Novak Djokovic's epic five-set win over Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open has been hailed by many observers as the greatest tennis match of all-time. Barry Flatman, tennis correspondent for the Sunday Times summed it up perfectly when he wrote: "Game, set, match Djokovic and that was the greatest tennis victory of all time. Will any of us ever see a match like that again?" However, it's not a vew shared by Sport360°'s tennis aficionado, Reem Abulleil. Indeed, it doesn't even make her top two of the modern day gladatorial battles. Controversial, we hear you cry. But before scurrying to the comments section to declare all out war, why not check out Reem's top five first. 1. Rafael Nadal v Roger Federer Wimbledon Final - 2008 6-4, 6-4, 6-7(5/7), 6-7(8/10), 9-7 The exquisite shot-making, the 65-match winning streak Federer had on grass, the rain delays, the darkness, Nadal's imminent rise to No1. These were just some of the many factors that contributed to making this final the greatest tennis match ever to be contested. 2. Marat Safin v Roger Federer Australian Open Semi-final - 2005 5-7, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(8/6), 9-7 The quality of tennis in that match was said to be the best anyone has ever seen since the Borg-McEnroe 1980 Wimbledon final. The temperamental Safin showed why he is one of the most talented players to ever play the game as he matched Federer's class and briefly interrupted the Swiss' stronghold on Grand Slams. 3. Novak Djokovic v Rafael Nadal Australian Open Final 2012 - 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7(5/7), 7-5 Djokovic said the magnitude of what he's done has not sunk in yet, and it probably hasn't been fully grasped by everyone who's had the pleasure to watch the match - all six hours of it. While the first two sets were plagued by uncharacteristic errors from both players, the following three are what legends are made of. From Nadal's comeback in the fourth set to Djokovic's forehand winner on match point, this final will never be forgotten. 4. Goran Ivanisevic v Pat Rafter Wimbledon Final 2001 - 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 2-6, 9-7 Labelled the 'People's Match' this final was Goran's fourth attempt to win Wimbledon. The charismatic Croat was facing the equally popular Australian on a Monday for the first time in Wimbledon history. It was also the first time a wildcard had won the title at the All England Club - where footballstyle chants erupted from the usually traditional crowd. 5. Roger Federer v Novak Djokovic Roland Garros Semi-final 2011 - 7-6(7/5), 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(7/5) Djokovic was on a 41-match winning streak and was gunning for John McEnroe's record 42 straight wins to open a season. The Serb had been in fierce form after capturing seven straight titles since the start of 2011, and everyone was wondering when that run was going to end. Federer came up with the answer in a sublime display of tennis that reminded us of how he won 16 Majors, and how he could easily win more if he wanted to.
