Light up a cigar, for ol' times' sake

Oh ye gods… That was a crushing. I don't think I've seen the Lakers so thoroughly beaten all season. Definitely a worthy final game for the Celtics for this season. Today, they crowned themselves. Today, they looked qualified to be NBA champions.

Stu Jackson apologizes to LA

In what was considered by all and sundry to be a surprise move by the NBA League office of Basketball Operations, Stu Jackson issued an apology to the Los Angeles Lakers over the huge disparity in free throw attempts in game 2 of the NBA Finals at the TD Banknorth Garden at a post game interview with media.

Chuck Norris says LA in 5

Just the other day, my *cough-cough* learned *cough-cough* basketball-fan-colleague Rob stated: "The Eternal Battle of Good and Evil… Otherwise known as the Celtics and Lakers go at it again! In case you hadn't guessed, I'm dressing the Celtics in the white hero hats…" If that's the analogy you wish to pursue, fine. I guess that puts the Lakers in black.

Vote 4 Ronny, NOW!

Upside and Motor, the NBA blog are running a campaign to get Ronny Turiaf as the Yellow Book Lakers player-cam player for TNT's interwebby coverage of game 3 between the Lakers & the Spurs. Great idea.

Heart's racing - Lakers out of the FIRE

Sheesh? Holy down-to-the-wire, Batman! Prior to the game's beginning, if you told me that the end result would have both teams scoring under 90, then asked me who would be the winner, I would tell you the Spurs. But the 89-85 scoreline went the other way. 'Twas the Lakers who'd run out winners in the end.

What the hell's happened to Boston?

Cleveland 88 - Boston 77 Ok, tell me. What's going on with the Celtics? Seems that every time they pull on the green, they fold faster than me playing poker. It's gotten almost that bad.

LeBron James: Happy Mother's Day Mom!

Ouch. Simply ouch. Clearly, we see LeBron say to the woman in the striped shirt, "Sit your ass down!" That woman is Gloria James, LeBron's mother.

Smooth

Perhaps the best adjective I can give to the way Detroit have played throughout the Eastern Conference semi-finals. Every other 'contender' has struggled mightily at times. The Lakers couldn't close out the Jazz, even when the opportunity was there. The Spurs looked absolutely lost in game 5, and down 2-3 face elimination. And Boston's road woes have everyone believing...

NBA Blah-blah-blah With Malice

Unbelievable. D'Antoni at the Knicks. Guess money was the over-riding factor in that decision, huh? Rick Carlisle at Dallas… and Avery Johnson will get a job - somewhere. Have 2 days of basketball to talk about… so let's get on with it...

When is Enough, Enough?

You really have to feel for the Denver Nuggets franchise. Despite putting up the third largest combined salary in the NBA, they were the only team swept out of the first round. Denver owner E. Stanley Kroenke has never shied from spending his cash to make improvements on the roster? but either he's getting some very bad information on those roster decisions, or he's guilty of...

Sun-Blinded

No way in hell. Ok, getting a bit ahead of myself there, perhaps a brief explanation is necessary. As reported all around the internet, Jack McCallum has D'Antoni done and already riding off into the setting sun… and Blogfrica is split on whether that's a good or a bad thing. Does D'Antoni deserve to go?

Failed Experiments?

First round of the playoffs are done, and given their first round exit Dallas has to be wondering what they have to do to get back to being a top-flight unit. Whilst Phoenix managed to be competitive against the Spurs, it was evident that they cannot beat San Antonio in a close game.

Phil Speaks, We Listen With Malice

Well… Kobe Bryant is on the brink. On the brink of getting further in a playoff series than Shaquille O'Neal. Congratulations to Byron Scott - Coach of the Year… And congratulations to Hedo Turkoglu, named Most Improved player for the NBA.

NBA Blah Blah Blah With Malice

Pretty hard to work out patterns in the playoff series thus far. I get why teams up 2-0 or 3-0 lose a game, especially away… but pretty hard to foresee Detroit falling into a 1-2 hole before today's game.

Err… Huh? NBA Confusion With Malice

What the… I turn away from the PC/TV area for one minute, and Boston lose? To Atlanta? Ok, well… it might have been longer than a minute. Just. But it felt like a minute. Did I slip, hit my head and enter an alternate reality?

Down & Out in Enver

Wow… LA goes to Denver, and toasts the Denver Nuggets in their own house 108-84. I'm not going to review the game in any depth - there are loads of places you can do that, just going to talk about the Nuggs a lil'.

TailRank

There are one hundred and forty eight days before the XXIX Olympiad begins - in Beijing, China. And yet the situation in Tibet has probably never been worse. It’s a somber Jaques Rogge these days. He made comments to Associated Press that he was engaged in “silent diplomacy” with t...

NBA Crap With Malice

Anyone else surprised by the total failure of some teams to bring their 'A' game to the finals? Not talking about Atlanta - no-one expected them to do much against Boston - but teams like Houston & Dallas are really, really behind the 8-ball…

NBA Grumblings With Malice

Well… so much for those huge trades mid-season for the Suns & Mavs… not working out so well at the mo', huh (currently penning a piece on that)? And the Raptors nearly pulled one out of the hat, but it was not to be…

Conclusions in Confusion

We Rite Goode are hosting the final round of blogger voting for NBA Awards, and it promises to be a good 'un. I certainly am looking forward to what people think is 'so' (they added a few categories for votes too - thus the expanded format). If you're interested, and you should be - We Rite Goode have the blogger final say on the matter up… Anyway, on with what I...

A Wrap Up With Malice…

Please. You want to give the MVP award to Chris Paul? After the collapse right at the end of the season, losing 3 outta 4, when one of the main arguments for giving it to him was that he lead the Hornets to the very top of the Western Conference? Ok, they were second, and it's still an argument that might hold water if there wasn't another candidate with a team that has...

NBA Mouthings With Malice…

Well, most went to plan within round 1 of the NBA playoffs. Most… So much for quite a few people telling me that Detroit will beat Boston in the Conference Finals. Might still happen, but but the Pistons need to focus on beating Philadelphia first.

2 Innings + 66 Runs = 1 Capitulation

Japanese high school baseball isn't always even-keeled, and many inequities exist between some of the top schools, and their opponents who are sometimes bereft of the benefits the elite 'yakyu gakko' possess… but this is bordering on ridiculous.

Come Right Out and SAY IT!

Ok. NBA Playoffs are about to start, so time to put my prognostication skills to the test, and tell you who's going to do what, and to whom.

Ok. Playoffs are about to start, so time to put my prognostication skills to the test, and tell you who's going to do what, and to whom. Easy first - let's head East. (1) Boston vs (8 ) Atlanta David, meet Goliath. Goliath? Play nice please, and no decapitations. All kidding aside, it's going [...
