Fernando Gonzalez: Federer's Opponent in the Finals

The question we should really ask is does it even matter? Fernando Gonzalez played a spectacular match against Tommy Haas yesterday, winning in three easy sets, and advancing to his first Grand Slam final. But Andy Roddick had also been playing well. And look what Roger did to him.

Should we have any reason to believe that Federer will do the same to Gonzo, who has an 0-9 lifetime record against King Fed? I really don't think so. I know that Gonzalez has played unbelievably all tournament long, with wins over Hewitt, Blake, and Nadal, but I don't think it merits any hype until the match is over.

If Gonzalez, or anyone for that matter, can beat Federer, then, maybe, we can begin to talk. Until then, expect a beating from King Fed in the finals.

Federer may not lose a set.

The answer to your initial question is that it does not matter.
