love; a blue-collar, hard working tough lineman. He is athletic enough to make an impact with enough upside to warrant a first round pick. I was surprised...

So Who Is It Going To Be Tomorrow?
With the draft less than 24 hours away, I felt like I needed to post something on what the Eagles may do. This lockout is killing me! Anyway, I feel that there is really only a few way the Eagles can go but I spelled it all out for you in my opinion. This is what I think the Eagles should do, not what I think they will do. I know better than try to predict what Andy Reid and co....

Eagles Perch Second Round Mock Draft
New England Patriots - Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama
Someone for Gabe Carimi to block for. The Patriots backfield is good, and they get great production out of less talented players, but look for either the Pats to take the Heisman winner, or for someone else to trade up here and take him.
Buffalo Bills - Andy Dalton, QB, TCU
The Bills need a QB and I can see them trading up into the...

The Eagles Perch First Round Mock Draft
Here is my official first attempt at a mock draft. I figure with the draft only a few short weeks away, I better get cracking. Now as we know, the lockout is preventing any trades or free agent signing from happening. This is very restrictive on what will happen at the draft, but we're gonna try to predict it anyway. Use the comments section to tell me if I'm right or wrong...
