It is already pretty well-known that Federer has said that he wants to get back his World #1 ranking. He is still just 1 week shy of Pete Sampras’s all-time record of 286 weeks at World #1. We even looked at what Federer would need to do to get that ranking. But still, very few people, even among the most die-hard Federer fans, have actually thought it likely that he could get back on top. After all, Djokovic and Nadal just seem too dominant at the moment. And that could very well be the problem for Federer. However, what has (quite surprisingly, honestly) slipped by most people is just how well Federer has been playing for quite a while now. He has lost precisely three matches since (and including) last year’s US Open.
