If there’s one thing I’ve learned from watching the Jaws movie series, it’s that unless you’re Roy Scheider, which I am not, great white sharks are not to be trifled with. I mean, just look at that picture–no natural enemies, a mouth full of razor sharp teeth, and the ability to fly. Which is why surfer Michael Bedford should consider himself the luckiest man on the face of the Earth, after he took on a great white shark off the western coast of Australia, armed only with his wits, fists and gigantic balls of steel…and won. Witnesses watched in horror as Bedford was knocked from his board by the great white, then came back for a second charge. Bedford, though, had other plans. He threw down fisticuffs with the shark as it attacked, then rode a passing wave to shore.
