Australia won both opening singles Saturday to take a 2-0 lead over an inexperienced Russia team after the first day of their Fed Cup series.
Casey Dellacqua beat Russia's Irina Khromacheva 6-0, 6-2 in the opening singles and Sam Stosur beat Veronika Kudermetova 6-4, 6-0 as Australia chased its first Fed Cup win over Russia since 1983.
Dellacqua took just 58 minutes to beat her 18-year-old opponent, hitting 19 forehand winners. Khromacheva did save three set points in the first set and closed from 3-0 to 3-2 with a service break in the second set.
The 16-year-old Kudermetova troubled Stosur with her powerful serve in the first set but lost her way and had 40 unforced errors in a match that lasted 56 minutes.
