Not surprisingly, Ohio State and Kansas were two of the #1 seeds in this year’s tourney. The other two were up for grabs but Duke put an end to that discussion with a dominating performance in the ACC tourney. Pitt was forgiven for their early exit from their own Big East tourney but were also left...

Kirk Herbstreit moves out of Ohio because of crazy fans
College football analyst Kirk Herbstreit could only take so much from the raucous OSU fanbase. For years, fans relentlessly attacked him for being critical of the program and not being a homer as an ESPN analyst. And finally, Herbstreit said enough was enough, and after almost three years of pondering whether to move, he packed his bags and his family and headed to Nashville.
Before...

VIDEO: North Carolina beats Miami at the buzzer
Surprisingly, it was a rough day for ACC regular season champ North Carolina. They fell behind Miami by as much as 17 points and frankly, at times, they looked very disinterested.
But with 10 minutes remaining, the Tar Heels mounted a furious comeback that included a 12-0 run all on three-pointers. And with the score tied at 59 and the clock winding down, North Carolina picked...

VIDEO: This cricket fan is the creepiest dude I’ve ever seen
Cricket’s a big deal in a lot of countries. So perhaps the gentleman in this video with the creepy 1000-yard stare has just been so shaken to his core by Bangladesh’s performance that he doesn’t know how to react. Or he’s criminally insane. Perhaps both!
I would not want to see this dude in a dark alley. Or a lit alley. Really any alley. He’s simultaneously...

Interview: Bobby Hurley calls Jalen Rose’s comments on Duke ignorant
What better way to kick off our tournament coverage here on Guyism than to chat with two-time NCAA National Champion and former Duke legend Bobby Hurley. Hurley, now an assistant coach with Wagner, spoke to us yesterday about a wide range of issues including tournament expansion and the recent comments Jalen Rose made about his Blue Devils.
The comments, which were made by Rose...

VIDEO: Charles Barkley calls Billy Packer a *******
Charles Barkley has been focusing his rants lately on the Miami Heat and their struggles. But he took time last night to address some of the comments former CBS broadcaster Billy Packer made to USA Today about the new tournament TV format. If you recall, last year, Turner Broadcasting announced a partnership with CBS to air tournament games across three of their stations. Packer...

I was already prepared to write the Miami Heat obituary this morning, but somehow, someway, they beat the defending world champion Los Angeles Lakers last night 94-88. The win ends their 5-game losing streak but more importantly, the win eased some of their doubts about end of game scenarios. Dwyane Wade...

VIDEO: Kemba Walker hits buzzer beater to defeat Pitt
UConn’s Kemba Walker showed college basketball fans everywhere why he’s arguably one of the best players in the country. With the score tied against Pittsburgh in the Big East tourney, the Huskies turned to Walker for some late game magic—and he didn’t disappoint.
The Panthers opted to switch on the high ball screen and what followed can only be described...

Montreal fans use 911 system to report Chara hit on Pacioretty
Tuesday night, Zdeno Chara almost decapitated Max Pacioretty. It’s a clip that’s been seen thousands of times here on this site and by NHL fans all around the globe.
As an avid hockey fan, I’ve certainly seen worse hits. I was front and center for the Claude Lemieux cheap shot on the Red Wings Kris Draper that left him with a wired jaw for the better part of six months. ...

Golden Gopher mascot, Goldy, punched in the face at gymnastics meet
This must be the year for mascot-fan fights. Just a few weeks ago, the Utah Jazz mascot got into a heated altercation with a Cleveland Cavaliers fan.
And now it appears, Goldy, the adorable Golden Gophers mascot, was the victim of fan on mascot violence. To make matters worse (or hilarious depending on your perspective), the assailant was a 60-year old man.
During the meet, the...

The NCAA student-athlete pamphlet on gambling
“Don’t bet on it”! That’s the NCAA’s slogan when it comes to informing their student-athletes about the dangers of gambling. The pamphlet, which is provided to every person participating in college athletics is as much hilarious as it is informative. The venerable Clark Kellogg graces the cover to tell kids that gambling can seem attractive but it...

A Michigan high school team that lost one of their star players last week after a game-winning shot, won their second straight playoff game last night. Fennville, which is still reeling after the loss of Wes Leonard defeated Bangor in blowout fashion 79-50. The team has quickly became the talk of the area...

VIDEO: Rutgers, St. John’s game ends in controversy
Rutgers and St. John’s played a hard fought game down to the buzzer this afternoon to determine who would move on to the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament. Unfortunately for all involved, the officials decided to mail it in early, literally not even paying attention to the end of the game.
Down two points with 4.9 seconds remaining, Rutgers desperately tried to heave...

VIDEO: Chris Webber mocks Miami Heat by crying
As an NBA analyst, Chris Webber has been calm, on-point, and at times, even articulate. Surely, he’s not as controversial or as boisterous as Charles Barkley, but oftentimes, he’s not asked to play that role.
Yesterday however, after the Miami Heat lost their fifth in a row, Webber added humor to his analyst repertoire.
Webber later went on to rip the entire organization...

Tiki Barber comes out of retirement for his “love of the game”
Yesterday, former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber filed papers with the NFL to come out of a four year retirement. The 36-year old has not played since 2006, when he announced midway through the season that he was stepping away from the game. Presumably, Tiki is coming back because he needs the money, although, he’s already stated it’s because of his “...

VIDEO: Zdeno Chara’s brutal hit on Max Pacioretty
Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara claimed after the game the hit was unintentional. But from the replay, it certainly looks like there was malice there.
If you haven’t seen the clip yet, consider this your warning. There is no blood involved and Max Pacioretty seems to be o.k. (although he was taken to the hospital for observation), but the hit itself is as grisly as it...

If you missed it last night, Ohio State head football coach Jim Tressel was suspended two games by the university and fined $250k for his knowledge of violations by several of his players. Most, including myself believe the school gave Tressel a pass for the major offense and that when the NCAA investigation...

NFL player tweets photos from cockfight
Kareem Jackson of the Houston Texans probably didn’t realize his tweets were being monitored so closely. But when you tell people you were at a cockfight and you post pictures of said event, well then, surprise, people are going to notice.
Jackson, who plays cornerback, was in the Dominican Republic on vacation when he attended the “sporting event”.

Rugby player gets red card for tackling streaker
Time and time again we’ve seen referees try to inject themselves into the game, perhaps even thinking they are the center of attention. In college basketball, there’s good ‘ol Ed Hightower, in the NFL, there’s Ed Hochuli and his massive pipes, and in rugby, there’s this no-named douchebag who red-carded someone for tackling a streaker.
The player,...

Buckeyes tell Bo Ryan to “Deal with it” during intro video
When Wisconsin defeated #1 ranked Ohio State on February 12th, students and fans rushed the court en masse to celebrate the victory. Several Buckeye players got caught in the shuffle and according to freshman Jared Sullinger, one fan spit on on him.
From his Twitter account that night:
“BuckeyeNation, if you ever decide to rush the court, don’t ever spit on the opponents,...

Texas Tech fires Pat Knight
Texas Tech has fired Pat Knight after only three seasons as head coach. Pat, who was handed the job by his father, ESPN analyst Bob Knight, compiled a 50-60 record in his tenure.
It appears Knight knew the writing was on the wall for him after the Red Raiders lost to Colorado at home on Feb. 23rd.
“We’ve lost seven games in the last minute,” he said. “This...
