Craig James Accepted Money While An SMU Running Back
U.S. Senate candidate and former ESPN college football analyst Craig James said he accepted gifts from Southern Methodist University boosters when he was a star running back for the Mustangs in the early 1980s.
“It was an insignificant amount that I had when I was at SMU,” James said. “It was wrong. And I was 18, 19 years old.”
James is running for the U.S. Senate...

Padron granted release from scholarship
SMU quarterback Kyle Padron has asked and received a release from his scholarship. Padron, who began 2011 as the Mustangs' starter, was pulled just a couple series into the season opener after consecutive turnovers. Is former Texas QB Garrett Gilbert transferring to SMU?
After failing to hold onto his starting spot as Texas’ QB during the first two games of the 2011 season, it became obvious that Garrett Gilbert’s career trajectory would look much different. It was not well-known that Gilbert had suffered a tear in his throwing shoulder during the Rice game that would make him unavailable for the remainder of the 2011 season.

VID: Lee Corso drops an F-Bomb on College Gameday
Lee Corso has had a little less of a filter lately.
This morning, when trying to choose between the SMU Mustangs and the Houston Cougars, in a matchup that could have some substantial BCS implications, Corso dropped a nice little F-bomb on live TV.
As he picks up the megaphone to start the “USA” cheer for SMU, due to their red, white, and blue, he switches over...

Texas Tech-SMU can really play in this!
A reader over at Deadpsin sent in a photo of the Texas Tech Red Raiders stadium this afternoon. Let's just say they have some serious cleanup duty to do before the start tomorrow evening at 6pm. But according to school officials, the stadium should be ready. If not, the spread offense of Tech should be slowed down. Load up on the under and then watch the over hit! Because we know...

Metroplex Monday: Last Edition
It wasn't a good year for SMU and UNT. The two combined for the 2 wins, the same number of losses that TCU had on its own. SMU's only win was against a Football Championship Subdivision team, and UNT's only win was against a FCS team who is transitioning to the Bowl Championship Subdivision. Does that make UNT better?

CFI Q&A: RB Zach Line, SMU
College Football Insiders Q&A with SMU junior running back Zach Line. The Mustang rushed for 1,494 yards as a sophomore, which was good enough for 11th in the nation. Only the great Eric Dickerson has turned in a higher single-season rushing total in the history of SMU football.

I would say that this spring was...

Hawaii Promotes Defensive Coordinator to Replace June Jones
Hawaii has found a replacement for the dearly departed June Jones - defensive coordinator Greg McMackin. Seems odd that a team known for its offensive fireworks would have a defense specialist lead the Warriors. But this is the same school that let Jones slip away from paradise in the Pacific to take over the reigns at Conference USA doormat SMU.

SMU looking for BCS conference invitation
SMU wants what TCU has, and we're not talking about an iron skillet.
Oh, that piece of cookware will be prominent when the Mustangs and Horned Frogs renew their Battle for the Iron Skillet on Saturday at Amon Carter Stadium.
But what SMU really wants is national recognition and an invitation to a BCS automatic qualifier conference. TCU earned both of those last season with a Rose...
