VOODOO AND THE USA TRACK & FIELD OLYMPIC TEAM

Voodoo??? USA Olympic Track and field team!

Ms. Lauryn Williams, suggested " Somebody, Somewhere out here has a Voodoo doll of the United states"; She has humor through her pain! But hell, she's right! And people keep texting me, asking me what's going on. I don't know, hell, I'm sitting on the couch watching it just like you- I didn't make it! HA. Though her comment was probably one of the funniest quotes ever, her pain and the situation were anything but.

We've had some great moments, Dawn did win the hurdles, and the title stays with the US. The boys swept the 400m, Allyson got the silver, and the Davids got 2nd & 3rd in the 110 hurdles, 400h boys swept. Sure things didn't go as "expected", but it's the Olympics and though it is thought to be the "worst" Olympics for Track and field. . . Its funny- not really, how one now looks at a silver or bronze medal as failure. How can one expect something from someone else and question when it doesn't happen? Sure athletes have high expectations, but I always found it troubling when the "higher ups", place a number on how many medals THEY expect US to bring home, deem it a failure if we miss that target yet offer little support in assisting athletes to achieve that goal, all the while exploiting these athletes to the fullest!

Accident's happen (LOLO) who handled her pain gracefully things sometimes don't happen the way you'd like (me breaking my ankle and leg last year jumping in Brazil, sitting my butt on the couch and not in Beijing jumping). Sometimes though our hearts and minds say we are ready, knowing that physically some injury is preventing us from performing as well as we know we are capable of, yet refusing to make excuses and place blame (Allyson, Tyson, & Bashir). Many are overjoyed at winning the bronze (David Oliver, David Nevile), while others are absolutely disgusted. Surprises happen (Dawn Harper). But it's about what you learn from this experience, each performance, win or "lose", there is a lesson to be learned, a message to be delivered, and FUN TO BE HAD! The athletes competing are not the only recipients of that message: Those who could have been there but didn't make the team because it wasn't their time, non athletes who are inspired by performance or the stories and lives of these athletes be it good or "bad", can inspire you to reach your goal and overcome obstacles. We are not always here to just WIN, there are bigger and more important reasons, which is to inspire!!!

So, as this Olympics come to an end, learn your lesson, be inspired and trust that 2012 will be the track and field "redeem" team! We now have so much to prove, so I encourage you all to support us from here on out, and NOT just Olympic year, and see this beautiful transformation.

P.s. We still won the Olympic count, USA track and Field has won more medals than any other country!

A lesson I hope my GOD DAUGHTER learns by watching the olympics and observing the athletes behaviors: everyday I race her up the stairs to her room, or to take her a bath, most of the time a let her win! today i blasted her up the stairs HEHE! and sat down on the floor, and she came to me crying, hugging me, like she just got a whoopin' or something!LMAO. both her mother and I explained that she is not always going to win and thats OK, her behavior was unacceptable, and vowed to from here on out make her earn her win. only thing she can beat me at is that game Memory, and she has the nerve to try to help me win saying "kiki mom, thats not it, its there". So I finally tied her last week and I rubbed it in, being a sore winner (dancing and celebrating cause i beat a 3 year old in memory), she laughed, then replied "kiki mom, thats not good of you". My nieces and nephews, I never let them beat me in anything, and its a great lesson, you gotta earn it, its so much more enjoyable, you have to understand loss to truly enjoy a win. sometimes you have to struggle!
