Estonian player drains crazy blind shot
This absurdly lucky shot comes courtesy of an Estonian baller by the name of Armands Skele, who you've probably never heard of before and will probably never hear from again. Regardless, it's impossible not to appreciate this impossible shot. http://twitter.com/PeteBlackburn http://twitter.com/TheNosebleeds

Zdeno Chara and Andrew Ference recreate scene from Titanic
Zdeno Chara and Andrew Ference shared an intimate bonding moment this past weekend by recreating the ol' Jack and Rose "King of the World" moment from Titanic.
Pretty hilariously bromantic if you ask me. Let's just hope that's the only sinking ship that they're a part of this week...

Derek Lowe has World Series ring stolen
Former Red Sox pitcher and current Indians starter Derek Lowe had his 2004 World Series championship ring, along with an unnamed gold trophy and other items, stolen from his Florida home late last week.
According to the report, one of Lowe's housekeepers told investigators on Friday someone had broken into the residence on Terabella Way and stole the ring,...

The Save 2.0?
Lost in the excitement of Tyler Seguin's overtime winner on Sunday was the incredible stop that Tim Thomas made against Capitals forward Marcus Johansson in the second period of Game 6.
The stop was eerily similar to the one Thomas made on the Lightning's Steve Downie during Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals last year. Both sprawling stick saves came with the...

Jim Nantz and Phil Simms to be the new voices of Madden 13
We still don't know who will be on the cover (the final vote is down to Calvin Johnson vs Cam Newton) but it is being reported today that Jim Nantz and Phil Simms will be the featured commentators on EA Sports' Madden 13 this year.
Gus Johnson and Cris Collinsworth have voiced Madden's action over the past few years and it is unknown whether the two will...

"The Kid" helps Bruins live to see another day
Teetering on the brink of a first round elimination in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, 20-year old Tyler Seguin had a "coming of age" moment as he rose to help the Bruins live to see another day (or three).
Seguin scored his first goal of the 2012 postseason in overtime on Sunday afternoon in Washington, capping a victory for the Bruins...

The Canucks are golfing
Yesterday was a great day for hockey in Boston. Not only did the Bruins fight off the Capitals in an overtime thriller to force a Game 7 back in the Hub, but the hated Vancouver Canucks also were bounced from the playoffs after losing in sudden death overtime to the L.A. Kings in Game 5 of their first round series.
Despite entering the playoffs as the top seed and Presidents...

Celtics Weekly Update: April 21
The Boston Celtics are two games away from the playoffs and they're playing their best basketball of the season. The C's are 22-10 since the all-star break, while playing a very difficult schedule. They've been one of the best teams in the NBA since the break, even with the number of injuries that they've suffered through that time.
In my mind, the brightest...

So the Celtics almost traded Paul Pierce and Ray Allen?
Yahoo! Sports writer Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Celics Big Three was almost split at the trade deadline. Ray Allen was told that he was traded to Memphis for O.J. Mayo and a 2012 first round pick. Twenty minutes later he got a call from Doc saying that the trade was off. Then Paul Pierce, the heart and soul of the Celtics for the past 12 or so years, was almost...

Do we really need to win it all to be happy?
It looks like Pierce and KG aren't going to play tonight. Not to mention that Rondo, Ray, and Pietrus already didn't make the trip to Atlanta. The Celtics have basically come to the conclusion that rest is more important than having home court advantage in the first round. Here's a breakdown of the whole situation. They've made this decision in order...

Happy 100th birthday, Fenway Park
The Red Sox open up their 2012 season series against the Yankees at 3:05 today, but more importantly today's game marks the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park.
Friendly Fenway held it's first game on April 20th, 1912 when the Red Sox took on the New York Highlanders (they were renamed the Yankees the following year), beating their future arch rivals by a final...

Celtics sign C Sean Williams
That Sean Williams? Yes, that Sean Williams. The former Boston College shot-blocking supremacist is going to be wearing green for the rest of the season. Williams was taken 17th overall in the 2007 NBA draft by the New Jersey Nets. He never panned out and he's been somewhat of a problem off of the court.
Williams played two years for the Nets in which he would consistently...

Who are the contenders?
A year ago I wrote a short piece about "the most wide open NBA playoffs in a long time." I gave five teams virtually identical chances to win the title. Amazingly the team I thought was 6th best, Dallas, ended up taking home the trophy. This year for the vast majority of the season it looked like only three teams (Heat, Bulls, Thunder) had a shot to win it all....

Late hit by Raffi Torres puts Hossa on a stretcher
In the first period of tonight's game, Raffi Torres laid this hit on Marian Hossa after Hossa released a pass at center ice. 0.83 seconds passed (0.50 is considered late) after Hossa's release before Torres left his feet to deliver a high hit. Torres received no penalty for his hit, instead Brandon Bollig, a Blackhawk, was assessed a double-minor for roughing and a...

Nicklas Backstrom faces suspension for cross-check to head
In case you haven't seen it by now, here's the video of Nicklas Backstrom's match penalty for cross-checking. In the game's dying seconds Rich Peverley pinned the puck against the boards to kill off the clock when he was confronted by three Capitals. Alex Ovechkin, after finishing a check to get the puck loose, thrust his stuck up into Peverley's groin....

Matt Garza Leads off this Season of Baseball Bloopers
I guess all I can say is that one just got away? Because this throw really set me off. There's two outs in the ninth and Matt Garza's working on a complete game shutout. Garza's on my fantasy team. Those are two categories which he easily could have wrapped up for me with this 15 foot throw. Instead he has to show off his inner Chuck Knoblauch and toss it 10...

Well, yesterday the center decided that he'll be headed ot Mizzou to play for the Tigers. Alex turned down Duke, UNC, Kentucky, and Xavier to go to Missouri.
Oriakhi now reunites...

How the Wake/Tek first pitch could have been better
First of all, I have to give credit to my mom, who emailed me that idea the day Varitek retired. But I don't think the Sox executed it as well as they could have. They tried to do too much with it. There was no need for Dwight Evans and Jim Rice to be involved. And this is going to sound cruel and heartless, but I didn't like those kids being on the field either...

Popeyes near Fenway trolls Red Sox
If you've been to Fenway Park, you've probably seen that Popeyes on the corner right next to the bridge that leads to the park. Well, the restaurant busted out the above sign just in time for Friday's Opening Day in Boston, obviously poking fun at the whole "Inside the Collapse" clubhouse expose published in the Globe after last season.

Chris Kelly emerges as early playoff hero for B's
After 60 minutes of scoreless hockey, Chris Kelly came through for the Bruins just barely a minute into overtime in Game 1 against the Capitals last night. Kelly's slapshot from the point beat the Caps rookie goaltender Braden Holtby (who, by the way, played fantastic in his first career playoff game) glove side to give the B's a 1-0 win and 1-0 series lead in the Eastern...
