Ponch and the 7th Inning Stretch
In case you missed it, here is the video of Erik Estrada talking with Len and Bob yesterday, from my friends at FanIQ:
Len Kaspar details his thoughts on the odd conversation at his blog. Len writes, “Sometimes the bottom of the 7th is all baseball”. When would that be? Only on the road. At [...]

Scottie Pippen “Ladies, let’s have a party!“ (h/t: Windy Citizen)
Larry Bird I guess it was the jeans — not the mullet or hillbilly look
Steve Garvey: Hey Steve Gah-vey, is that a new cologne you got on?
Ron Cey, Darryl Dawkins, Ed White Copywriter got baked and came up with this. And they still ran with it? [...]

5 NL Pitchers That Should Be All-Stars
Jason Marquis is an All-Star. His numbers are decent. Marquis is 8th in innings pitched in the NL with an ERA of 3.87 and the 10 wins stand out. The 51/36 K/BB is rather weak. You can make a case for Marquis for inclusion on the NL team. But you can make a stronger case [...]

Famous Chicago 4s
Josh Q. Public has a cool 4th of July piece up on Famous Sports Fours. No Chicago athletes made the cut, so we present our list of some ‘Famous Fours’ from Chicago sports. Some good, some…not so much.
Luke Appling
Hall of Famer. Awesome nickname: “Ol’ Aches and Pains”. Lifetime .310 hitter. Hit .388 one year, played [...]

Minor League Manager Freaks Out
At the “teaching” level, do these type of tirades do any good?

Chicago Cubs: World Series Champions?
Cubs fans will never learn. A bunch of these types of songs came out in the last year or so. I mostly like the ring in the picture. And the fancy song. Will that song ever be true? Wait til next year.

Gale Sayers 1980 Cheker Gas Commercial
Another gem from Fuzzy Memories, one of my favorite sites! Dig the old school pump and the Bug that drives away. “That Cheker…It’s a gas.”

Leave Carlos Zambrano Alone
Good ol’ Phil Rogers never disappoints. Here’s a bit of his (over) reactionary piece about Big Z’s performance on Sunday against the White Sox.
Get Carlos Zambrano out of here, even if the Cubs have to give him away. He’s not the guy you want as the ace of a curse-busting team, and at this point, [...]

My Final All-Star Ballot
Here is my final MLB All-Star Ballot for 2009:
The NL ballot was easier to cast than the AL’s. I struggled a bit with Ryan Braun over Hunter Pence, then came to the conclusion that Braun deserves the nod. I do enjoy watching Pence play though.
David Wright may have only 4 HRs, but he’s still slugging [...]

Twitter Has Changed Sports Forever
Twitter has taken the sports world by storm and forever changed the way news is disseminated and received. There are numerous examples of this and new ones arrive each day.
Last night Shaq found out about his trade to Cleveland from Twitter. I recently wrote a post about Drew Rosenhaus tweeting that Rex Grossman signed with [...]

Cubs Fans= AYWKUBTTOD
If Cubs fans were a band, we’d have to be “And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead“.
Last night against the Tigers, the Cubs took the lead in the 8th inning with a DLee walk and a Micah Hoffpauir homer of Joel Zumaya. Marmol came in and K’d the side in the bottom [...]

Saturday Fun: Fernando Valenzuela Pitching Corn Flakes
Yeah, I got the feeling Fernando was chowing down on all the sugary cereals. He claims it’s his “favorito” but I’m not buying it. Doesn’t make this video any less fun. Oh, and check out Mexican Wade Boggs in the beginning of the spot.

UFL Draft In the Books
The UFL had its first-ever draft and here are some of the “names” that have been drafted.
Adam Archuleta, former Bear
CJ Bacher, former Northwestern QB
Cecil Sapp, RB
Labrandon Toefield, former LSU RB
Brooks Bollinger, former Viking QB
Chris Perry, former Michigan RB
And that’s about it, as far as I can tell. Here is the rundown of the draft.

Old School Ozzie Guillen
Check out this clip from “Beisbol ‘86″ and Channel 26 before it was “The U”. Interesting choice of music for a Spanish-spoken baseball program. But you can’t fault them too much, Huey Lewis was the man in the mid-80’s, right? Also, it’s a surprise to me that Ozzie’s neck doesn’t break from the weight of [...]

Congrats To The Cubs
Just wanted to hand out some kudos to some of the Cubbies.
Congrats to Alfonso Soriano on his OBP falling below .300. Also, congrats that he is now hitting just .229.
Congrats to his manager, Lou Piniella. He has been in baseball for 73 years but says he doesn’t know what to do about the Cubs flailing [...]

Cardinals Looking At Tejada
I was a bit surprised to read that the Cardinals might be interested in obtaining Miguel Tejada.
“Tejada fits the profile of what the Cardinals are seeking — an offensive deterrent capable of playing multiple positions. The Astros are experiencing financial problems and could part with a player owed $13 million this season. Tejada entered Wednesday [...]
