Padron granted release from scholarship
SMU quarterback Kyle Padron has asked and received a release from his scholarship. Padron, who began 2011 as the Mustangs' starter, was pulled just a couple series into the season opener after consecutive turnovers. Padron injured his back halfway through the season and SMU was planning to use 2011 as his redshirt year. But now, he has decided to transfer.

Craig James Accepted Money While An SMU Running Back
U.S. Senate candidate and former ESPN college football analyst Craig James said he accepted gifts from Southern Methodist University boosters when he was a star running back for the Mustangs in the early 1980s.

Football. LeRibeus To Play In East-West Shrine Game
TAMPA, Fla. (SMU) - SMU's Josh LeRibeus has accepted an invitation to play in the 87th East-West Shrine Game, organizers announced today. The game will be held Jan. 21, 2012 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., kicking off at 4 p.m. EST and televised live on the NFL Network.

WANTED: A SMU kicker
SMU lost its starting kicker Chase Hover last week before the Houston game to mono. The Mustangs backup kickers are 0-3 on field goals and PATs in the last two weeks. In Saturday's game against Rice, the backups missed a field goal and an extra point that almost ended up costing SMU the game.

Padron may apply for medical redshirt
Kyle Padron suffered a herniated disc injury while lifting weights the week before the Tulsa game and is probably going to sit out the rest of the season. Because he only played a few snaps this year, he will likely apply for a medical hardship to try and get another year of eligibility. If granted, SMU will have six quarterbacks come 2013.

With Saturday's victory, the Mustangs have won their sixth game of the season and are bowl eligible for the third year in a row. J.J. McDermott fought off a handful of injuries and was able to lead SMU by completing 29 of 40 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns.
