BOWLING GREEN FALCONS NEWS

Hurley: "I felt like I really didn't have shot."

Trent Hurley has found a home.  He's transferring to the University of Delaware.  Southeast Missouri was the expected destination, but that was because Dayne Crist was considering Delaware, but when he went to Kansas, Hurley went to Delaware, which he had visited during his original recruiting. He had some things to say about Bowling Green.Trent Hurley said his Bowling Green coachesâ€...

Defense in Review, sacks

One last stop on the review of the defense....sacks. Did BG do a better job of getting to the QB in 2010 than it did in 2011? BG did have Chris Jones, MAC's #2 sack man, and went from 13 sacks in 2010 to 15 in 2011. That moved the Falcons from a tie for 7th to sole possession of 7th. Stats don't always tell the whole story and here it isn't really even close. A true...

All-MAC Teams and Awards Announced....

The All-MAC teams and awards were announced. I thought our Falcons had a good day, and I don't personally notice anything that I think is an oversight as it relates to BG.The headline is that Anthon Samuel was the Freshman of the Year, which is a great honor for him and our program. When we did the MAC Roundtable last week, I noted he was the only Freshman near the top in a...

Season Ends on Victory...

No one wants to play in a game where a 4-7 team and a 3-8 team do battle for the ability to move into the off-season on a winning note...those stakes are not high even for your most casual fan. As such, there is only one thing worse than winning a game like that...and that would be to lose it.Which our Falcons did not do. It was not always pretty, but in the end, on that Saturday...

Bowling Green 42, Buffalo 28

Matt Schilz threw for four touchdowns to help Bowling Green rally and beat Buffalo 42-28 Saturday in the season finale for both teams. Schilz gave Bowling Green (5-7, 3-5 Mid-American Conference) a 21-20 lead on his 19-yard strike to Eugene Cooper with 23 seconds remaining in the first half. The Falcons then took a commanding 35-20 lead behind touchdown runs by John Pettigrew and...

First Book of Samuel

Just a quick note on Anthon Samuel, who is (relatively) quietly have a pretty special year for the Falcons. He currently has 704 rushing in 7 games. With 4 games left, he is on pace to reach 1,000 yards. It would only be the 11th 1,000 yard season in the program's history, which always surprises me. He would be only the 8th back to reach it. (Miles, Saleet, Preston, Durig...

The Absolute Worst Player Of College Football Week 8- Jamel Martin

Jamel Martin is the backup Freshman Running Back for the Bowling Green Falcons. The feature back Anthon Samuel has been stellar, rushing for over 100 yards 5 times this year, and has easily sealed the starting job over Martin. But in Week 5 Samuel got hurt, and Martin stole the spotlight, rushing for 111 yards on 23 carries. Before Week 5 Martin had 10 total carries for 50 yards...

Leather Helmet Football FTW

It was apparently throwback day at the Doyt yesterday, as the Falcons hosted Temple with the Falcons riding a 3-game losing streak. Temple boasts a very good defense, allowing the second fewest points in FBS, and I don't mind telling you that I feared this wasn't a very good match up for us. I was incredibly proud of how the team played and this was a huge win for the...

Temple vs. Bowling Green: BlogSwap

This week, the 5-2 Temple Owls head to Bowling Green, Ohio, to take on the 3-4 Bowling Green Falcons. We got in contact with the fine folks over at FalconBlog to discuss Saturday's game, the first of two straight on the road for the MAC East division-leading Owls. Temple is 0-4 all-time at Bowling Green, but this year Temple comes in as a heavy favorite to win their third straight...

John Wagner is at Waldo, and reports that the following 3 Falcons are not dressed...the players who are NOT in uniform are the players we expected ... senior FB Zach Akenberger, senior rover Keith Morgan and sophomore nose guard Ted Ouellet.Which means that Samuel, Chip Robinson, and Cam Truss are in uniform for the game.He also notes that DJ Lynch will now be #7, so he switches...

Blade on BG injuries heading to Kalamazoo.....

The Falcon Fodder at the Blade had this injury report for BG...bottom line, we are down a couple of defenders who played on a bunch of snaps, and ass as possibly Hopgood and Dunlap.INJURY UPDATE: The Falcons lost a pair of key defensive players during the West Virginia game as nose guard Ted Ouellet suffered a stinger for the second consecutive week, while rover Keith Morgan suffered...

Falcons Run Over in the Rain

It was a cold and rainy day in Morgantown Saturday, and it was a metaphor for the Falcons, as West Virginia completely dominated BG. West Virginia was the better team to start with and then BG helped them out a little bit along the way.On the bright side, we could be the Minnesota Gophers, who lost worse in a conference game.I am not going to go through my normal look at the flow...

Bowling Green a step slow in loss to No. 22 WVU

Bowling Green's offense couldn't find a rhythm and quarterback Matt Schilz spent more time scrambling than finding receivers. With Schilz unable to thrive, the Mid-American Conference's highest-scoring offense came to a halt at No. 22 West Virginia, losing 55-10 on Saturday. And when West Virginia freshman running back Dustin Garrison got into a groove, Bowling Green...

Bowling Green-WVU game features 2 prolific passers

Scheduling a nonconference game with Bowling Green was supposed to give No. 22 West Virginia a buffer between a grueling contest against LSU and the start of the Big East schedule. Instead, the Mountaineers (3-1) will face a Falcons team on Saturday that features the Mid-American Conference's highest-scoring offense. The third-ever meeting between the schools will showcase...

Redhawk Recap

Still very pleased with the victory yesterday...the stats were a lot more even than I thought, but once we get through with this, I think we'll see that this is a game we might not have won last year, and some of the things we were able to do were built on the way Coach Clawson has built this program.BG went 3-out with a sack to start the game, but then Dwayne Woods intercepted...

Wyoming 28, Bowling Green 27

Bowling Green kicker Kyle Burkhardt missed a late game-tying extra point as Wyoming held on to win 28-27 on Saturday. Trailing 28-14 late in the fourth quarter, Bowling Green's Matt Schilz threw touchdown passes on two consecutive drives. The first, a 32-yard strike to Kamar Jorden, and the second, to Ray Huston for 10 yards, drew the Falcons (2-1) within one. But Burkhardt...

Chris Jones MAC East Defensive POTW

Chris Jones is getting props for his big night in Idaho...he is truly a force that has to be dealt with on the line. While Jones had just three tackles in the 32-15 win at Idaho, he made the most of all three opportunities. The junior had three tackles for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble as the Falcons held Idaho to just 280 yards of total offense and 2-of-12 on third downs.

Schilz found Cooper for scoring passes of 76 and 24 yards to lift the Falcons to a 14-7 lead. The Vandals had scored first on Brian Reader's 5-yard TD pass to Mike LaGrone. Anthony Samuel...
