Chiefs: What are the Chances...?
The Steelers are a ten-point favorite at Kansas City tonight—and deservedly so. Arrowhead Stadium is one of the toughest venues for a visiting team, but with Tyler Palko at QB and numerous key players lost for the season due to injury, it’s difficult to imagine the 4-6 Chiefs coming away with a win against Pittsburgh. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Kyle Orton makes an appearance...

Cardinals: What are the Chances...?
The Steelers’ performances on the road thus far in 2011 have ranged from downright awful to barely adequate. So it’s something of a surprise that the Steelers are a four-point favorite at Arizona -- against a Cardinals team that has been competitive in all its games but one (a blowout loss two weeks ago at Minnesota). Of course, Arizona has the home-field advantage, and has also...

Jaguars: What are the Chances...?
The Steelers are a 12-point favorite against the struggling 1-4 Jaguars. Colt McCoy's first game against the Steelers aside, Pittsburgh usually makes life difficult for rookie QB's - and Blaine Gabbert's experience should be no different. Though Gabbert has tremendous upside, I doubt we'll see a strong performance from him today. The pick is Pittsburgh, though I don't necessarily...

Titans: What are the Chances...?
The Steelers are a three-point favorite against the Titans — surprising, considering how well Tennessee has fared this season and how shaky the Steelers have been. Pittsburgh’s problems are now compounded by the rash of injuries that have hit the team. Of course, Ben Roethlisberger’s foot is the most significant. Even if Big Ben plays on Sunday, one wonders how effective he...

Tomlin challenged when it comes to challenges
I’ve been saying for years that Mike Tomlin is not nearly as good an in-game coach as Bill Cowher and one reason is his use (or lack of use) of challenges. Example: In tonight’s game, on the fourth quarter drive in which the Colts drove 80 yards to tie the score at 20-20, the Colts appeared to be stopped just short on a third down play at the 30-yard-line. But Indy got a favorable...

Colts: What are the Chances...?
It seems the main way the game can go wrong tonight at Indianapolis is if the Steelers’ tackles can’t slow down Colts DE’s Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis, a not unlikely scenario considering that Pittsburgh’s OT’s are Jonathan Scott and rookie Marcus Gilbert. It could be that the Steelers will run the ball more than usual, especially early on, in hopes of avoiding the...

Seahawks: What are the Chances…?
The Steelers are a 14-point favorite against the Seahawks, a shocking large number considering the Steelers’ performance in week one. But if the Steelers play with the emotion and intensity that was missing last week versus Baltimore, they might very well cover. The Steelers should be able to make big plays in the passing game, and it’s hard to imagine Seattle QB Tavaris Jackson...

Packers: What are the Chances...?
The Packers are the favorite in today’s Super Bowl, and with good reason. Green Bay has a huge advantage in terms of its front seven versus Pittsburgh’s injury depleted offensive line (which will include just one opening day starter). Meanwhile, the fact that the game is indoors also favors the Packers and their precision passing game. The Steelers will need to put an exceptional...

Ravens: What are the Chances…?
The Steelers may be a 3.5 point favorite in tomorrow’s divisional playoff, but the game is really a pick ‘em proposition. In my estimation, the Ravens (13-4) have the better team, but the Steelers (12-4) have a potentially significant edge at quarterback. And while the Steelers are well rested, the Ravens may have the advantage early in the game, as Baltimore’s offense is more...

Steelers lose to Jets, qualify for playoffs
Despite losing to the New York Jets 22-17 at Heinz Field earlier today, the Steelers clinched a wildcard playoff spot based on a tiebreaker that would go their way on strength of schedule. The Steelers can still win the AFC North and would earn a No. 2 seed if they win their last two games (Carolina, at Cleveland).

Bengals: What are the Chances...?
I've already done a bit of analysis on tonight's game at nfltouchdown.com. And I do believe the Steelers will find a way to win tonight, as a five-point favorite at Cincinnati. Let's give Pittsburgh a 60 percent chance. What are the Chances...? is 4-3 in 2010, and 52-23 all-time.

Saints: What are the Chances...?
The Saints are a one-point favorite over the Steelers and have a significant home field advantage, courtesy of a very loud Superdome. New Orleans also possesses the type of offense that is capable of giving the Steelers big problems, and I expect to see Drew Brees throwing the ball early and often in an effort to test Pittsburgh's pass defense. Still, it wouldn't surprise...

Dolphins: What are the Chances…?
Much has been made of the fact that Pittsburgh will be wearing its black jerseys tomorrow—and that the forecast calls for it to be hot, with temperatures in the high 80s at kickoff. But the Steelers won two warm weather games back in September (at Tennessee, at Tampa Bay), and in both of those contests temperatures were in the 90s. So I’m guessing that the heat will be a non...

Ravens 17, Steelers 14
The absence of Ben Roethlisberger finally caught up to the Steelers today, who lost to the Ravens 17-14 on a last minute Joe Flacco touchdown pass. The game did nothing to dissuade me from the notion that the Steelers are a legitimate Super Bowl contender (with Roethlisberger). “What are the Chances….?” is now 2-2 on the season and 50-22 all-time.

Bucs: What are the Chances...?
The Steelers are a slight favorite for tomorrow’s game at Tampa Bay, mildly surprising considering Pittsburgh’s currently feeble offense, the Bucs’ 2-0 start, and the predicted heat index. The way the Steelers’ defense is playing right now, I wouldn’t be surprised if the black-and-gold ekes out another win. That’s why I’m giving Pittsburgh a 55 percent chance of winning...

Steelers release Leftwich, sign McLendon from practice squad
The Steelers released QB Byron Leftwich today, opening a roster spot for DL Steve McLendon (#69), who was signed from the team's practice squad. With NT Casey Hampton out this week due to a hamstring injury, Pittsburgh felt compelled to add another defensive lineman to its rotation. The Steelers say they plan to re-sign Leftwich following tomorrow's game.

Falcons: What are the Chances?
Today marks the return of “What are the Chances…?”, in which I predict the outcome of the current week’s game. Last year, I finished a mediocre 9-7, during a year in which the Steelers’ performance was wildly unpredictable. The Steelers are a 2.5 point underdog at home against Atlanta this afternoon. That seems like an accurate assessment, as the Falcons have a huge edge...

Donovan McNabb trade, winning percentage
I've noticed that many of the articles announcing the trade of Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins state that McNabb has the third highest winning percentage among NFL QB's behind Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. I believe that's a mistake. Brady has the highest winning percentage in the NFL, followed by Ben Roethlisberger (60-26 regular season - 70%, a little higher...

Raiders: What are the Chances...?
The Steelers are 14-point favorites against the Raiders, which sounds about right. Oakland’s run-oriented offense doesn’t match up well against Pittsburgh’s defense, and Raiders QB Bruce Gradkowski has been dreadful in his two previous starts (with other teams) at Heinz Field. In 2006 (Tampa Bay) and 2008 (Cleveland), he combined to throw five interceptions and no touchdowns...

Prior to the Bengals-Steelers game at Heinz Field this Sunday, Hall of Fame defensive tackle "Mean" Joe Greene will be on hand to accept his Clio award (thirty years after the fact!) for his work in the legendary 1979 Coca-Cola ad that featured nine-year-old boy Tommy Okon offering Greene his Coke, and Mean Joe tossing his white Steelers jersey to Okon as a gesture of thanks...
