"Boo hoo." That was Maria Sharapova's response when she was asked if she was worried about losing the No. 1 ranking as a consequence of her loss to Dinara Safina. Masha may not care she'll slip in the rankings, but Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic, or Svetlana Kuznetsova are probably thrilled to know they each have a chance to ascend to the top of the rankings next week. I'd love to see a Kuznetsova vs. Ivanovic final, for the French Open glory AND No. 1 ranking. Sveta needs another major desperately, and Ana needs a breakthrough win. Becoming No. 1 would be gravy. And well deserved.
