Those In-And-Out Maryland Terrapins

F93dc736-4b3f-40fc-bd34-96eeb365e375
Suffice it to say that we know absolutely nothing about the Terps. One game, they can look like a balanced offense with a bend-but-don't-break defense. Other times, they look like they could easily be Clemson; full of talent and short on execution.

Do Terrapins Have Talons?

Kudos to InsideCharmCity.com for this hilarious post about Maryland Terrapins back-up-back-up QB Chris Turner, his resemblance to Napoleon Dynamite, and his rocker roots.

Maryland's ravaged defense

A Sunday morning reflection: Maryland's defense has now surrendered 119 points in three games -- nearly 40 per contest. I think that would have been the toughest part of the young season to predict since there were high hopes for the defense of new coordinator Don Brown. ...

Will Terrapins Football Recruiting Class Show Some Class?

Half of this group is from the DC-Maryland-Virginia area, which isn't known nationally as a football hotbed. A great player in this area might be a reserve in Texas, Oklahoma or Florida.

Maryland Football Beats Yet Another Ranked Team

Umd-testudo-byrd_1_
The Maryland Terrapins have been perfect at home this year. And they kept up their unlikely streak of beating ranked teams by beating University of North Carolina yesterday 17-15. So after beating 4 ranked teams this season; Clemson, Cal, and Wake Forest, they have managed to climb...

NOTHING GOOD HAPPENS AFTER MIDNIGHT

Maryland linebacker Rick Costa was arrested early Saturday in College Park and charged with one count of first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault. Coach Ralph Friedgen announced Tuesday that Costa is suspended indefinitely from all team activities, including practice...

Torrey Smith's take on the QB

D1
Here is Torrey Smith's take on Maryland quarterback Chris Turner. “From the outside looking in – with the media and fans – it might look like he’s doing a terrible job,” the wide receiver said. “More than likely it’s a lot of stuff that isn’t him,” Smith...

Penn State > Terps in Local High School Football Recruting

Ph2005090600898
Unlike Texas, Florida and California, Maryland high school athletes just can't stand to be home. And while Terrapin football has always enjoyed a decent pipeline of players from Maryland, DC, Virginia and New Jersey, that has always been the program's curse as well; the nation...

We need to save Ralph Friedgen!

Ralph Friedgen is depressing me. Please don't fire him, America.

ATH Debate: Falco & Windsor on Terrapin Football

Maryland_v_north_ff6f
So we tried something new this week, as I remember how great it was to listen to Falco and Windsor go off on Maryland sports during their run on the Around The Harbor Radio Show on WMUC. I decided to pose my two compatriots a series of questions on Maryland football, to try to get...

Maryland Football: Is it Too Soon to Panic?

My first instinct is to say no. However, I think that there might be legitimate reason for Terps fans to be worried that this year will be one of the worst in recent Maryland history. I say this not because they gave up 540+ yards to the Cal offense-- California looks like it might...

Pregame: James Madison vs. Maryland

Maryland_v_north_ff6f
Last week Maryland had a game they want to quickly forget, getting destroyed 52-13 against California after getting run over by Heisman-candidate Javhid Best. The Terps now return to College Park for their home opener against James Madison. The Maryland Terrapins (0-1) host the James...

Another Top 25 Upset: Maryland Football Dominates Cal

31684809
In a year that has already seen East Carolina upset Virginia Tech and West Virginia, the upsets have not stopped in Week 3! First we had South Florida squeezing out a win against Kansas, and then unranked Maryland controlling 3/4ths of their game versus Cal. At least these games are...

Postgame Report Card: Maryland 24, Clemson 21

Be
The word of the game is…..redemption. Maryland was in major trouble after very bad non-conference play. But the Terps showed they are not out yet. Thanks to some tremendous defensive and special teams play, Maryland pulled out a huge victory and started their ACC schedule off right...

Huge holes for Maryland runners

F5
*Maryland's offensive line is opening large holes today...as evidenced by Da'Rel Scott's 48-yard touchdown run through a hole on the right side for the first score of the day. Look for huge running numbers if MTSU can't fill those gaps. *Linebacker Adrian Moten had...

Terps defense was too drained at the end

De
Players and coaches say Maryland’s defense was tired at the end of Saturday’s game, and that their fatigue could have cost them on Middle Tennessee’s final drive. The Blue Raiders went 73 yards in eight plays in the final 1:30 to set up a 19-yard, game-winning field goal....

Nick Ferrara's busy day

Maryland field goal kicker Nick Ferrara says he has been punting for years. But the freshman had never started a college game as the punter until Saturday. Ferrara, subbing for the injured Travis Baltz, could hardly have performed better. Ferrara’s first punt traveled 61 yards...

Darrius Heyward-Bey Must Be Pissed

34289903
Screens, slants, direct snaps, something can be done to get this guy in the offense. If you're going to lose to the Virginia Cavaliers and drop to 1-1 in the conference, lose with your best players holding the ball as many times as possible, not holding donuts in the stat sheets.

Maryland Beats Cal. Are We Surprised?

Marylandx
The Terps have a bad habit of losing to teams that are below them, and beating teams that are above them. Call it the Gary Williams syndrome. Top 25 teams fear them, but they are the patron saints of BCS busters.

Are Gary Williams AND Ralph Friedgen On the Hot Seat?

Ph2005090600898
The scrutiny for Gary Williams is completely understandable, but not so much for Ralph Friedgen. The State of Maryland is no where close to being a football factory, but it is a certified basketball hotbed. The DC Metro area has produced several high school all-America basketball players...

Bad signs for Terps in 34-13 loss

42
Some bad signs: --Maryland seemed to sag in the fourth quarter -- not a good sign. In a span of less than a minute-and-a-half, Rutgers running back Joe Martinek ran for touchdowns of 29 and 61 yards to push the margin to 34-13. “We were down seven and we give up a long run...

Terps have forced zero turnovers

It's ironic that Maryland's defense -- which entered the season eager to show how aggressive it had become -- is the only ACC school that hasn't forced a turnover through two games. The coaches know this must change. They said so this week as the Terps readied for Saturday...

Two Terps linebackers were injured

Maryland LB Demetrius Hartsfield broke his hand and LB Adrian Moten suffered a thigh contusion -- more bad news for a beleaguered defense. That came on top of losing 42-32 to Wake Forest and surrendering 516 total yards. "We obviously played poorly in the first half,"...
