Illinois is the only Big Ten opponent Michigan hasn't faced yet this year. They're a weird team, blessed with two A-level stars but capable of scoring droughts spanning a quarter of the game.

Just how shaky is Illini coach Bruce Weber’s Job Security?
The Assembly Hall crowd in Champaign called for Bruce Weber’s head. Illini fans in B Section screamed “pack your bags” and “I can draw up a better offense.” This has gone on for years, except this time there was one major difference- No one in the orange and blue crowd stuck up for Bruce.
And this happened during one of this year’s signature wins...

IU v Illinois Quick Recap and Postgame Show
Indiana defeated Illinois tonight in a win that was remarkable for just how unremarkable it was.
I say this not to disrespect Illinois, but rather as a sign of respect: last year, beating a solid Illinois in a close game at home induced a court storm and a crazed Tom Crean hoo-hoo-hoosiering in the Assembly Hall lobby; this year, IU beating a solid, potential-tournament Illinois...

Illini Most Super Sophomore: Joseph Bertrand!
What a loaded and deep sophomore class the Illini were to have this year! McDonald’s All-American Jereme Richmond, consensus top 90 recruit Crandall Head, 7-footer/future NBA big Meyers Leonard and overlooked Sterling, Illinois product Joseph Bertrand.
Well, look at where we are today: Richmond caused as many headaches and issues as possible before leaving school after one...

Post-game thoughts, after the Gophers – Illini Insanity.
Between consoling myself over another hard to believe lose from ahead loss and having flashbacks to Frank Williams knocking in a last second floater to end the Gophers NCAA tournament hopes, a Minnesota team was in a must win situation, and did win, in overtime no less. I can’t begin to explain all the twists [...]

Gophers vs. Illini starts key three game stretch
A big game on a cold January Saturday night. What could be better?
This space is usually reserved for disclaimers that there is no such thing as a must win game in January and platitudes about how a season isn't over until it's over because of the automatic NCAA tournament bid awarded at the end of the Big Ten Tournament. Nope, I'm not going to do it this time. This...

The Illinois Fighting Illini will have one less guard on the bench tonight when they take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Bruce Weber announced Tuesday that sophomore guard Crandall Head, little brother of NBA veteran Luther Head has decided to leave the Illinois college basketball program.
Head was suspended for four games for the very arcane “violation of team rules”...

Game Preview: Minnesota vs. Illinois
This afternoon for lunch we went to this really cool authentic Mexican deli-type place where you could order our tacos or burritos or whatever you wanted with any one of a whole bunch of different meat choices, and I noticed that among those choices were beef tripe, beef tongue, pork stomach, and beef head. Now, I really like trying new foods - not that long ago I had wild boar...

Illinois Basketball to Scrimmage West Virginia at NATO Air Force Base in Italy
It is impressive that the Michigan State Spartans and North Carolina Tar Heels will take on each other in college basketball aboard the deck of an aircraft carrier. But don’t sell the Illinois Fighting Illini and West Virginia Mountaineers short. The two basketball teams will visit Aviano Air Base on Aug. 17 during their upcoming Italian tours.
While at the base, the Illini...

Univ Of Illinois Guard Crandall Head To Transfer: Illini Run Shooting Offense. He’s Not A Shooter
Fans of the University of Illinois men’s basketball team (and Big Ten basketball) probably remember the name Luther Head. He was an Associated Press Second-Team All-American, member of the Big Ten All-Tournament team, selected to the NCAA Final Four All-Tournament Team, and was 5th in the conference in scoring (15.9) as a senior in [...]

Meyers Leonard could decide Braggin' Rights
Frank Haith, meet Meyers Leonard. Leonard is a college hoops oddity.
It's not just that Illinois' 7-1, 245-pound sophomore big man who has to beat NBA recruiters off with a bat is good at what he does -- Leonard's block rate (10.4 percent) is 35th nationally, only a bit better than his defensive rebounding rate (24.7 percent) that's good for 48th nationally...

Big Ten Basketball: Week in Review
By Adam McGill
Player of Week: Illinois G Brandon Paul – Paul hit an amazing 8 out of 10 3-pointers in the Fighting Illini’s 79-74 upset over 5th ranked Ohio State this week. He was impossible to guard, as he not only scored an unthinkable 43 points, but he also added 4 blocks on the defense side of the ball.Paul hit the go-ahead perimeter shot with only 43 seconds left and...

Illinois wakes up on top of Big 10, heads to PSU
(Eds: With AP Photos.) By DAVID MERCER Associated Press Illinois coach Bruce Weber and his team woke up in a place not many expected them to be - alone in first place in the Big Ten.
Michigan's win over Michigan State on Tuesday night left the 22nd-ranked Illini (15-3, 4-1) as the only team in the conference with just one league loss. Illinois also moved back into the Top 25...

Video: Meyers Leonard Last Second Block Saves Illinois
Meyers Leonard has grown up before Illinois fans this season, and after last night’s Illini road win in Evanston, Leonard proved to have the final say in the game. Drew Crawford for Northwestern went coast to coast in the final seconds trying to win the game for the Wildcats, but Meyers Leonard denied all faith and hope in Welsh-Ryan Arena. Leonard ended with 10 points, 8 rebounds...

Devin Langford Improving While Redshirting
At this point, the Fighting Illini basketball team is bringing in only one new player for next year, point guard Michael Orris. But there may be more help on the way in the person of Devin Langford. The Alabama product is redshirting due to multiple injuries this year, but his skill level and long-term potential are excellent.

Big Ten First Look: Illinois
This was the first item on a Google Image Search for Bruce WeberPerhaps no team in the Big 10 was hollowed out in the off-season to the degree of the Fighting Illini. 2012 Illini Hoops Most Important Player? Meyers Leonard!
Last night’s 79-51 exhibition rout of Wayne State was expected for most Illini basketball fans. The most important number of the box score is found in the game’s leading scorer, Meyers Leonard. He had 18 points, in just 16 minutes, that’s a great sign for your Illinois Fighting Illini, because they’ll really need Leonard to be good, if they’re going to be good.Leonard came...

How’s the Illini Point Guard Situation Coming Along?
Heading into this season, the Illinois Fighting Illini had some questions to answer at “the one.” Two games in, they still do. Demetri McCamey, as inconsistent and polarizing as he was, provided minutes and some sense of stability.
The situation was helped this offseason when Bradley transfer Sam Maniscalco became eligible. He provides a steady veteran hand while PG...

Maniscalco scored 24 points to help lead the Illini to a 71-62...
