History 101: 1982 Cal – Stanford ‘the play’
The 1982 Stanford – Cal game had arguably the craziest ending in college football history. Stanford was led by quarterback John Elway and took a 20-19 lead with only four seconds remaining. The game was over. On the ensuing kickoff Cal’s Kevin Moen fielded the squib kick before pitching the football to avoid being tackled. Four laterals later

2010 NFL Draft Recap: 3 Golden Bears Drafted
I know I'm about a week and a half behind, but I need to re-cap the 2010 NFL Draft for our Golden Bears. The 2010 NFL Draft included 3 Golden Bears, and 2 of them heard their names called in the first round. The surprise of the draft undoubtedly was the 10th overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Cal's DE Tyson Alualu. Do disrespect to Tyson, but nobody had him going...

Mock Draft Explanation: Tyson Alualu to the Colts
Every year there are two or three players chose in the 1st-round that don’t have a consensus 1st-round grade. Typically these players are selected by championship-caliber teams that have only one or two holes to fill and chose to do so through the draft.
This year, the Colts are one of those teams that could reach [...]

Top 11 reasons why the coaches preseason poll is significant for Cal football
The preseason polls are kind of silly, since they are based on nothing at all. Well, you could claim they are based on the expertise of coaches or media members, but they base their opinions on whatever magazines they happen to read and whatever people tell them. But those are all based on last year’s [...]

Texas lands in the Holiday Bowl against Cal
Since 2000, the Texas Longhorns football team has made a home away from home in San Diego in late December.
Most recently, Texas faced off against the Arizona Sun Devils in the 2007 edition of the game, leaving San Diego with a 52-34 victory. Mack Brown’s team also made the trip to Cali in 2000, 2001, and 2003.
This time around Texas’ opponent will be the California...

Best runs 4.35 40 yard dash at NFL Combine, helps stock
From MSNBC:
Jahvid Best, California RB — stock upHe might have moved from the bottom of round 2/top of round 3 to the top of round 2 with a very nice workout, including a 4.35 40. He’s a love him or hate him type of player. Some think he’s no better than a No. 2 back and kick returner. But the scouts who think he’s more than that like him more than ever now...

BEAVERS STEAMROLL BEARS
Gameday in Corvallis
This series is supported by Muscle Milk
It's been an up and down season for the California Golden Bears, as they are 4-0 at home in Memorial Stadium but 0-3 on the road. The trek to Corvallis to see the Golden Bears take on Oregon State at Reser Stadium on Saturday would either continue the trend of bad road performances or jump-start a positive second half of this season...

Cal freshman receiver Keenan Allen can do anything better than you can. Yes, he can.
Any self-respecting sports writer knows it’s an act of idiocy to proclaim anyone a star after one game, exspecially when the opponent is a Division I-AA schoool. Well, we have have no self-respect and we are proud of our idiocy, so we are going to dub Cal Golden Bears freshman wide receiver Keenan Allen a star. Granted, [...]

California, can you say top-25?
Last week I wondered if California could beat up on a BCS conference team. This week I got my question answered in the form of a 52-7 victory Saturday afternoon.
Cal dominated the game in all phases. There were times towards the end of the first half where I felt they got complacent. But the defense put me in my place by creating a turnover and taking it the distance.
This was a...

Shane Vereen Carries Cal To Victory
California 34, Stanford 28. Cal running back Shane Vereen may never be mistaken for the spectacular blazer he replaced in the Bears' backfield, Jahvid Best, or the thundering Mack truck on the opposite sideline tonight, Toby Gerhart, and may never approach the broad star power of either. But Vereen shouldered as many carries against the Cardinal (42) as any back in the country has...

Nothing can stir the discussion pot better than a Stanford vs. Cal debate, regardless of the topic. Disappointing news for all Bears fans came on Saturday, as junior tailback Jahvid Best declared his intention to leave Berkeley and enter the NFL Draft. #4 was a dynamic and electrifying player for the Bears, who all too often was on the sidelines due to injury. We Hardly Knew Ye: Jahvid Best makes tracks for the next level
Sendoffs to great players leaving campus early.
It's too soon to tell whether Jahvid Best's three-year stay at California will be remembered mainly for his spectacular play, or for its spectacularly disturbing ending, when Best crashed head-first into the end zone from at least six feet off the turf after a goal-line leap against Oregon State in November. The junior speedster confirmed...
