Nobody said it was going to be easy, and Andy Murray learned that the hard way as he defeated Novak Djokovic in a grueling 5-set match to win his first major title. Murray is just coming off a gold medal performance in the 2012 Olympics, but he was still lacking that elusive first grand slam title coming into the U.S. Open. He looked great in opening rounds, but his 5 hour match against #2 Djokovic was definitely his toughest test thus far. Murray had Djokovic on his heels through the first two sets, but it looked like things were slipping away from him in the 3rd. Novak won the 3rd and 4th to force a final set, but Murray composed himself and won the 5th set 6-2. For a long time Murray has been ranked #4 and has been on the outside looking in on the big 3 (Federer, Nadal, Djokovic). But with the impressive year he’s been having, he might finally join the big boys.
