Jeter moving down in lineup “not even an option”
Via Marc Carig, if the Yanks decide to move Derek Jeter down in the lineup it won’t be out of the top three spots. Kevin Long said that Jeet moving out of the upper third of the batting order is, as the headline suggests, “not even an option.”

PERFECT GAME!!
OK, it wasn’t an official perfect game but AJ Burnett tossed three perfect innings. He threw 45 pitches with 30 going for strikes as the Yanks bested the Phightin’ Phils 7-1 in a split squad game this afternoon. He got five ground outs, three fly balls and a K.

Colon, ManBan steal the show
The Yanks fell to the Red Sox, 5-3, tonight, but the story of the game was the pitching.
Bartolo Colon was impressive as hell, as he threw 42 pitches with 35 going for strikes. He maxed out at 93 mph and was consistently in the 89-to-low-90s range. The 37-year-old tossed three scoreless innings, fanned five and allowed two hits. I know it’s early in Spring Training, but this fatso...

Down goes Cervelli
The Yanks announced today that Francisco Cervelli has a fractured bone in his left foot and will be in a boot for a least four weeks. Cervelli, a Yanks Go Yard favorite, injured the foot when he fouled a ball off it in Wednesday’s game; he stayed in but was eventually lifted an inning later. Odds are he will miss about a month and a half with the injury.

Good AJ makes cameo + notes
AJ Burnett threw 21 pitches — 15 for strikes and no back-to-back balls — in today’s 6-5 win over the Astros. He went two scoreless innings and gave up a pair of hits with one strikeout. Most importantly, he built up some confidence.

Baseball is back!!!!
The Yanks dropped their Spring Training opener to the Phils, 5-4, this afternoon…but who cares? BASEBALL IS BACK!!! Granted the starters only played about four innings and it was painful to watch at times, but baseball is baseball.

Carpenter wouldn’t block trade
Although Ken Rosenthal says that the chances of a trade are slim, Chris Carpenter, 36 in April, said he wouldn’t block a move if the Cardinals tried to get rid of him.

Mo throws his first bullpen
The Great Mariano threw his first bullpen session of the spring today, tossing about 30 pitches while focusing on location.
It doesn’t have to be hard. Just find the location, and once you do that, start working on adding more speed to the ball. I did that and it was good today.
Mo will keep throwing bullpens for a while, then throw a live bullpen session or two prior to appearing...

Hank fails in attempt to cover his tracks
After Derek Jeter played it cool and laughed off Hank Steinbrenner’s “too busy building mansions” insult from Monday, Hank tried to backtrack and say it was simply a euphemism.
It was a euphemism, that’s all it was. It was a generalization, a euphemism. Bad choice of a euphemism, but it was a euphemism. That’s all it was.

Kevin Millwood has a lot of balls
Kevin Millwood rejected the Yankees’ offer for a non-guarenteed minor league deal today. The 36-year-old Millwood wants a guaranteed major league deal, as opposed to having to earn the fourth or fifth spot in the rotation. Pinstripes may not be as slimming as once thought
As reported earlier, Joba Chamberlain arrived at Spring Training looking heavier. He claims that he’s in the best shape that he’s been in in a couple of years, which may very well be true as reporters have said he looks bigger only in the chest and shoulders, but, even if that’s not the case, does it matter?

The Yanks released their first player this spring, as lefty reliever Neal Cotts bit the dust. Cashman says the decision came based on Cotts’ physical from Monday and had nothing to do with performance.
Also from that article: Joba’s fat, but there’s “no beer gut.” I wouldn’t expect there to be a beer gut, Joba’s a Crown Royal man.

Boras claims two more Yankees
According to Joel Sherman, Swish Dog is set to hire Scott Boras as his agent. He is ditching long-time agent Joe Bick for Scotty. This makes the second Yankee that has inked with Boras in the past week, as RBInson Cano did the same thing last Saturday.
