Track. Tigers Qualify Despite Weather Issues

Although weather problems would affect day one of the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Tigers were still able to compete, paying off with three finals qualifiers in the hammer throw and pole vault and a top ten placing so far in five events of the decathlon.

Baseball. Coleman, Mach Selected on Day Two of MLB Draft

Mizzou's Trevor Coleman and Kyle Mach added their names to the list of drafted Tigers as both were selected on day two of the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Players Draft. Coleman was taken by the Seattle Mariners in the ninth round with the 263rd overall pick, while Mach went to the San Francisco Giants in the 27th round with the 807th pick of the draft.

Baseball. Two Tigers Taken in First Round of MLB Draft

Two Missouri pitchers had their names called by Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig in the first round of the 2009 MLB First Year Players Draft, which got underway on Tuesday. Aaron Crow was selected by the Kansas City Royals with the 12th overall pick and Kyle Gibson went to the Minnesota Twins with the 22nd pick of the first round.

Mizzou golfer Peter Malnati has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Men's At-Large Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Men's At-Large program for the Academic All-America® includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis and water polo.

The University of Missouri has added two opponents to its future football schedules, as announced today by Associate Director of Athletics Mark Alnutt. Alnutt, who oversees football scheduling for the Department of Athletics, has secured multi-game agreements with Miami University (Ohio) and Indiana to be future Tiger foes.

The Missouri softball team officially concluded its season by presenting its annual end-of-the-year awards to select individuals on the 11th-ranked squad. All 22 members of the Women's College World Series team voted for the Hardest Worker, Newcomer of the Year, Best Hitter, Best Pitcher, Best Defensive Player and Most Valuable Player of the Year.

Mizzou saw its season come to an end after an 11-6 loss to Western Kentucky on Sunday in the NCAA Oxford Regional. Playing in its seventh-straight NCAA Regional, Missouri finished with a 1-2 record in Oxford. Both of the Tigers' losses this weekend came against Western Kentucky.

Baseball. Gibson Leads Mizzou to Shutout of Monmouth

Junior Kyle Gibson tied the school record for strikeouts in a season after he struck out eight in eight scoreless innings pitched in a 9-0 Missouri win over Monmouth on Saturday in the NCAA Oxford Regional. Gibson now has 131 strikeouts on the year, tying the MU record set by Max Scherzer in 2005.

The Missouri softball team (50-12) saw its season come to an end after dropping a 5-2 loss to ninth-ranked Georgia (45-11) in its second game of the Women's College World Series held at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla. With the loss, Missouri is the first school eliminated from the tournament, finishing eighth in its fourth WCWS appearance.
