Rafael Nadal needed 5 sets to prove that he is the new king of tennis. In the Australian Open, Rafael Nadal beat Roger Federer 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-2.

All in all, the match took 4 hours, 23 minutes for Nadal to handle Federer, marking the 3rd straight time Rafael has beaten Federer in a Grand Slam final.

In proving that mens tennis is a sport for sissys, Federer cried at the end of the match. Rumor has it, he said, "WAAAAAAAAAAAAA, I didn't catch Pete Sampras."

Pete Sampras has 14 major titles, one more than Roger Federer.

Sampras was unable to be reached for comment, because he was getting busy with his wife, Bridgette Wilson.

Nadal is currently 13-6 against Federer, including a 5-2 record in Grand Slam Finals.

Introdution to the YB world/ ramblings from the beach...

What's good everyone? Well, before I dive in and start tossing my opinions around, I figure It'd be smart to introduce myself since I don't play a mainstream sport. My name is Kyle Harrison, and I play professional Lacrosse for the New Jersey Pride (Major League Lacrosse). I went to Johns Hopkins, graduating in 2005 (as well as scooping up a National Championship that...

Greatest Tennis Match Ever?

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were both playing at the top of their games, and they turned in one of the great performances of the year. So often these "epic" matches don't live up to the hype and the media-manufactured rivalries are duds. This match was one of the rare times that reality exceeds expectations.

Poor Andy Roddick

Turned on the television the other night to watch the man in black devour another opponent on the stadium court. Poor Andy Roddick, again. If tennis is one big Sunday brunch for Roger Federer, Poor Andy Roddick is the eggs benedict. But then, who can condemn Poor Andy Roddick? He is banging his head against the Great Wall of Switzerland.

Bad Day Gets Worse: Spitzer Arrested for Scalping Courtside Tickets to Federer-Sampras Exhibition

A day after law enforcement officials said he was a client of a high-end prostitution ring, New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer compounded his troubles when he was arrested outside Madison Square Garden for scalping two court side tickets to the Roger Federer-Pete Sampras exhibition, that was to be held later that evening. The arresting officer claimed that Spitzer, in disguise, was asking...

Roger Federer’s night match outfit at the Australian Open stays with the black he and Nike used during last year’s U.S. Open (remember Darth Federer?). This time, though, they infuse it with some more color, mainly the New Blue that’s part of the Spring 2008 line. And they’ve...

Having A Fat Girlfriend Is Not Helpful When You're Losing

A few of you may have heard Rafael Nadal demolished Federer earlier this week at the French Open, cruising to an easy victory. The Mirror decided to add insult to injury and take a few shots at his fiancee, who seemingly likes to get her yum-yum on. "Poor old Fed - he offered as much resistance to Rafael Nadal during the French Open as Mirka does when the dessert trolley appears."

The Federer "brand," then and now

Believe it or not, it wasn't too long ago that Roger Federer, the world's top-ranked tennis player who this weekend will attempt to win his fourth-straight U.S. Open title, was only making about half the money in sponsorship revenue as did other marquee players. But considering that the now 26 year old Federer may indeed be one of the greatest players in history (given the...

Anyone for tennis?

Yesterday saw the playing of two very important tennis matches. One of them involved one of the best tennis players I've ever seen, playing against a complete no-hoper from Oxford; the other was between Roger Federer and Tim Henman. The results weren't entirely dissimilar.I have a rough rule of thumb...

James Blake Upsets Federer

It's been a rough couple of years for American men's tennis, but that didn't matter today, as James Blake advanced to the Olympic semifinals after defeating Roger Federer in straight sets.

Save for his early round loss at this week’s Sony Ericsson Open, Novak Djokovic’s goal to supplant Roger Federer at the top seems to be on track. First, he defeated the World No. 1 at the Australian Open, then captured last week’s Masters Series title at Indian Wells. Even in fashio...

The intricate tattoos on Janko Tipsarevic’s back are apparently courtesy of German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer, or so said Ted Robinson during Janko’s 2007 U.S. Open match against Rafael Nadal. Watch the clip (from USA’s Open coverage) here. RELATED POSTS >> tattoo watch: janko...

The 10 Most Famous Athletes in the World

In Bill Simmons NBA Trade Value Column last week, he tries to come up with a list of the 10 most famous athletes in the world:"Quick question though: Yao is one of the 10 most famous athletes in the world, right? So what would the top 10 look like? I had a great argument about this with someone recently and we honestly couldn't figure it out -- definitely Yao and Tiger,...
