Mike Davis and the UAB Blazers are the Conference USA outright regular season champions. That means a lot, and says a lot about the ability of Davis as a coach and a recruiter. They still may not be in the tournament however.

Football. UAB's Darion Smith Tabbed To Rimington Trophy Watch List
UAB senior center Darion Smith is one of 42 players who has been named to the Spring Watch List for the 2011 Rimington Trophy. The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the nation's top collegiate center. Smith started all 12 games in 2010 in his first season as a Blazer.

M. Basketball. Herb Harrison Signs NLI To Continue Hoops Career At UAB
UAB men's basketball head coach Mike Davis announced the addition of Herb Harrison, a 6-8, 215-pound forward, who signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) on Friday and will continue his career with the Blazers. Harrison joins Kenneth "K.C." Whitaker, who signed an NLI during the early signing period last November, as the newest additions to the men's basketball program.

Ty Long kicked a 38-yard field goal with 3:04 left to lift UAB to a 34-31 upset of No. 22 Southern Mississippi on Thursday night.

Davis Nabs NABC All-District Coach Of The Year Honors
The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has released its All-District accolades for the 2010-11 season. UAB head coach Mike Davis was honored as the District 11 Coach of the Year, while three Blazers were selected to the all-district team, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Football. Jamie Bender Named C-USA Defensive Player-of-the-Week
UAB senior safety Jamie Bender was named the Conference USA Defensive Player-of-the-Week Monday after his outstanding all-around game Saturday in the Blazers' 28-23 loss at East Carolina. Bender registered a team-high 11 tackles in the contest and one tackle for loss, while causing two fumbles and returning an interception 35 yards for a touchdown.
