LATEST STORIES FROM TOTAL TITANS

Welcome to the new, temporary (probably) home of Total Titans.  All posts from MVN’s reboot in December 2006 through mid-October 2009 should be uploaded, including comments.  Links, particularly those to previous posts, are likely to be broken, and images are almost certainly missing.  Posts since mid-October 2009 are currently being important sans comments; if anybody [...]

Yesterday, Andrew got the offseason ball rolling by penning a review of the rollercoaster ride also known as the 2009 Tennessee Titans’ 8-8 season.
Continuing down the seemingly endless path of the offseason, today I’ll take a look at the performances of the Titans’ most recent draftees during their rookie years.
A first-year review of [...]

Four AFC teams finished the 2009 regular season with 9-7 records. Two of them, the Ravens and Jets, will move on to postseason play. The other two, the Steelers and Texans, are out of the playoff race after losing tiebreakers.
With just one more win, the 8-8 Tennessee Titans could have joined that group at 9-7. [...]

Chris Johnson seeks to make NFL history. Photo by Andrew Strickert for Total Titans
I thought I’d take a final look at the Seahawks defense before today’s Tennessee Titans – Seattle Seahawks game and in particular, compare some of their stats with Chris Johnson’s.
First, the Seahawks have, by most measurements, an average, or slightly above average rushing defense. Seattle is 14th against the run in yards per game and [...]

Total Titans/The Patriot Act Q&A
In this week's Q&A exchange, I corresponded with Brent of MVN's The Patriot Act. Naturally, we spent some time chatting about "The Golden Boy" a.k.a. Tom Brady, the Titans' miserable 0-5 start and the Vince Young/Kerry Collins QB conundrum. We also touched on our early impressions of each team's 2009 draft class. Our interesting and hopefully entertaining exchange of questions...

Rod Hood to the rescue? Titans sign veteran CB
In desperate need of depth in a porous secondary that's already
facing life without Nick Harper, Vincent Fuller and possibly (once
again) Cortland Finnegan, the Tennessee Titans signed veteran CB
Roderick Hood earlier today.
Hood is a seven-year vet who once snagged an impressive 5 interceptions for 196 yards and 2 scores during the 2007 season.

Titans' decline reflected in fantasy football too
Please pardon our mess while the site is undergoing maintenance.
Â
The decline of the Titans' defense, which was ranked second in points allowed last season, is sad. After five games this year, they're 29th in the league, ahead of only the Bucs, Rams and Lions.
Â
Their decline is also reflected in fantasy football. In my one league, they were dumped after four games and nobodyÂ...

Titans/Patriots Q&A
This weekend, the Tennessee Titans will be in search of their first win of the season against a very formidable foe: Tom Brady's New England Patriots. Per the norm, we'll be conducting a question/answer exchange with a blogger/writer who muses about the Titans' next opponent. Feel free to post any questions that you have regarding this week's Titans/Patriots matchup...

Why are the Tennessee Titans 0-5? It's Jeff Fisher's fault, folks
Jeff Fisher has earned the right to be considered as one of the league's best head coaches. He usually gets the most out of his teams, regardless of their talent level. Unfortunately, Fisher hasn't been able to get anything from the '09 Titans, besides losses. Much of the blame for the Titans' struggles this year has been aimed in multiple directions. Some attribute...

Titans fall to Colts to drop to 0-5
Following an 0-4 start, the Titans were facing perhaps their last sliver of hope as they hosted the unbeaten Colts on Sunday Night Football. For the fifth time this season, though, the Colts ended a game with a victory, while the Titans ended the game with a loss, in this case by the final tally of 31-9. For a detailed description of the game as it happened, check out the liveblog...

Does Jeff Fisher have confidence in Vince Young?
Drexel recently wrote about the possibility of benching Kerry Collins and the benefits of starting Vince Young. Thanks to all of you who joined in the discussion which followed.
Â
Now I'll play devil's advocate and take the other side of that argument, one reason why Jeff Fisher won't bench Collins in favor of Young. At least not yet. Maybe after the Titans are 0-6 entering their bye...

Total Titans answers questions from a Colts blogger
I posted yesterday the answers I received from Deshawn Zombie of 18 To 88 as to my questions about the Colts. Now, it's my turn to answer his questions.18 To 88: What has happened to the Titans secondary?  How do you go from 12 TD passes in 16 games to 10 in four games?Total Titans: Well, with that kind of change, you don't see just one thing go wrong.  The first big problem...

