Former World No. 5 and 2007 titlist Tommy Robredo converted all four break point opportunities, hit six aces and won 72 per cent of service points to beat Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 6-4, 6-2 in 74 minutes on Wednesday for a quarter-final berth at the Open de Moselle in Metz.
Robredo, the No. 7 seed at the ATP World Tour 250 indoor tennis tournament, improved to a 19-19 record on the season. His best result this year came at the SkiStar Swedish Open at Bastad (l. to Almagro) in July. Pilot Pen Tennis runner-up Istomin dropped to a 28-22 mark on the year.
