In what ended up being a never-ending “Are we there yet?” type exchange with the chair umpire, Viktor Troicki delivered one of the better rants of 2013.
During a match against Ernests Gulbis in the Rome Open earlier this week, Troicki hit a backhand that appeared to nip some of the baseline. The shot was ruled “in” by the line judge, but then overturned by the chair umpire, Cedric Mourier.
Troicki yells at Mourier, saying “You know you’re wrong!” and “You don’t want to correct yourself.” Mourier left his throne to show Troicki the spot on the clay court that he thought was created by the shot – which is actually a commended move on Mourier’s part. However, it still looked like he was wrong.
The unabashed Troicki then brought a member of the camera crew out for an overhead shot of the mark on the court. And as The Post Game points out, it certainly appears that Troicki earned the point along with an inclusion on the “Best Sports Rants” lists that have yet to be written.
