#488465583 / gettyimages.com   (May 6, 2014) Twenty-year-old Dominic Thiem had the biggest win of his pro tennis career on Tuesday night when he defeated Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the second round at the Madrid Masters. For the qualifier it was his first top 10 win. Wawrinka was last year’s losing finalists in Madrid.   “I didn’t have many matches against these top guys, so I wasn’t really used to his pace. He had an unbelievable start and I didn’t really know what happened,” the  Thiem said. “I started to get used to more and more his pace and angles and his game. I played unbelievable the second and the third set.”   Roger Federer withdrew from Madrid earlier on Tuesday due to his wife Mirka giving birth to twin boys – Lenny and Leo. Novak Djokovic pulled out of Madrid due to an injured right wrist on Monday. This leaves No. 1 Rafael Nadal as the only top-5 player left in the draw.   On the ladies side, Maria Shrapova survived a test from American Christina McHale. The Russian won the last 5 games of the match to close it out 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.   ATP Singles – Second Round [Q] D Thiem (AUT) d [3] S Wawrinka (SUI) 16 62 64 [5] D Ferrer (ESP) d [WC] A Ramos (ESP) 76(6) 57 63 [8] M Raonic (CAN) d J Chardy (FRA) 63 63 [10] K Nishikori (JPN) d [WC] G Garcia-Lopez (ESP) 63 61 R Bautista Agut (ESP) d F Verdasco (ESP) 26 76(4) 61 ATP Singles – First Round A Dolgopolov (UKR) d [13] F Fognini (ITA) 75 46 63 [Q] I Sijsling (NED) d [14] T Haas (GER) 36 61 64 J Monaco (ARG) d [PR] J Melzer (AUT) 64 63 K Anderson (RSA) d R Stepanek (CZE) 36 63 64 N Almagro (ESP) d [Q] A Golubev (KAZ) 63 67(9) 76(4) E Gulbis (LAT) d J Janowicz (POL) 76(5) 36 62 M Cilic (CRO) d J Sousa (POR) 61 61 Men’s Doubles – Second Round [2] A Peya (AUT) / B Soares (BRA) d T Huey (PHI) / D Inglot (GBR) 67(2) 61 10-8 J Cabal (COL) / R Farah (COL) d [3] I Dodig (CRO) / M Melo (BRA) 64 62 Men’s Doubles – First Round T Berdych (CZE) / J Isner (USA) d [WC] J Erlich (ISR) / L Rosol (CZE) 63 64 M Granollers (ESP) / M Lopez (ESP) d [WC] F Lopez (ESP) / J Monaco (ARG) 67(6) 63 12-10 SCHEDULE – WEDNESDAY, 7 MAY 2014 MANOLO SANTANA start 11:00 am WTA – [4] S Halep (ROU) vs [WC] L Arruabarrena (ESP) WTA – [1] S Williams (USA) vs S Peng (CHN) Not Before 3:15 pm ATP – [1] R Nadal (ESP) vs J Monaco (ARG) ATP – [15] M Youzhny (RUS) vs F Lopez (ESP) Not Before 8:00 pm ATP – N Almagro (ESP) vs [7] A Murray (GBR) Not Before 9:30 pm WTA – A Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) vs [6] J Jankovic (SRB) ARANTXA SANCHEZ VICARIO start 11:00 am ATP – K Anderson (RSA) vs [6] T Berdych (CZE) ATP – A Dolgopolov (UKR) vs E Gulbis (LAT) Not Before 3:00 pm WTA – [13] C Wozniacki (DEN) vs R Vinci (ITA) WTA – S Kuznetsova (RUS) vs [3] A Radwanska (POL) ATP – [11] J Tsonga (FRA) vs [Q] S Giraldo (COL) STADIUM 3 start 11:00 am ATP – [LL] L Kubot (POL) vs G Simon (FRA) ATP – [LL] M Matosevic (AUS) vs [9] J Isner (USA) ATP – [12] G Dimitrov (BUL) vs [WC] M Copil (ROU) ATP – M Cilic (CRO) vs [Q] P Mathieu (FRA) Not Before 7:00 pm WTA – [WC] I Begu (ROU) vs [15] S Lisicki (GER) PISTA 4 start 11:00 am WTA – [Q] C Garcia (FRA) vs M Kirilenko (RUS) WTA – H Chan (TPE) / C Scheepers (RSA) vs [5] C Black (ZIM) / S Mirza (IND) Not Before 2:00 pm WTA – A Riske (USA) vs [14] C Suarez Navarro (ESP) ATP – [4] D Marrero (ESP) / F Verdasco (ESP) vs T Berdych (CZE) / J Isner (USA) WTA – After Suitable Rest – [4] K Peschke (CZE) / K Srebotnik (SLO) vs [WC] G Muguruza (ESP) / C Suarez Navarro (ESP) PISTA 5 start 11:00 am ATP – M Fyrstenberg (POL) / M Matkowski (POL) vs J Murray (GBR) / J Peers (AUS) ATP – J Rojer (NED) / H Tecau (ROU) vs F Fognini (ITA) / S Gonzalez (MEX) ATP – J Nieminen (FIN) vs [Q] I Sijsling (NED) ATP – [5] M Llodra (FRA) / N Mahut (FRA) vs [PR] K Anderson (RSA) / J Melzer (AUT) PISTA 6 start 11:00 am WTA – K Koukalova (CZE) / M Niculescu (ROU) vs [6] R Kops-Jones (USA) / A Spears (USA) Not Before 1:00 pm ATP – E Butorac (USA) / R Klaasen (RSA) vs M Raonic (CAN) / A Seppi (ITA) Not Before 3:00 pm WTA – TBA – [1] S Hsieh (TPE) / S Peng (CHN) vs [WC] F Schiavone (ITA) / S Soler-Espinosa (ESP) Not Before 6:00 pm WTA – TBA – S Kuznetsova (RUS) / S Stosur (AUS) vs [2] S Errani (ITA) / R Vinci (ITA) PISTA 7 start 5:00 pm ATP – [6] D Nestor (CAN) / N Zimonjic (SRB) vs M Granollers (ESP) / M Lopez (ESP)