Sky's the limit for Kenny Britt
From Kerry Collins' struggles to the poor play of the defense, the adversities surrounding the 0-4 Tennessee Titans have received the majority of attention and rightfully so. Lost amid the negative headlines has been the emergence of first-year wide receiver Kenny Britt. One of the lone bright spots on this year's surprisingly inept Titan team, Britt is leading all NFL rookies in...

Total Titans' questions about the Colts
Thanks again to go Deshawn Zombie of 18 To 88 for answering our questions about the Colts. Check out his site for insight about the Colts, both leading up to Sunday's game and after that. This post is his answers to my questions. Check back tomorrow for my answers to his questions.Total Titans: What's been the impact of the coaching changes, both with Caldwell at head coach...

Tennessee Titans vs Indianapolis Colts preview
Things don't look good for the 0-4 Tennessee Titans this week. The division-leading 4-0 Colts will try to extend their lead over Tennessee to five games, which would make it virtually impossible for the Titans to catch them.
Â
Colts quarterback Peyton Manning is red hot and will face a secondary which has been reeling. Manning has passed for over 300 yards in four consecutive games...

Ask a Colts blogger
As we did for the first regular season game last year, we'll be doing a Q&A with Deshawn Zombie of the excellent Colts blog 18 to 88. If you have a question you'd like me to ask, post it here.

Which Titans unit will stink it up next?
The first three weeks of the season were frustrating for the Titans, not to mention their fans. All three weeks, Tennessee had a fourth-quarter lead but couldn't close the deal. All three games were defeats snatched from the jaws of victory.
Â
Each week, a different phase of the game - offense, defense or special teams - stunk it up and was a primary contributor to the defeat...

Titans get spanked by Jags 37-17
Another week, another loss for the 2009 Tennessee Titans.
Jeff Fisher's boys were undone by yet another shoddy defensive effort in their 37-17 loss to the Jaguars. David Garrard lit up Chuck Cecil's troops for 323 passing yards while tossing three touchdowns.
As for the Titans' offense, they didn't show up until late in the second half, when the team finally started matriculating...

How you fail on 15 straight pass plays
With 11:34 to go in the third quarter last Sunday's game against the Jets, Kerry Collins threw a 9 yard touchdown pass to Nate Washington to stake the Titans to a 17-14 lead. The Titans would call 15 more pass plays the rest of the game, but not a single one of them would be complete-13 would be officially listed as incompletions, of which 12 would fall harmlessly to the ground...

Titans fans, ask a Jaguars blogger your questions
As usual, we're doing another question and answer exchange this week with a blogger from the other side. This week, Nate Bruce of Teal Power will be the man representing the Jaguars point of view.
Â
One question I'll be asking is about the Jags' change to a 3-4 defense. With the amount of turnover on the Jacksonville roster this year, I might also ask about that. Perhaps a...

Titans make roster moves, re-sign Mark Jones
The Tennessee Titans have re-signed return specialist Mark Jones, Jonathan Hutton reports. The Titans also signed former Bengals and Saints safety Kevin Kaesviharn, reports Gary Estwick.
Â
To make room for them on the roster, Craig Hentrich was placed on Injured Reserve and RB Chris Henry was released.
Â
Also, former Titans CB Cary Williams was signed to the practice squad.

The Titans now have no depth at corner
On several occasions this summer, we discussed the lack of depth in the Titans'Â secondary. The starters were fine, we felt, but that was before the Texans game. They did reaffirm our faith in them, mostly, on Sunday, despite the loss to the Jets.
Â
Besides losing the game Sunday, the Titans also lost two key members of their secondary, Cortland Finnegan and Vincent Fuller, so...

Titans' struggles continue with 24-17 loss to the Jets
Turnovers and an all-around inconsistent performance doomed the Tennessee Titans as they fell to sole possession of last place in the AFC South with their 24-17 loss to the New York Jets.Rookie CB/KR/PR Ryan Mouton's nightmarish day consisted of two muffed kicks that led to 14 Jets points. Meanwhile, at the opposite end of the NFL-tenure spectrum, veteran QB Kerry Collins ended...
