Nadal wins exhibition match against Ruud in Colombia
AGIF

Rafael Nadal has won his latest exhibition match against Norway's Casper Ruud in the Colombian capital, Bogota, as part of the pair's ongoing series of exhibition matches in South America.

The Spaniard had been dominant in this friendly series until a few days prior to their meeting in Colombia, with Ruud finally getting his first ever win over the 22-time Grand Slam champion in Quito, Ecuador.

However, Nadal ensured normal service was resumed for their latest encounter, outplaying the young Norwegian to win out 7-5, 6-4.

There has been some criticism of Nadal for opting not to represent his country at the Davis Cup Finals - being held in Spain - as he instead chose to fly out to South America for a series of exhibition matches.

Some have pointed out that the off-season was a crucial opportunity for rest and rehabilitation after a gruelling season. Or, if opting to play, then staying in Spain to compete in the Davis Cup may have been the better option.

Nonetheless, it looks as though Rafa is moving as well as ever, which will come as very welcome news to fans of the 14-time Roland Garros champion. It could also be argued that match practise in the off-season, but away from the tension and physical rigours of high-stakes competitive action, is the perfect preparation for the season ahead.

Whatever the case, if social media videos of the pair's time in South America are to be believed, both Ruud and Nadal are enjoying their time out there, with their matches attracting large crowds.

Once this series is finished, they will head back home for some rest before turning their attention to the new season ahead, which is already only just around the corner.

It should be an exciting season for both the young Norwegian and the veteran Spaniard.
