Video: Rafael Nadal Kissed by Crazed Fan

Didn't Monica Seles once get stabbed at a tennis event? I'm not asking for Secret Service like protection for these athletes, but I don't think it would hurt to, I don't know, maybe have a couple of guys with shirts that say "Event Security".Hell, they don't even have to do anything. Just stand around the court and look tough. And is it me or does Rafael...

Rafael Nadal is a handsome man, but officials in Queens request that you please refrain from physically embracing him. Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown announced today that a Briarwood resident who ran out onto the tennis court at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Stadium last night and hugged tennis player Rafael Nadal following his U.S. Open’s [...]

US Open 2009: Nadal survives abdominal problem, compatriot’s challenge

Former world number one Rafael Nadal struggled in his third round match at the US Open on Sunday, after the Spaniard suffered an abdominal problem during the third set. Thinking that he might as well get his own treatment, Nadal’s opponent, compatriot Nicolas Almagro called for his trainers at the same time. In the end, it was Nadal who prevailed 7-5, 6-4, 6-4. During the post...

Rafael Nadal's Fist Pump: The Best in Sports

Rafael Nadal chases down a shot and smashes it down the line for the point.  We've seen it a hundred times, and we've also seen what comes after the point: the fist pump. It's a gesture that has been around for ages. Michael Jordan would pump his fist after a great dunk, Tiger famously pumps his fist and holds it after making a putt; it is one of the most recognizable celebrations...

More Questions Than Answers from the Rafael Nadal Camp

Ok, when was the last time Rafael Nadal made excuses in a press conference? I know: after his loss to Juan Martin del Potro in Miami five months ago. He played one of the worst matches I have seen him playing and seemed strangely disinvested on court. He said there was a reason for his poor play. ‘A personal one’. And what did we learn three months later? He had been playing...

Rafael Nadal: An Incredible Comeback

World #3 Rafael Nadal produced a solid performance in sending off Frenchman Gael Monflis and reach the Quarter Finals of the US Open. Nadal reached the semi-finals at Flushing Meadows last year and is now aiming to capture the U.S. Open title for the first time in his career. Monflis had the better start to the match, as he eeked out the first set in a tiebreaker, but Nadal fought...

Rafael Nadal, The Fighter is Back

There is the fight. Then there are the skills. One is a matter of commitment, a matter of consistency and a matter of definition of oneself. The other is a matter of pleasure, a matter of art and a matter of superiority. The superior gets enjoyment, while the fighter finds it a necessity. The superior is a master of his art, while the fighter is condemned by way of his unchangeable...

Nadal Set For Monflis Test

World No. 3 Rafael Nadal will take on Frenchman Gael Monflis in the 4th round of the US Open tonight. Nadal looked in good form in his last match against fellow Spaniard Nicolas Almagro, but he appeared to tear or strain his stomach muscle—an obvious concern ahead of his match with Monflis. The duo has already played each other twice this year—Monflis won their encounter in...

Rafa rolling after 4-set win over Monfils at Open

If Rafael Nadal was hurting, it didn't show. If he was vulnerable, it didn't last.

US Open '09: Rafael Nadal Plays a Perfect 'Rafa' Match Against Monfils

After a tough match against his compatriot Nicholas Almagro, where Rafael Nadal faced issues with his serve, movement and a suspect abdominal injury, many speculated about the Spaniard's chances to go deep into the only major which has eluded him so far. If his fourth-round contest against Gael Monfils is any indication, Rafael Nadal has put to rest a lot of these doubters...

U.S. Open, Day 11 Preview: Nadal and del Potro Continue Collision Course

Queens, New York—With the loss of Andy Murray on Tuesday, the bottom half of the men’s draw has been blown wide open. The potential opportunity for the four men left in Murray’s section has suddenly become a lot more plausible. You can bet however that the four remaining men would brush aside the notion that there draw has become a little easier, and the perennial “taking...

US Open Day 11: Substance Over Style

The ‘Return of the Nadalian’ (anti-matter) is one of my favorite pieces, more so because I wrote a response to its first part. The core essence of it can be described with an oxymoron, ‘Objectively Endearing’ The past couple of days have highlighted the same underlying tone in the men’s game twice—Substance over Style. Let’s look at it through the eyes of a Spaniard...
