Martin Klizan of Slovakia rallied to beat Italian lucky-loser Matteo Viola 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-1 on Tuesday in the first round of the Zagreb Indoors.
Seventh seed, Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov fell to the hard-serving Ivo Karlovic of Croatia 7-6(3), 7-6(3). The Croat knocked 18 aces past his opponent.
“This is the best I have seen Karlovic play lately,” Dimitrov said. “It’s difficult when he serves so well.”
