Projecting the Arizona Diamondbacks Starting Rotation
Two weeks into spring training and this much we know, the Arizona Diamondbacks starting rotation doesn't look very good as a whole. There are a few bright spots, but there isn't much competing for a job in the rotation. Some of the starters performances look more like a fight to be released or moved to the bullpen.
After two weeks, here is how I project the starting rotation...

Looking for Positives in Dbacks Spring
If you look at the standings, the Arizona Diamondbacks are the worst team in the Cactus League and tied for the worst in baseball with the Houston Astros with a record of 5-12. How much you read into that is up to you, but I will tell you what, past history has taught this whatever the Dbacks do in the spring pretty much translates to regular season results.
Please don't sit...

Time to Vote for All-Division World Series
It's an all East division championship, AL vs NL in Fansided's All-Division Championship. Apparently the NL West did the worst of them all, even though personally I think they have the best pitching overall in baseball.
The NL West only garnered 8% of the total vote. Not good. Not good at all. Then again, I'm not too surprised. Don't worry, the division...

Salt River Fields Both Fan Friendly and Challenging for Some
So I took in my first Arizona Diamondbacks game at Salt River Fields this past Friday, the spring home of the Dbacks and Colorado Rockies. As with most other places, it does have its pros and cons.
Forget the fact that I saw part of a Dbacks loss to the San Diego Padres (I only lasted 3 innings with my three year old son). The results aren't...

Dbacks Fans Need Not Worry if it’s Still March
Yeah easy for me to say, easy for all of us to say. I love how the Arizona Diamondbacks struggle through the first 10 days of Spring Training and all anyone can say is that it is just March. Who are you kidding?
At some point you have to play well enough to make believers out of people and that starts in March. I don't like the saying that it is just Spring Training. It...

By God, Jesus Does in Diamondbacks
Leave it to the powers that be above to ruin a perfectly good win opportunity for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Jesus Guzman (at least that is the assumed last name he took today) hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth for the San Diego Padres to beat the Dbacks 4-3 in Peoria earlier today. They face each other again tomorrow in Scottsdale.
Ok, so maybe it wasn’t...

Diamondbacks Preview With Cardinal70.Com
Hey everyone, I’ve done yet another preview of this year’s Arizona Diamondbacks. Daniel Shoptaw from cardinal70.com has put up the questions and answers from our interview on his blog. It is titled “Playing Pepper 2011: Arizona Diamondbacks”. Just click the link to find out more about what I had to say.

Diamondbacks Lose Another Close One
So is this the theme of the spring? Lose but lose close? Well, close or not close, a loss is still a loss. Only winning changes an attitude 100%. if not for a 9th inning comeback yesterday, the Arizona Diamondbacks would be 0-4 in Cactus League play. Instead they are 1-3 after losing 6-5 to the Colorado Rockies at Salt River Fields today.
You can’t expect the Dbacks to...

Diamondbacks Have Wild Weekend
No need to panic, not even anywhere close, but if you listen to Arizona Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson after yesterday's loss to the Colorado Rockies, it sounds as if there is still some attitude adjusting to be done in the clubhouse, at least that was what was inferred. Not sure that's what I wanted to hear after just two games and just under two weeks...

Arizona Diamondbacks: Projecting the Outfield
The Arizona Diamondbacks outfield this season has speedsters, hitters, and power. It is probably the most balanced part of the lineup, both from the starting lineup and the bench.
With Spring Training under way, I take a look at what I project the outfield roster will look like come April 1st.
Chris Young, Justin Upton, Xavier Nady are the most likely starters. Also in the mix...

NL West is the Best
If you are an Arizona Diamondbacks fan, then you must agree, the NL West is the BEST! Of course that is so because it is the only division the Dbacks can win. All this week at Call to the Pen on Fansided, we are pitting the NL's best rosters against each other in a race for the best divisional roster in all of baseball.
Each of the three rosters do have some great players...

Diamondbacks Start 2011 Same as They Ended 2010

Not exactly an earth shattering result, however the Arizona Diamondbacks started out the 2011 Spring Training schedule with a 7-6 loss to the San Francisco Giants in Scottsdale on Friday afternoon. They start right where they left off, with an "L" in the loss column, only this one thankfully doesn't count.
Both starters were tagged...

As the Arizona Diamondbacks are ready to play their first Spring Training game tomorrow against the San Francisco Giants, let's take my projected look at the opening day roster as it pertains to the infield. I know this is as about as exciting as the Lindsay Lohan jewelery debacle, so stay with me!

New Faces Help Change Attitude
The new faces of the Arizona Diamondbacks, and there are many of them, were meant to be added to help change the attitude of the clubhouse and overall play out on the field. The Dbacks didn't go out and get the overall best guys available, but may have picked up some of the more respected veterans in the game.
Melvin Mora, Geoff Blum, Henry Blanco...

Miranda Will Get His Shot at First, but May Not be Only One
When the Arizona Diamondbacks acquired Juan Miranda in the off-season from the New York Yankees, he immediately was given the keys to the first base starting job. This spring though, you may see a couple of others take a crack at the job as well.
Miranda, with his time short in the major leagues so far, comes highly touted. He has all of 83 at...

Diamondbacks to Play Tucson Charity Game
The Arizona Diamondbacks will play the Chicago White Sox on Monday March 7th at 1:05 pm at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium, formerly known as Tucson Electric Park, in a charity game that will benefit the Christina-Taylor Green Memorial Fund. Green was the youngest victim of the Tucson shootings last month, tragically killed at the age of 9.

Diamondbacks Still Bringing in Players, Sign Branyan to Minor League Deal
So the Arizona Diamondbacks seem intent on finding every free agent who used to be worth something into the mix as they take a look at how their roster will fill out for the 2011 season. Today, according to Sports Illustrated, they signed Russell Branyan to a minor league contract.
Branyan hit 25 homers last season but also only hit .237. Sounds...

I've submitted what is sure to be one of several Arizona Diamondbacks previews heading into the season, as Spring Training is here once again. The first preview I did is with Razzball.com, which is a Fantasy Baseball Preview.
I provide my opinion on players such as Brandon Allen, Clay Zavada, Ian Kennedy, and Justin Upton amongst others. It is a very fascinating site and...

Johnson Back in the Fold

Kelly Johnson that is. Johnson, the starting second baseman for the Arizona Diamondbacks, avoided arbitration today and signed a one-year contract. Thank goodness. We are going to need his power!
Johnson, who hit an amazing 26 homers in 2010, was the key to retaining what little power the Dbacks had left in their lineup. Take him out,...

Diamondbacks Have Nothing on the Pythagorean Theorem
They say there are dozens of way to prove the Pythagorean Theorem. Last season, there was little the Arizona Diamondbacks proved on the field to show they were ready to compete in a day in day out basis. With the changes made in the off-season, there is proof the Dbacks are trying to improve, however we still may not have all the answers even at the end...
