Seeded players Francesca Schiavone, Kim Clijsters, Gilles Simon and Alexandr Dolgopolov have advanced on day five of the Brisbane International. No.2 seed Andrea Petkovic was upset by Kaia Kanepi 6-1 7-6(7).
Clijsters stopped Samantha Stosur conqueror Iveta Benesova 6-3, 6-3 to gain the Brisbane semifinals on Thursday.
“I’m very satisfied with the way that I played,” said Clijsters “In my previous match I lost my focus a bit. I was really focused on not letting that happen today.”
Third seed Schiavone fought back from match points in the second set and a break down in the third set to halt Jelena Jankovic’s hopes in a three-hour struggle to triumph 5-7, 7-6 (2), 6-3.
Second seed Andrea Petkovic was ousted by Kaia Kanepi 6-1, 7-6(7).
